Vol. 7, No. 3 – SUMMER/FALL 2014 HEY DAY 2014 Hey Day was another resounding success, thanks to business donations, donations of goods for sale and of course, the buyers, volunteers and supporters of Hey Day. Four generations working HEY DAY! Elsie Larone has worked Hey Day since 1968, her daughters Jean Koopman, Heather Pitt; Granddaughter Kimberly Cote and Great Granddaughter Reese Cote carry on the tradition…. Young volunteers – Katelyn McGahey & Arden Leahy volunteered AND shopped! The Acton’s Corners ladies manning the linen table distinguished themselves with their lovely headwear! Ferne Richardson presented a cheque for $2,888.35 to Jillian Johnston, winner of Hey Day’s 50/50 Draw KDH Auxiliary News APPLY NOW TO VOLUNTEER AT KDH We welcome new volunteers to help with patients (ER, in-patients, long term care), in pastoral care, at the information kiosks, in the gift shop, or in other KDHA activities. 2014-2016 Executive At the KDH Auxiliary’s AGM in June, executive members were elected for a two year term. To apply, please submit your application, and you’ll be contacted to let you know when the next orientation session will be held. Application forms are available at the Gift Shop on the lower level of KDH, or from the hospital’s HR department. Pastoral Care We are looking for new members for our team here at KDH. In particular, we need persons who would be interested in visiting patients once per week. Our work is essentially a ministry of presence to the patients. There is a 10 week basic course (3 hours/week) being offered in the Spring for prospective candidates. TRIBUTE FUND Make a tax-deductible donation to the Auxiliary to honour the memory of a loved one, or to celebrate a special occasion. All Tribute Fund donations are used for the direct benefit of patient care at KDH. Send your donation, marked “Tribute Fund” and with the name of the honouree, to the KDH Auxiliary—see address below. KDH AUXILLARY walks to support Mammography! th For the 5 year in a row, on October 4 a KDH team joined other teams in this year’s Kemptville Walks for Mammography. KDHA has fulfilled their goal to raise $100,000 towards the Mammography machine at KDH. All funds raised continue to support outstanding debt on the machine. Elaine Martin works to stock the gift shop with lovely items for all tastes, genders and budget! CHECK IT OUT!!! SECOND HAND ROSE Where Volunteers are needed at KDH Now that KDH has a full OR Program and numerous outpatient clinics up and running, as well as its in-patient beds, convalescent care beds and 4 interim Long Term Care beds, why not consider volunteering or encouraging a friend or relative to join the many volunteers already at KDH. Volunteers are needed at The Kiosk at the main entrance to direct patients and visitors At the Gift Shop/Coffee Bar On the patient ward delivering water and visiting with patients. Volunteers are also need on Saturday and Sunday to assist with meals. If you are interested, please call Stephanie Redmond, Volunteer Coordinator at 613-258-6133 EX 164 The “Second Hand Rose” section in the KDH Gift shop offers a range of gently-used (and still-beautiful) jewelry, china, cookbooks, collector items and other items at terrific bargain prices. Betty Beach, Second Hand Rose co-coordinator, encourages area residents to donate jewelry, ornaments, dishes, and other small treasures that they are no longer using. “These items can bring pleasure to a new owner, and can benefit the hospital too.” To donate items for Second Had Rose, please call Betty at 613-258-4454 or bring the items to the gift shop during open hours (every weekday from 9 am - 5:30 pm.) 2014 Bursary Recipients Kate Kendall (left) from North Grenville District High School will be studying Nursing at Trent University. Grace Scully (right) from St. Michael’s Catholic High School will be studying Science at the University of Ottawa. Marlene cherished her time as a volunteer in the Gift Shop, enjoying her contact with other auxiliary members and members of the community. Marlene was Team Leader in the Shoes, Hats and Purses table at Hey Day for many years. Marlene received a Certificate of Appreciation in 2010. She will be missed CALENDAR Auxiliary Meetings:NEW! 7 pm, 3rd Monday of every second month in KDH Board Room -September, November, January, March, May - Annual General meeting in June FREE SUBSCRIPTION . Faith Nelms died on June 14, 2014 at the age of 87. Faith was an active member of the Acton’s Corner’s group and a very willing worker at the Linen Table at Hey Day. Faith received a Certificate of Appreciation in 2011. She will be missed Ethel Moffitt died peacefully at Bayfield Manor Nursing Home on August 31, 2014. Ethel was active in the Acton’s Corner’s group, selling tickets, attending meetings and volunteering at Hey Day until she was unable to do so. Ethel received an Outstanding Service Pin in 1997 and her Provincial Life Membership in 1998. She will be missed.
