FIRST FAMILY NEWS JUNE 2016 The summer is finally here. School is out and that means that we come to the largest outreach in the life of our church—Vacation Bible School. Beginning Monday, June 6, at 8:45 a.m., our church campus will be filled with hundreds of children who will learn new songs and motions, make crafts to take home, and play exciting games. All of this (and more) is done while they learn of God’s work across the world and in their own hearts. This week is only possible through hundreds of you who will take the time to volunteer. So for those who are serving alongside of Cassie Stanteen, Peggy Lee, Jenna Oswalt, Julie Walker, and Colby Brumfield in this great week - thank you for your investment in our children and community. For those of you who cannot serve because of work or family commitments - pray that God will use VBS to reach people in our community for Christ. Pray that the gift of salvation will be received by another generation this week. Blessings, Pastor David VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2016 JUNE 6-10 / 8:45 A.M. - NOON Ages: 4 years old (by September 1, 2016) – 6th grade (See article on page 2) CALLED CHURCH BUSINESS MEETING SUNDAY, JUNE 5 / 6:00 P.M. We call our volunteers who commit to pray for our mission teams and church planting partners “Rope Holders.” That phrase comes from 18th century English missionary, William Carey, who told his supporting churches that “I will go down (to India) into the pit if you will but hold the ropes.” As we pray for those who represent us on mission, let us be as faithful to pray for them as they are faithful to go. Would you like to be a Rope Holder? Call the church office to be put on the Rope Holders mission prayer requests distribution list. As our mission teams to Prague, Montana, and New Orleans prepare for their upcoming trips, please pray that the Holy Spirit would fill each one with His power and presence. Pray for the teams’ planning and that God would provide for all their needs so that they can go as planned. PRAGUE FAMILY CAMP MISSION TEAM - Six members depart on June 23 and three of them return on July 3. They will evangelize and encourage believers teaching English through Bible stories and lessons. UPCOMING MISSION OPPORTUNITY Wednesday, July 6 – Saturday, July 9 / New Orleans If you are a coach, this is the trip for you! Share your knowledge of football, basketball, and your story of knowing Christ by leading a Neighborhood Sports Camp! We also need “sideliners” to help with food, registration, etc. Call Russell Kyzar (601.896.4295) or email russell.kyzar@fbcclinton.org. JUNE 2016 FIRST FAMILY NEWS SUMMER WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY “UNHITCHING FROM THE CRAZY TRAIN” Begins Tuesday, June 14 / 9:30 a.m. / Fellowship Hall You’re hitched to the Crazy Train, and you want to get off. Make an investment in your personal sanity and join us as we explore, with counselor and teacher Julie Sparkman, how we can answer the invitation of our Redeemer: “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30. Leader: Eva Crisler - Book Cost: $15.00 As we approach summertime, our kids are getting more and more excited. Why? Because they no longer have to sit in a classroom and learn for several hours a day. Who can blame them? As you’d expect, this also causes some of their learning to go backwards. Here’s a fun fact. According to onlinecollege.org, "On average, students lose about 2.6 months worth of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills during their summer break." Join us for DiscoverPoint SUNDAY, JUNE 26 / 10:45 A.M. / FELLOWSHIP HALL Have you been coming to FBC for a while but just not sure what your next step should be? Join the Pastor for a one-hour Sunday morning class where you will discover who we are, what we are about, and how you can become connected at FBC. Registration is encouraged for participation. Register by sending an email to susan.thompson@fbcclinton.org or www.fbcclinton.org. PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT Friday, June 24 / 6:00-9:00 p.m. Parents’ Night Out is a ministry provided to members and prospective families of First Baptist Church. Care is provided for babies – grade 6. There is no charge – we only ask that you make reservations by Wednesday, June 22, so that a sufficient number of leaders can be enlisted for the evening. Please sign-up in the preschool/children suites, information desk or call the church office. So for all of you parents out there, you should be multiplying fractions with your kids on the way to Grandma’s house in July! CENTRIKID PARENT MEETING I’m kidding, of course. But just like kid's Math skills go down in the summer, so does church funding. And it’s not because anybody says, “I just don’t feel like supporting the mission of the church this summer.” It’s because people forget. They’re out of town. There’s a lot of other stuff going on. WACKY WEDNESDAY NIGHTS As a church, we have a lot of exciting things we want to accomplish this summer. But they also require money and resources. That’s why your decision to continue giving is such a big deal. So I want to invite you to give today. But I also want to invite you to continue giving this summer. We will work diligently to be good stewards of your donations. Thank you for your faith in this area, and for supporting this church! Sunday, June 12 / 5:00 p.m. / Youth Worship Space Kids who have completed grades K-6th grade, are invited to join us for some Wednesday night fun this summer. All events will begin at 6:00 p.m. Cost for each event is $10. Dates are as follows: June 22, July 6, July 20, and August 3. Locations are TBA.
