Copley’s Campaign for
the New Surgical Center
Dear
Friends &
Neighbors
I am chairing this campaign for a
very personal reason: the care my
family has received. I think we’re
really fortunate to have this outstanding level of care delivered
in a warm, friendly manner – and
so close to home. It’s important
we help Copley keep up to speed
with technology, with facilities
that meet present-day standards.
That’s why I encourage you to join
me in supporting this campaign.
Elaine Nichols
Patient, Trustee, Campaign Committee Chair
Stowe
Copley Hospital is one of our region’s
treasures: a close-to-home medical center
that delivers warm, personal care and has been
recognized nationally as a HealthStrong hospital.
The surgical facilities are its working heart –
and Copley’s operating rooms were last updated
in 1979. Our superb surgical team delivers
top-quality outcomes, but they’re coping with
severely cramped spaces not suited for today’s
complex, technology-assisted procedures.
We’re asking you to join us in supporting
Critical Caring: Copley’s Campaign for the New
Surgical Center. Our contributions will enable
Copley to make every patient’s path through
care as comfortable and seamless as it can be,
with facilities designed for workflow efficiency
and the best in community medicine.
With the new Surgical Center, we can ensure
that Copley continues to provide the highestquality care to meet the needs of our community,
with an even better experience for patients and
families. I think it’s a win-win all around.
Let’s step up together! Copley’s future is our
future – and your gift will help make the new
Surgical Center a reality.

Patient, Trustee, Campaign Committee Member

Tomorrow’s
Health
Care
Tomorrow’s health care –
with traditional cost-effectiveness
The new Surgical Center will provide our
patients and our clinicians with a facility
that promotes optimal outcomes and smooth
efficiency. We’ve worked carefully to combine
quality of care with Copley’s tradition of
strong financial stewardship.

Lanny and I had never donated
to a hospital before, but a local
hospital is a critical resource to the
community. I recently spent eight
days as a patient at Copley – and I
learned first-hand that the doctors,
nurses, and staff care about their
patients, listen to our needs, and
do their very best to hasten our
recovery. Copley is a small hospital
that allows a very personal service.
Their positive, caring attitude
was vital to my recovery. We are
fortunate to have Copley Hospital
in our community, and we are
delighted to support it.
Henry King, Princeton, NJ and Greensboro, VT
The Best
Patient
Experience
The design of Copley’s new Surgical Center
will make every patient’s path toward
optimum healing as easy and supportive
as the experience can be.
Copley’s new Surgical Center will be built
off of the main entrance, tucked in between
the main lobby and the Rehabilitation
Services building, and connecting to the
back of Outpatient Services.

Ways

We are patient-centered. We treat
people like family, and when you
come here, you’re going to get
cutting-edge care in a personal
environment. I’m contributing to
the campaign because there is no
project more important to this
hospital and this community than
a high-quality Surgical Center.

They understand that the person
who happens to be the patient is
not the only family member being
impacted by whatever is happening.
That makes a difference in recovery...
I’m doing my part to ensure that our
community hospital will be here not
only for my golden years, but for
future generations.

In Loving
Memory
Announcing the
James and Mary Louise Carpenter
Surgical Center at Copley Hospital
We are proud to honor The Reverend Dr. James
Anderson Carpenter (1928-2013) and his wife,
Dr. Mary Louise Dunbar Carpenter (1928-2005),
by naming Copley’s new Surgical Center for
them. This commemorates their lives and their
love for our community.
The Carpenters became summer residents of
Greensboro in the mid-1960s with a camp on
Randolph Road. Many fondly remember Sunday
morning church services on Jim and Mary
Lou’s porch. Their extended family maintains
ties to Greensboro to this day.
Jim was an Episcopal priest and professor of
theology at General Theological Seminary in
New York City, where he founded and directed
The Center for Jewish-Christian Studies
and Relations. Mary Louise was a research
psychologist at the Bronx (NY) Psychiatric
Center and the Nathan S. Kline Institute for
Psychiatric Research in Orangeburg, NY.
The Board, Staff, and patients of Copley are
deeply grateful to the donors who have made
this transformative gift in loving memory of
the Carpenters.

This is a no-brainer. This is very
important – not only to our
community, but to me and you,
too. We need a new Surgical
Center at this hospital.

Gifts to Copley’s Campaign for the New Surgical
Center are tax deductible to the fullest extent of
the law.
Thank you for your generosity in supporting
Copley’s Campaign for the New Surgical Center.
As a physician who walks the hallways
of Copley Hospital, I see the plaques
recognizing prior donors. They
remind me that a lot of people are
involved in our institution’s success –
not just the clinical teams and
our dedicated staff, but also the
wonderful people who back Copley
financially. Working together, we
can continue providing the best
care locally, in a facility that meets
the best standards of care. We really
can change people’s lives.
