What People Say About Us
The Worcestershire Association of School Business Management: WASBM
The Worcestershire Association of School Business Management (WASBM affiliated to NASBM, the professional association for those working in school
business management) is very pleased to be associated with the Worcestershire
Education Network of suppliers and services for schools (WEN). As Business
Leaders in schools, we need to have ready access to a range of value for money,
high-quality services, from legal advice to electricians and IT support to curriculum
development expertise. The trusted local WEN directory contains only those
businesses with a proven track record within education.
In promoting best practice amongst schools, we need to be able to source the very best
suppliers and services. A unique feature of WEN is that the network is putting in place a
robust procedure for removing any business that fails to meet its high-standard, agreed code
of conduct; if any member fails in this regard they will be removed immediately from the WEN
directory. We believe that this is the launch of something big; as more local professionals
and contractors join WEN, it will embed into a truly comprehensive and trusted source of
information for procurement in schools. It is a ‘one stop shop’ for finding local suppliers with
experience, expertise and professionalism who will go the extra mile for your school.
WASBM is the Worcestershire forum for local school business managers, facilitating
discussion on issues of mutual interest, promoting best practice and signposting professional
development. We have links with other professional groups and bodies e.g. the Midland Bursar
Group (MBG), Worcestershire Association of Secondary Headteachers (WASH) and the
NASBM.
We would be very pleased to hear from you if you are involved in school business
management, to discuss the range of support that you need.

What our schools say:
FE
SEN
We found Therese’s day at school inspirational and motivating. Her style of working meant
that everyone felt included and was able to actively participate, and leave feeling better
informed, more confident, and ready for action! It was a great team-building day for all staff
and helped everyone to work together with a greater understanding of our children’s’ daily
needs.
We have initiated many of Therese’s ideas already and children are reaping the benefits of more
structured, cohesive play and lunch times.
I’m sure we’ll be in touch for further training! Regards,
Pam Simpson, Headteacher Kimpton, Thruxton and
Fyfield C of E Primary School
The biggest impact of our training with Therese Hoyle has been the sense of pride and purpose,
feeling of being valued and ownership our Lunchtime Supervisors have taken with what goes on
at lunchtimes.
They are now more motivated, engaged in playing games with the children, have set up zoned activity
areas and Playtime Buddies.
As a result the children are being more tolerant, friendly and kind to one another which has led to a marked
reduction in incidents of poor behaviour and fewer first aid incidents at lunchtimes.
Natalie Rankin, Deputy Headteacher, ARK Blacklands Primary Academy, Hastings
‘The Flourishing Schools Programme helped change the culture in our school.
The harder stuff is contained in a report tabled at a Board of Trustee meeting in March: ‘exclusions have
gone from eight to one in two years, while detention rates have halved. The number of serious cases
requiring major intervention by the principal was 34 in the first term, plummeting to just 11 for the whole of
last year.’
Headteacher, Musselburgh School
Therese was contracted to implement in nine South Dunedin schools the “Flourishing Schools Circle Time
Programme.” This required her to work with and guide over 120 teachers and support staff in nine schools.
She used a range of professional development presentations to support each school to embrace and fully
implement the programme.
Some five years on, the work Therese did has had a huge impact on and influenced thousands of students
in the wider Dunedin and Otago areas.
Therese is an outstanding presenter and facilitator. Top Qualities: Great Results, Personable, Expert

Who we are
Solar Sentry provides window film solutions to the issues caused by
glass and glazing in schools. Our films can reduce heat gain through
glass, reduce heat loss in winter, block out harmful UV, provide glare
control and add privacy, and retain glass shards if the window is
broken for any reason.
What we do
Solar Sentry Window Films are specialists in upgrading your existing
glazing with our specialist thin film coatings. Working like a second
skin on glass, these films can reduce overheating in the summer,
slow heat loss in winter and reduce glare. All the films we provide will
block 99+% UV, and our specialist safety films will upgrade glass to
conform to health and safety standards.
WORCESTERSHIRE EDUCATION NETWORK
73
How can your school benefit:
Solar Sentry Window Films can help schools maintain a reasonable classroom
temperature in the height of summer, keep the heat from escaping so quickly in the
winter, and reduce distracting glare which might be forcing teaches to currently close
blinds. We help schools to protect their pupils in many ways, from blocking out the
harmful UV rays of the sun, to applying frosted film or one-way mirror film for pupils
privacy. We also offer ‘Regulation 14’ surveys, part of Health and Safety Regulation
requirements, we assist in identifying potential high risk glazing and minimise any
glass risk with our safety films, delivering certified protection against the dangers of
broken glass. Schools are advised to keep their regulation 14 records up to date and
reviewed regularly.

How can your school benefit:
Keeping correctly hydrated is vitally important.
Here are some of the reasons why:
A 2% drop in body water causes fuzzy memory,
trouble with basic math, and problems focusing on
computer screens or printed page
For each 1% loss of water, there is a loss of 10% in
exercise performance
With the human body being made up of almost 70%
water it is vital to keep hydrated to stay healthy
Studies have found that productivity has gone up
by as much as 10% since installing watercoolers

The Worcestershire Education Network: WEN
Last year, the Worcestershire Education Network members pooled together
the resources necessary to offer educators the best possible event.
Thank you to all the teachers, bursars and school business managers who
attended the keynote speaker sessions, the networking sessions and the
education related presentations on the day.
Here are some highlights from the last WEN event:
• We started the day with Jane Howard’s inspirational talk about education in
general and the new National Curriculum in particular: “New emphasis in the
new curriculum is on speaking & listening.”
• Ofsted Inspector Kate Brunt offered us an alternative look at how to aim for
outstanding: “Empowering people is the key leading towards Outstanding.”
• Felicity Robinson and Miguel Dean talked about the relationship between the
outdoor environment & learning.
• Andy Wheeler from the Worcestershire County Cricket Club talked about how
skills are developed from physical literacy - “Primary School Programme is
aimed at getting the children of Worcestershire more active & healthy.”
• WMS were there as well talking about how they can assist the education sector.
• Worcester Association of School Business Management made everyone aware
of the barriers to entrepreneurship in schools.
• The amazing choir from Hartlebury School delighted the audience.
• The raffle prizes were awarded by Tony Bennett, Coomber Electronic Equipment
MD.
• At the end Robin Walker, MP for Worcester, joined us for a Q&A session on
Fairer Funding for education in Worcestershire.
It was a great day for everyone interested in local Worcestershire education.
This year we promise to offer you a WEN event that will rival the last one!
Our network keeps growing with new members joining us, so don’t miss our
new and inspiring ideas & resources at the next event!
