“We are a diverse and welcoming group of Airstream owners who
enjoy camping and sharing adventures.”
!
It’s true.....time flies when you’re having fun!!! Hard to believe that it’s already June and that
we’ve had three awesome rallies since our last newsletter - Mary Kay & Jim, Rob & Diane, Becki
& Marcus and Devon & Rebecca.....you guys ROCKED as first time hosts for the Birthday &
Beach Baby Rallies and, gauging from the Facebook pictures, the Bluegrass Rally was great fun
as well.
We’ve had campgrounds post welcome
signs for our arrival, local newspapers
stop by to gather info for an article and
a magazine spend the day
photographing our lovely Airstreams
and their owners for a feature story. At
every step, you humble me with how
seamlessly each and every one of
become Ambassadors for the
Airstream lifestyle and the Oregon Unit.
Yo u g r a c i o u s l y w e l c o m e n e w
members, or those who’ve heard about
our group and stop by to check us out,
with open arms and open doors...inviting those guests into your Airstreams for an opportunity to
get to know each other, sharing memories of caravans or your favorite campground.
I’m preparing to head out to Huron, SD to attend the International Rally and proudly represent
the Oregon Unit, along with the Golden’s, the Rabe’s and the Taylor’s. Teresa and I have been
asked to present our Membership Growth Strategies seminar once again...this time on the Big
Stage a few hours before Airstream Inc. I’ll serve as the delegate for the 150 members of the
Oregon Unit, will submit our Newsletter and Membership Directory in the Unit Publications
Contest and am thrilled to announce that on July 5th I’ll become the Region 10 2nd Vice
President.
So yes....time does fly when you’re having fun. I’ll continue in my role as President of our group
until the Champoeg Rally, at which time I’ll represent Region 10 during the Installation Ceremony
of your new President and 1st & 2nd Vice Presidents (Patricia Scoggins, Terri Warren, and Dave
Pass, respectively). I’m confident they will do a fantastic job in these roles and look forward to
seeing the next generation of leadership begin to step forward.
Can’t wait to see my Airstream friends and family. Safe travels - Mona

Region 10 Newsletter
Interested in what’s going on in our entire region? You can read and/or download the Region
10 newsletter at this website:
www.wbcci10.org
Who knew we were all stars?
If you’ve been a member of the Airstream group for five years, you’ll get a star for your trailer
at the Champoeg rally. Does this mean you get two stars if you’ve been a member for 10
years? Should be fun to see who’s been around the longest. Just one more reason to sign
up for the Champoeg rally. Contact the Starbirds at starbirdfarm@helvetia.us
December Board Meeting
December 8, 2012
Board Meeting was called to order by President Mona Heath.
In attendance: Ray Putnam , Teresa Taylor, Rebecca Sigleer, David Pass, Lisa Rogers
(treasurer), Patricia Scoggins (first Vice President), Terri Warren (second vice president), &
Judy Rogers(secretary/recorder).
The minutes of the last meeting were approved.
Discussion on Mission Statement. It was decided that we would like a mission statement for
our group and the following would be our mission statement:
”Our unit is a diverse welcoming group of Airstream owners who enjoy camping and
sharing adventures”
This was approved. It will appear on each newsletter and other publications of the unit.
Mona mentioned a membership growth plan. She wants board members to co-host a rally this
year. Community involvement in a rally was discussed. Caravanning was brought up but it
needs to have board approval to qualify for insurance. Those interested in coordinating a
caravan should talk to Mona re: qualifying for WBCCI insurance.
Rebecca Sigleer agreed be our media consultant, with the thanks of the board.
It is proposed and agreed to have an article on hosting a rally in the newsletter. Volunteers are
welcome for this project
Terri will check into having Paypal for payment for rallies and membership fees. We will try to
start using the PayPal for membership payments this fall if this can be arranged.
Lisa reported that we have $19,767 in our account as of 9/30/2012. It was mentioned that we
now have two accounts, one for membership and one for rallies. It was decided to delete
Teresa from the account and add Mona. Lisa and Susan will remain on the account.
We approved the Treasurer’s report.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted
Judy Rogers
Birthday Rally
April 19th – 21st
River Bend Resort, Harrisburg Oregon.
Confessions of a First Time Rally Host
I’ll say it right up front – I bought too much food. But I didn’t know I was buying too much at the
time. I was so worried about not having enough food that I went overboard…. Perhaps……. A
little.
The “bag of salad” said 16 servings per bag – why did we only go through 32 servings? Maybe
because a serving size is 2 cups. Who eats two cups of salad when served with bread and
soup and after a food-filled happy hour?
Who knew that 61 people would consume only two gallons of ice cream when paired with rich
chocolate cake at the end of a sumptuous pot luck and a yet another food filled happy hour?
No one ate the whole wheat bread at breakfast. And why should they when it’s sitting next to
Dave’s Killer Bread? What was I thinking?
In addition to the above items, I learned other important things at the Birthday Rally, in no
particular order –

