S. T. Hillard, Pastor | Obituary | With Love... El’Ray Wiseman, Jr. To my “One” Son was born on April 28, 1954, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was the third child of the union of Mary Wilson Wiseman of Huntsville, Texas and the late El’Ray Wiseman, Sr., of San Augustine, Texas. This is your report card...for Heaven’s Sake. You have been a good, obedient, honorable son. You kept your committment to your dad’s last request to you at the age of four when he was leaving to check on his mother. You got your nursery school bag and stood by his side and said, “I did my job. The bathroom is clean. Can I go with you?” Your dad replied, “No, Little Man. Stay here and take care of your mother. You obeyed and did not cry. You did the best you could for me. Today, I release you to our Father God. Thank you for a job well done my Son! I will see you Resurrection Morning. El’Ray expressed faith in Christ at an early age and united with Second Cavalcade Baptist Church where he was a member of the Faith Chorus youth choir. El’Ray was a master coronet player and--with his sister, Lynda Joy, on flute--was a member of the world-famous Kashmere Stage Band, for 6 years under the tutelage of “Prof” Conrad Johnson. He served as captain of the band from 1969-1971 and was named best highs school trumpeter in America for two years in a row. -Bradley Wiseman Dad, I know that you've moved on. The spirit is still here though the body is gone. Please watch over me with tender loving care There’s so much more I wish we could’ve shared. Remnants of your love will fuel my soul My faith is entrenched in the one I behold. Though I miss you, I know you are seeing a brighter day. When I think of it, you haven’t really gone away. Peacefully sitting at the Father’s hand Who spreads bliss all through the land. The pain is gone; doubt no more. Just wait to see what the Lord has in store. -Mary Helen Wiseman, M.Ed. * * * -Joy Wiseman My Dad El’Ray loved his family and was a devoted father who continued to guide and protect his beloved mother, four children and six grandchildren until called to eternity on Sunday, August 16, 2009, while vacationing in Salt Lake City Utah. He was preceded in death by his father, El’Ray Wiseman, Sr. and beloved sister, Lynda Joy Wiseman-Barnes. He leaves to grieve, his mother, Mary Helen Wilson Wiseman; sister, Kijana Wiseman-Fusilier (Aundra); four children: LaTanya Brooks-Samuels (DeAndre), El’Ray Darian Wiseman (Rose), Bradley Elliot Wiseman and Joy Delaine Wiseman; six grandchildren: Nathaniel LeDarian Parker, Cristopher Levy, Cameron Samuels, Kierra Wiseman, Ni’tashia Wiseman and Pearl Wiseman; one nephew, Andre Eugene Barnes; an ex-wife, Faren Sims Thomas; special friends Sandra Brooks and Tracy Ann Richard; and a host of other relatives and friends. God called him on the phone, many many times, but my dad wouldn’t answer. This time, though, he didn’t put Him on hold --didn’t send it to voicemail-he simply answered the phone and said “I’m coming home. I know you are playing a hot celestial trumpet now --rediscovering the funky soulful music your illness forced you to bottle inside all these years...BTW, give a shout-out to Lynda, Prof, Rufus, Bob, Rilla, Drayton, Terra, Daddy--& everyone else!-- for me! When I lose hope, You give me strength. When I feel that I have failed, It is you that remind me Of just how special l am. You see into my soul when all others can’t understand me. Fathers are special in that way. You are not only my father. You are my rock, safe haven and protector. For this reason, the two of us Will always share a bond of love, trust And admiration. I admire you for who you are to me. Confidant, dad and friend. -Kijana Wiseman-Fusilier, M.Ed. -LaTanya Brooks Samuels, M.Ed. | There are so many stories and so much that I could say. I just want to say that I love you and I am going to miss you. El’Ray with the 1971 Kashmere Stage Band -El’Ray Darian Wiseman |
