From Daniel's Den
THREE FUNERALS IN FOUR DAYS!
Yesterday was the funeral for a murdered two year old boy, and on
Tuesday there are two more funerals: an 87 year old “Mom-Mom”
and a 90 year old family matriarch. Death is all around! Though we
avoid death, and even discussion about death whenever possible, it
sometimes smacks us in the face! Death is inescapable! This week
death has touched the loved ones of Rob Weltzin, LaVerne Daniels,
and George Rowe.
The same day I snapped this photo at the Sheddsville Cemetery, dating from the 17th century, in Southern Vermont, the call came from
Rob notifying me that his “Mom-Mom” had passed. None can escape!
In the 18th century people typically died in their 40’s and 50’s. In the
21st century we may live into our 80’s and 90’s, but we are still going
to die! If we are Christians, when we die, we grieve; but ‘we do not
grieve as those who have no hope.”
Dan Cooper
aka
“Dan, Dan,
the Preacherman”
So what? So live a life of faith! “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be
steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Cor. 15:56-58).
Death is
inescapable!
And it was exactly four years ago today, that my mother took her last breath and moved on to her eternal
reward. I look forward to joining her! Heaven is a wonderful place, filled with glory and grace!

Three Simple Ways You Can Meet People at Church
One of the criticisms I typically hear about a bigger church is that it’s too hard to get to know people. How
can people know if you’ve got something going on in your life if there are hundreds or even thousands of
people there?
But here’s what I’ve experienced. A church of ANY size seems too big if you don’t know anyone. Here are
three ways you can get to know people at the Pitman Road church.
Carlos Isaziga
@carlosisaziga
A church of
ANY size seems
too big if you
don’t know
anyone.
#1 - Linger in the lobby.
Before the service even starts, come a little early. Grab a cup of coffee in the lobby and introduce yourself to
someone. When the service is over, don’t rush to the parking lot. Take your time and mingle with people in
our lobby. Stop by the Welcome Center and meet one of our hosts. If you have children in our Children’s
Ministry, talk to the other parents and the volunteers. They aren’t too busy to talk with you.
#2 - Join a LIFE Group.
One of the best ways to “do life” with people is to join a small group. At Pitman Road, we call them LIFE
groups, because we want community to develop there as we do life together. Whether it’s 50, 500 or 5,000
people in a church service, it’s tough to talk about life on Sunday morning. So these LIFE groups meet in
homes and at the building throughout the week. You can give one a try, and if it’s not right, you can try another one. For a full list of LIFE groups, go to our website or pick up a brochure at the Welcome Center.
#3 - Join a volunteer/ministry team.
This is one of the best ways to get to know people. No matter your stage in life, there’s a certain camaraderie from serving together. For example, the 12 or so adults, young adults and teens who work in our Audio
Visual Ministry have become great friends. Same goes for our Family Promise Ministry. Serving at the Pitman Road Church isn’t complicated. Just go on our website to learn about each of the teams/ministries and
contact the leader.
Those are just three ways you can meet people and make church feel a whole lot smaller!

Engagement Congratulations!!!!
Something we have been
waiting for happened on
Thursday, August 18th...
Toria Davis and Nathan
Haden got engaged!!! We’ve
all watched Toria grow up,
and for the last five years,
witnessed Toria and Nates
relationship grow and thrive
through high school and college. They weathered separation while Toria attended
Lipscomb University in TN,
and Nate attended Rowan
University here...as well as Toria’s extended trips to Australia.
During this time, Nate continued to attend church here at Pitman,
also making the choice to be baptized. He works faithfully in the
AV ministry, you can see him in the sound booth on Sundays.
Nate proposed to Toria on the beach at sunset in Ocean City! It
was the five year anniversary of their first date!
Since their graduation last spring, Nate has taken a full time position with West-Ward Pharmaceuticals, and Toria is finishing prerequisite courses in preparation for a graduate degree in Occupational Therapy. Together they are both actively serving the
Young Adults ministry.
They have not yet set a wedding date. But we will let you know
when we find out! Congratulations to Nate and Toria. We are so
excited for you! And also to Tim and Melody on the engagement
of their first born! Many happy days ahead for the Davis and
Haden families! Blessing to all!