Query experienced rally hosts on serving sizes and quantities consumed in previous
rallies. They have the knowledge that will help you make good choices. Or better yet
pair up with one of them and co-host a rally. It was a great decision for us to host with
Diane and Rob Nicol.
Buy more bananas for breakfast, one large bunch per day just wasn’t enough.
Everyone wants you to succeed. All you have to do is reach out a hand and someone will
be there to grab it. And most times you don’t even need to ask - the volunteers will just
step up and pitch in.
No one likes grape jelly on their toast as much as I do.
I have a much better appreciation of how much work goes into a rally and I have great
respect for those folks who host a rally every year or every other year or twice a year.
Check on the alcohol consumption policies before you book the sites.
And possibly the most important thing I learned - Hosting is fun. You might not get to do
as much visiting or relaxing as you would as just an attendee but the joy I experienced
watching new and old friends mixing and mingling, sitting and standing, walking and
talking, laughing and eating is beyond words.
Next time we host I’m going to try and overcome my compulsion to buy “just a little extra”. My
plan will be to stick to standard serving sizes on breakfast and half sizes on dinner. And yes I
do believe there will be a next time to host.

Beach Baby Rally was the Bomb!
Sounds like everyone had a blast at the beach baby rally that we hosted in May. We could not
have asked for a better weekend for the weather Gods to come through for us. Perfect
weekend of sun, sand, great food, adult beverages, aluminum, and rivets. The park managers
at Sea and Sand RV were great to work with, and we were very excited to see so many
Airstreams in a same location. They even called the local newspaper, the Newport Times, and
had them come out and take photos and write up an article of all of us Airstreamers together.
A little of how the weekend went: Started off great on Friday with the guys, Devon and
Marcus, helping everyone into their sites. Happy hour in the evening was fun, with an amazing
view of the sunset. We began the morning on Saturday with some french toast and sausage
for breakfast, and then everyone took the day to explore the Oregon coast. The rally host took
baby Burr "Elliot" to the aquarium to enjoy the fish and animals. The evening was top notch,
with a surf and turf dinner, prime rib, albacore tuna, shrimp, and of course the potluck style for
sides and desserts. We topped off the amazing day with a bonfire on the beach, including
some s'mores and again an amazing sunset as the backdrop.
Sunday we had a little continental style breakfast, with some juice and coffee, before the group
packed up and hit the road. Thanks to everyone that came out and spent the amazing
weekend with us and creating some great memories and making some new friends.
Cheers
the Burrs (Marcus, Becki, and Elliot) And the Sigleers (Devon and Rebecca)

Flash Rally Attracts 13 Airstreams at Waterloo
Our officials rallies this year filled or came close to filling rather quickly, and people were still
looking for an opportunity to gather with other Airstreamers. So we added the Flash Rally at
Waterloo County Park in Linn County, between Lebanon and Sweet Home. This lovely park
holds a lot of people in two large loops, right on the river. Campers made their own
reservations at the park, then informed me, Terri Warren, that they were coming and we set up
a potluck plan. We put up two shelters at our site for meals and happy hour on both evenings.
There was even music from Ed Hemmingson and Lynn Pass. New members Roz and John
Hadley and Mike Clausen joined in and we are delighted to have them. And thank you Mike
Clausen for bringing your bulldog Gucci. Tom Griffin and Katy Hurley also brought their
adorable new standard schnauzer puppy Jetta. The vintage trailer rally was happening just up
the road at River Bend park, and many of us wandered up there on Saturday to visit with our
unit members who were displaying their trailers.
This model of last minute rallies that are completely potluck with a host who only does email to
coordinate them really seems to work well. No pressure, no fuss, just Oregon unit members
doing what they do best, gathering, talking, helping, sharing ideas, kicking back. I hope we
will do more of them in the future. If you have a park that you love and it has openings,
anyone can set up a flash rally!

