PENANG JOINT CHAMBERS
OF COMMERCE (PJCC)
The Penang Joint Chambers of Commerce is an Apex Organization
comprising the nine principle private sector bodies concerned with
Commerce and Industry in the State of Penang.
In the early 1970’s, the Penang Malay, Chinese and Indian Chambers of
Commerce pioneered the idea of getting all the ethnic Chambers in
Penang to come together for consensus on issues affecting the various
ethnic groups.
The Penang Joint Chambers of Commerce (PJCC) was thus officially
formalized on 27th June 1974 by the Malay, Chinese and Indian
Chambers of Commerce.
The Chairmanship of the PJCC is held by rotation among the members for
every 2 years.
The general objectives of the Penang Joint Chambers of Commerce is to
promote, foster and protect the interests of all the business communities
who are participating in commercial and industrial activities in Malaysia,
and in particular in the State of Penang.
The PJCC working committee convened meetings to discuss policy and
administrative matters.

OBJECTIVES
The general objectives of PJCC are to promote, foster and protect the interest
of all member and in particular:
To coordinate an integrate all chambers in Penang relating to business and
industry.
To obtain and impart business information and act as an "information
dissemination center" for business opportuinities in Penang.
To act on common economic issues in the state.
To cooperate with the state government in promoting official gathering related
to commerce and industry.
To represent business and industrial interest at home and abroad.
PENANG MALAY CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE, MALAYSIA (PMCC)
BACKGROUND
In 1959, a group of 20 Malay businessmen in Penang met to discuss the role
of Malay businessmen in the state following the country’s independence.
Consequently, the ‘Malay Chamber of Commerce, Penang and Province
Wellesley’ was formed in the same year.
The Chamber was instrumental in helping and uniting Malay businessmen in
this country. As of 1973, the chamber became known as Malay Chamber of
Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, Penang Branch congruent with the new
Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia Constitution which
was accepted by all the Malay chambers in Malaysia. In 1992, the name was
changed to Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia.
OBJECTIVES:
The Chamber plays an important role in fulfilling its principal objectives which
include:
Integrating Malay businessmen and entrepreneurs in Penang.
Establishing a Malay commercial body for the benefit of Malays in the field of
commerce and industry.
Coordinating members’ activities.
To identify and develop business opportunities for the benefit of its members.
Producing publications pertaining to trade, industry and commerce.
Assisting or representing members in trade discussions, negotiations and the
like, at home and abroad.
Establishing or assisting corporations, bodies, associations, scholarship trust
funds or other welfare organizations.
Communicating or coordinating with other corporations or associations
having similar objectives.
Issuing “Certificate of Origin” for goods exported from Malaysia.

PENANG CHINESE CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE (PCCC)
FOUNDATION
Established in 1903, the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) was
one of the pioneer trade organization founded at the turn of the twentieth
century in this region. It has come a long way since its humble inception and
is now one of the strongest commercial institutions in Malaysia in terms of
membership and organizational and functional characteristic that is well
recognized by both the public and private sectors.
In year 2003, the Registrar of Society of Malaysia (ROS) presented the Award
Certificate of Excellent Society to the Chamber. It has also been awarded the
ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System (QMS) Certificate in March 2006
and upgraded to ISO 9001:2008 QMS in March 2010.
OBJECTIVE
To improve and develop trade and industry.
To collect, collate and disseminate commercial information and to issue
certificates of authentication.
To arbitrate and settle trade and industrial disputes.
To collect and compile trade statistics.
To organize trade exhibitions, seminars and human resource development
programmes either on its own or in collaboration with other institution(s).
To support charitable, cultural and educational institutions.
MEMBERSHIP
The Chamber now has more than a thousand membership composed of
individuals, corporations as well as commercial associations and trade
guilds. The members of PCCC are from various business sectors, including
enterprises, financial institutions, listed companies, housing & construction,
garment & textiles, sole-agents & retailers etc.

MALAYSIAN INDIAN CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY
BACKGROUND
The Chamber had its origin in the early 1920s when the Indian Mercantile
Community in Penang and Province Wellesley took some semblance of
assembly to look after their commercial interests. The group was later
formalized and bore the name “The Penang Indian Chamber of Commerce”
and perhaps it is the first Indian Chamber founded in Malaysia.
The Chamber is a non-profit Making body, financed entirely from Members
Subscriptions, Entrance Fee and surpluses arising from its activities.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives for which Chamber is established shall be for the
promotion, protection and advancement of all interest in relation to Trade,
Commerce and Industry of the Malaysian Indian Community in the State of
Penang.
AFFILIATION
The Chamber is affiliated to the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of
Commerce and Industry (MAICCI). MAICCI is the apex body of the various
State level Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The Chamber is
represented on MAICCI as a Council Member is a component member of the
National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malaysia (NCCIM).

The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce traces its history to the
Penang Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture established in 1837. Penang
is a Branch Secretariat that assists and promotes trade, industry and
commerce covering the northern states of Penang, Kedah and Perlis.
The Chambers not only represents Traders, Mercantile Merchants and
Agriculture but also Manufacturers, Hoteliers, Educators, Medical and a host
of other services. MICCI represent nearly 1,000 organizations with an
estimated combined net worth exceeding RM 110 billion and over 500,000
employees. In the Northern region we represent close to 100 member
companies of 14 different nationalities, 25% of which are headquartered in
Kuala Lumpur.
Apart from endorsement of certificates of Origin, the branch assists it
members and associates in their queries on government policies. The Branch
Secretariat and Executive Committee sit on 14 of the Penang State's advisory
Councils in various fields.

Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA) Malaysia is a
non-profit organization and hereinafter known as SAMENTA in the market.
SAMENTA was founded in 1986 by a group of local entrepreneurs to
represent the interests of the SMEs.
Objectives:To assist, promote and develop SMEs of Malaysia.

BACKGROUND
Formed in 1974, the Real Estate & Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia
(Penang Branch) has the following aims and objectives:
To promote and co-ordinate development of land and construction of
buildings for residential, commercial, industrial, tourism and other related
purpose by members with a view towards contributing effectively to the
economic development of the country;
To study problems arising from the development of Land and construction
of buildings as well as to propose solutions to the government, through the
relevant ministries, departments and agencies;
To protect the legitimate interests of members, in particular, to enquire into
and discuss with the government and its agencies on matters pertaining to
policy, finance, legislation, technical standards and administrative
procedures, affecting the development of land and construction of
buildings.
REHDA Penang, apart from holding its monthly meeting, actively engages in
dialogues with the Government and statutory bodies for clarification on
policies, procedures and other matters affecting the industry and to resolve
outstanding problems so as to enable the orderly development of the
industry. REHDA Penang Branch also plays an active role in the MBPP and
MPSP SPEAD Council.

PENANG TOURIST ASSOCIATION (PTA)
Penang Tourist Association (PTA) was established on 26th November 1972
and officially incorporated on 16th March 1984, with (Registration No 233575
W). According to record, PTA is the oldest Tourism NGO in Penang.
It always acted as an umbrella body for the practitioners of tourism industry
in Penang and in late 80’s, made into an incorporated company which is
limited by Guarantee.
In 1992, the name was changed to Penang Tourist Centre Berhad and today
managed by a team of directors under the chairmanship of Dato’ Syed Mohamad Aidid Bin Syed Murtaza.
