February 2012 JBAR Newsletter
Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue
Advocating humane and healthy practices for animals in the
Jaltemba area by promoting health, education, sterilization,
adoptions, foster care and positive relationships with animals
and their owners.
December 2006 to January 2012: During this time, there were 11
clinics and more than 2,355 animals spayed or neutered in the
Jaltemba Bay Area!
Update:
The date for JBAR’s spring clinic is March 21st to 24th.
Many thanks to Sue and Del Moss for offering their beautiful home for
our clinic site. The address is: Hacienda del Mar, Av. Sol Nuevo #39,
Rincon De Guayabitos in the Residencial Area. Last house on the right
before the swinging bridge to La Penita
Clinic dates: Due to the “Adopt a Clinic” Initiative, we have Three
remaining free spay and neuter clinics this spring:
Lo de Marcos
Jaltemba Bay (JBAR):
Las Varas:
14th to 17th March
21st to 24th March
28th to 31st March
The clinic in San Blas “in memory of Ginny Rose” sponsored by Drs.
Elaine and Rob Klemmensen from the West Kootenay Animal Hospital in
Trail, B. C. (http://www.wkanimalhospital.com) spayed/neutered
animals. Thanks to Rob and Heather Erickson volunteered at this clinic
and wrote:
“Heather and I helped out with the San Blas Spay Neuter Clinic today. A total
of 88 animals have had surgery in the past 3 days, and with a half day wrap-up
tomorrow, the clinic will see roughly 100-110 animals.
Twenty Eight animals were seen today. The clinic is being held behind the DIF,
or government building, with shelters for each of surgery, post-op, and checkout. The regular three vets from PEACE, Anthony, Jimena and Poli keep one
prep table and two OR tables at a steady pace.
We noticed how few ticks and fleas are on these local animals. Apparently,
there were three cases of TVT yesterday, and one hernia case today, though
fewer abnormal cases than La Penita. One dog was euthanized due to serious
wounds from a machete.
This is a good steady clinic, and the locals were quite happy to have the extra
help today. They offered over-night accommodation should we wish to stay,
though we have other commitments tomorrow.”

money. A total of $10,000 was raised to purchase prothesis and/or a

From our email:
“My husband & I have made La Penita our winter home since 2001. I
honestly wasn't sure if I would be able to spend our retirement here. It was
just so sad to step over the dog & cats that seemed to be every few feet
along the streets. These animals were usually starving & often ill with
everything from parasites to mange. Since Jbar has started the clinics the difference has been unbelievable. People who come to visit us here usually comment immediately as to where
have all the dogs gone. We are pleased to be able to talk about the wonderful organizers &
volunteers at JBAR. I encourage folks in the area to get involved in this
wonderful project in one way or another.
Thank you from the us and mostly from our four legged friends. Well Done!! Karen & Doug Martin
From: Dr. Carla Bell from Saseenos Veterinary Services in Sooke, B.C.,
who is financially sponsoring the first free spay and neuter clinic in La
Varas, http://saseenosvet.com
“Just wanted to thank you all for the help in getting my little rescued puppy
a new home and to give you an update. "Tia" is doing wonderfully well with
her new family - our friends holidaying in Sayulita fell in love with her and
they're taking her back to Canada with them (same town as us). Their young
son renamed her "Gypsy" and they've been inseparable ever since and sleep
together each night. Thanks again,” Carla :)

MexPup
Our all volunteer group comprises citizens of Mexico, the United States and
Canada, who all collaborate in a process that takes a homeless dog from the streets
of Mexico, to a foster home in Puerto Vallarta for recovery and spay/neuter, to a
Guardian Angel volunteer who transports the MexPup from Puerto Vallarta’s airport
to an airport in Canada or the US, to a MexPup a foster home, and finally to the nolonger-homeless MexPup’s new forever family.

Spayed. Steffie walked with us in the “Cancer for Mama” parade and was
excellent on the leash and with crowds of people and other dogs.