Silver Trailer Event at Oregon Resort in August
There are still sites available at Alumafandango, an Airstream-oriented event held at Seven
Feathers RV Resort in southern Oregon, August 6-11, 2013. Produced with the support of George M Sutton RV, Airstream Life Magazine, and other
sponsors, the Alumafandango program is packed with fun and informative activities: live
entertainment (Antsy McClain, everyone’s favorite Trailer Park Troubadour, will perform in an
intimate setting with guitarist Edgar Cruz), wine tasting, local cultural activities, a backing
competition, daily happy hours (with prizes), open grills and campfires, native American
drummers, movie nights for the kids, an Aluminum Gong Show charity fundraiser, Aqua-Zumba,
and seminars and roundtable discussions on a variety of topics.
The event site in Canyonville Oregon surrounded by Doug firs and piness only 100 miles from
the coast, 115 miles from Crater Lake, and 200 miles from Portland. Your landscaped campsite
at Seven Feathers RV Resort includes full hookups, wifi, heated indoor swimming pool, and
access to the adjacent casino, relaxing River Rock Spa, and nearby Myrtle Creek golf course.
Your goodie bag includes $5 free slot play!
As a generous thank you for coming gift, every paid adult attending Alumafandango 2013 in
Oregon will also get a $100 gift card for purchases of wine from the extensive Naked Wines
online catalog.
All brand of RVs are welcome, so bring your non-Airstream RV-ing friends for five days of fun
and camaraderie. Attending Alumafandango is a great way to get to know our Airstream owner
community, and George M Sutton RV will tantalize them with an indoor display of shiny new
Airstreams.
Reserve your space today! A limited number of sites are available and disappearing fast. Visit
www.alumafandango.com to register, write to info@alumafandango.com, or call 802-877-2900
extension 4.
In support of the WBCCI, Oregon Unit 090 will be present at Alumafandango to spread the word
about the WBCCI and host an information table to recruit new members.

Survey Monkey Results
A couple of months ago, 106 members responded to a request to participate in a survey
requesting that you to tell us what you want from this unit and opinions about various Airstreamrelated issues. What you told us is a gold mine of information. You’ll see the question, then the
percentage that answered the question in a particular way, i.e., yes, no, etc.

Note: the last choice on the above survey question read: Yes, with a rally partner, help
and mentoring
Note: the last choice for this question was: I would not attend a rally without hookups
Note: The possible responses to the above question are:
“I would like the host to be responsible for breakfasts and dinners so I don’t have to cook”
“I like the host to do most of the meals but I”m OK with a potluck dinner at the rally”
“I’m good with half host providing food and half potluck”
“I’m good with a total potluck rally, just getting together is the fun for me:
Note: the last possible response to the above question reads:
“honestly, I just do the cocktail hour ;-)
Haven’t gotten them yet
Don’t want to put anything permanent on the trailer
It’s been too cold to put them on
Don’t want to broadcast that we are away from home
Can’t find where I stored them
Seems hard to put them on perfectly
They are big and gaudy. Only Airstreamers understand why they are on the trailer.
We sold the trailer that had the numbers and never got new ones for the new
trailer.
Not sure I want them on there
Laziness and don’t care
Won’t put them on but will make a way to display it outside for rallies.
Hate to muck up the outside with stickons.
My husband won’t let me because he is worried about damaging the skin
Not that important and I don’t like the red numbers
The fell off. I’ll be pursuing a rally only solution
Prefer to display numbers on a removable device
Plan to eventually
Not ready to mar it up - might want something bigger
Don’t understand the advantage of posting the numbers - have them on plexiglass
They are a little ugly and mess up the surface
Like my trailer the way it looks - don’t want huge red numbers on it.

Looking ahead to next year
It’s hard to believe, but we are already starting to plan for the rallies for 2014. The good
news is that we have terrific new members in our unit who are creative, innovative, active
and interested. The other good news is that we have established members who bring
knowledge and experience about our club and also how to run a rally. Mix the two
together and we have the potential for amazing rallies.
The online survey many of you filled out indicated that many members who be willing to
host rallies if they had a mentor and/or shared the hosting with someone else.
Remember that when you agree to host or co-host a rally, it can take any form you wish including all pot luck rallies like the Flash Rally and Tumalo. If you are interested in
hosting or mentoring or both, please drop me a note at twestover@mac.com and I will
connect you. We like to have the rallies nailed down the November before the January
Rally Issue, so no hurry, just wanted to plant the see of an idea while we are enjoying
camping this summer.
Speaking of future rallies.......
The Oregon Airstream Unit Eclipse Rally: August 18-22, 2017
While we still have 4 years until the event, 2017 will bring a rare total Solar eclipse to the
state of Oregon. We are fortunate enough to have the path of totality pass right through
our state. Taking advantage of central Oregon's clear skies and ideal location for viewing
the eclipse the Oregon unit will be hosting a rally to experience this once in a lifetime
event. We have secured camping sites at Lake Simtustus (a little over an hour from
Bend and a little over two hours from Portland). We will have sites ranging from full hook
ups to dry camping and are planning a whole slate of activities including talks discussing
the Solar Eclipse and what to expect and watch for, solar viewing using safe methods as
well as some nighttime astronomy activities. Lake Simtustus also offers boating, fishing
and lots of relaxing! We are planning for a large gathering for this unique event. You
won't want to miss this rally so mark your calendars accordingly and watch for upcoming
information. Your team of Oregon unit members is already hard at work planning for a
fun and interesting event!
