My tips for lowering service charges
The first step to reduce your service charges is of course to take advantage of our
banking plans and special programs. But there are a few other little tricks as well.

Maintain the minimum monthly balance required
If you don’t have a banking plan, the simple act of getting one lets you avoid
transaction and account management fees. Also, avoid having too many bank
accounts. Instead, regroup all your funds in a single account with our Red Carpet
Simplified Service. This is simpler to manage and it keeps charges from piling up.
Take out more money less often
Since you pay fees for each transaction, it is not in your interest to regularly make small withdrawals or transfers. Not only does that cost you money, but your frequent trips to ABMs are a waste of your valuable time.
Avoid paying your bills at the branch
Transactions at the branch are the most costly. So unless you have a banking plan or a program that covers them, opt for transactions at an automated banking
machine or through LBCDirect – we tell you all about that In point 2.1.
Ask for Overdraft Protection
Cheques and direct debits without sufficient funds cost a bundle: $45.00 to be precise, and your financial reputation takes a hit. So why take the risk of that happening to you when you can avoid it with our Overdraft Protection? It provides protection from $250 to $1,500 against a temporary shortfall of funds.
And since you only pay fees when you use it - $5.00 per month of usage plus the applicable interest on the overdraft – it’s a real bargain to keep your peace of mind, and your reputation, intact.

Take advantage of direct payment
When you make purchases, make INTERAC®6 Direct Payment your preferred choice. It’s fast and some retailers even let you withdraw funds. If you need cash,
kill two birds with one stone. It saves you a trip to a branch and since time is money, you’re a double winner.
Choose our automated banking machines
When you are a Laurentian Bank client, it’s always in your best interest to use automated banking machines because there are no user fees in addition to transaction fees. At other institutions’ ABMs, it could cost you $1.50 in INTERAC®6 fees per transaction plus any applicable surcharges from the institution that owns the ABM.
By prepared when you make a stop payment
If you have all your information with you, the charges for your request will be less expensive ($13.00 instead of $16.50) than if you are missing papers and the Bank has to conduct research to find them.

You see, your PINs are the keys that open the doors to your bank accounts
or the funds available on your credit card. To protect your money, here is a list
of the main things to do and not to do when using your client cards.

Carrying out transactions online is very practical. But it also takes vigilance.
You have to exercise caution here, as well. And not just once – over and over!
Measures to keep your online operations secure
RECOMMENDATIONS TO PROTECT YOUR CLIENT CARDS
Never send confidential information (account numbers, card numbers, passwords, etc.) by email. The Bank
never emails its clients to ask them for personal or confidential information.
Always choose a different PIN or password for each of your cards.
To go to your LBCDirect Online Banking Services site, you must always use Laurentian Bank’s official website
address: www.laurentianbank.ca.
Choose a PIN or a code that is easy for you to remember, but difficult to guess. Never choose your date
of birth, your phone number or any other code of this type.
Avoid using software that records passwords.
Always memorize your PINs and passwords. Don’t write them down anywhere and never give them to anyone.
Always keep an eye on your card during an operation and never lend it to anyone.
Always shield the keypad when you enter your PIN at a banking machine or on an INTERAC® point-of-sale

Use a recommended browser with 128-bit encryption.
Check your account and credit card statements regularly. If there are any anomalies, contact us right away.

Immediately notify us if one of your cards is lost or stolen.
Never download software or accept a file attachment when accessing websites, chat rooms or newsgroups
unless you are absolutely sure of their authenticity.
Contact us ASAP if you have any reason to believe the security of your cards or PIN is compromised.
Disable the computer’s file sharing function.
Before conducting an online financial transaction with your credit card, ALWAYS make sure that you are
on a secure site – in the browser’s status bar in the lower-right corner of the screen, there should be an icon
of a locked lock, and the address of the website should start with the letters “https” (which confirm that this
is a secure site). By double clicking on the lock, you should be able to ascertain the legitimacy of the security
certificate issued for it.

is to make vigilance a habit and to take every precaution.

›› Never lend your cards or give your PIN to anyone.
›› Change your PIN regularly.
›› Keep your receipts and check that the transactions carried out on your account
are those you actually made.
›› Make a list of all your credit card numbers and keep it in a safe place.
It’s practical in case of loss, theft or fraud.
Internet precautions
›› Use passwords that are easy to memorize but difficult to guess.
›› Never write down your passwords anywhere – especially not in your computer
memory – and never give them to anyone.
›› Change your passwords regularly.
›› Install antivirus software, antispyware and a personal firewall on your computer.
Update them regularly.
›› Regularly update your browsers (Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and operating system
(Windows, Mac OS, etc.). The updates help resolve security vulnerabilities.
›› Before opening a session to perform a financial transaction on a website,
make sure that the site is secure. If it is, there will be an icon of a locked lock on
the right side of the browser’s status bar and the page’s address will start with
“https//”. As soon as your session is completed, don’t forget to end it by clicking
on the link for this purpose (“end of session”, “log out” or something similar).
