We very much appreciate the support you have given us over the years proving, even when, nationally, amateur and professional companies are having a difficult time, there is a strong tradition of live theatre in Banbury and it has a bright future. I couldn’t let tonight’s presentation of Dracula pass without mentioning the sad loss of Christopher Lee last month. He played Count Dracula ten times, redefining the screen image, investing his Count with passion and sexuality unlike Bela Lugosi’s 1931 portrayal before him. We hope you enjoy this adaptation and our interpretation. Since our last production, we have been recovering from our 70th Anniversary Dinner at The Wroxton House Hotel, and have had successful outings at The Lighthorne and Abingdon Drama festivals with The Canary Cage. Congratulations to director, Michele Lothian who won the “First Time Director’s Award” at Abingdon. Your individual support has been added to by our season sponsors to whom we also give thanks. The partnership between Banbury businesses and community theatre is one we hope to continue with, and strengthen in the future. We are a very busy society - always on the lookout for new members. If you would like to join us either on stage, behind the scenes or as a social member, do get in touch, or come and see what we do, first hand, at one of our Tuesday evenings here at The Mill. More information can be found on our website www.banburycrossplayers.org.uk. Jem Turner Chairman As I listened, the descriptions attributed to the piece "overwhelming in its emotional power", "hauntingly beautiful" seemed most appropriate. I managed to get in touch with Richard and one Saturday-morning video conference later (don’t you love technology?) - he in his New York apartment and me in my Banbury kitchen Richard agreed we could use his music in our production. After selling out its New York City premiere engagements at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Next Wave Festival, Voices of Light has had over 100 performances throughout the world. © Amy Slinger The work has attracted global media attention including articles in the Wall Street Journal and an extended profile on CBS TV. Performances of Voices of Light have taken place at The Sydney Opera House, The Barbican, Die Glocke, (Germany) and in Johannesburg and Pretoria. I hope you enjoy the small selections of the piece we bring to you tonight and, if you are as inspired as I was, you can read more on Richard’s website - www.richardeinhorn.com - or maybe pop down to Coles and pick up a copy! BRINGING LIGHT to the DARK Our 2015/16 Season opens in October 2015 with Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular, followed by Ray Cooney’s farce It Runs in the Family in February 2016. Agatha Christie’s The Hollow takes the April slot and Richard Everett’s Entertaining Angels closes our Season in July 2016. We hope this varied programme will bring you and your friends to The Mill next year, continuing your valued support of BCP. Some years ago whilst Christmas shopping in Coles’ Bookstore in Bicester, I came across a CD called Voices of Light, an oratorio, written by American composer, Richard Einhorn, inspired by the film The Passion of Joan of Arc. Music is a key element of this production and when I began scouring my music collection, I was drawn to Richard’s work.
