TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 2, 2016 Faith is a gracious gift from God. It can neither be earned nor bought, only responded to with works of love and service (3). A vibrant faith can make us strong, loving, and wise (2), confident that God will guard us from all harm (1). He is the Rock of our salvation (Ps). OUR PASTOR, FR. NOEL SANVICENTE’S INSTALLATION October 22nd the Church celebrates the Feast of Saint John Paul, II. It will be a special day for us here at the Church of the Resurrection. Please mark your calendars. On Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the 5 pm Mass our Bishop, the Most Rev. Patrick J. McGrath, D.D., J.C.D. will install Father Noel Sanvicente as the fourth pastor of the Church of Resurrection. You are cordially invited! Please RSVP Mary-Clare at 408-7758056 or email maryclare@resparish.org Liturgical Tidbits LET GO AND LET GOD Many twelve-step programs use the phrase “Let go and let God.” In all their simplicity, these five words are the heart of today’s readings. For people who struggle with addictive behavior, these words plainly remind us that we can’t manage, control, or manipulate certain areas of our lives. How many times can we look back in our lives and find evidence of some plan at work other than our own? These are the moments when, for whatever reasons, we let someone greater than ourselves work the plan. We probably didn’t even recognize at the time that we were letting go of anything, but in retrospect, we see God’s hand and loving presence. It is our awareness of these moments that gives us the courage and initiative to let go again later on. It is this courage and initiative that are highlighted in today’s readings. We come to call it “faith.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. CATECHETICAL MINISTRY REFLECTIONS Reflecting on the Sunday readings for yourself or as a family from Our Sunday Visitor. Questions of the Week Theme: Faith is the anchor and force of life. Breaking Open the Word Suggested text for faith sharing: Today’s Second Reading Step One: Listen to the Word As you hear the words of St. Paul proclaimed in this reading, what strikes you most? What word or phrase caught your ear? Step Two: Look into Your Life Question for Children: Jesus teaches us that our faith is is powerful and with it, we can do great things. We can forgive, love, and share with others. Which of these do you do most often? Question for Youth: The Gospel tells us even a little bit of faith is enough to make amazing things happen. How are you keeping your faith alive and growing? What good things happen in your life because of your faith? Question for Adults: Being “in Christ” means living as Christ teaches. What signs do you see in your life of generosity, forgiveness, hospitality, or any other of Jesus’ teachings?
