SPOTLIGHT
Puli
AKC Group: Herding Dogs
Year Recognized by AKC: 1936
Country of Origin: Hungary, where they were first used to herd sheep over 1000
years ago.
Unusual Characteristic: The Puli’s coat is definitely “one-of-a-kind”! The undercoat
is wooly, soft, and dense, while the outer coat is long, eventually growing into “cords”.
These cords offer protection from the harsh Hungarian winters.
Average Size: 16-17 inches in height, 30 pounds (although the dog seems much
larger because of all that hair!)
