SUBJECT: RADIATIONINWILDPLANETSEAFOOD WildPlanetseafoodposesnohealthconcernduetopotential exposureofradiationasaresultofthe2011tsunamiinJapan SincethetsunamiandthesubsequentlydamagedFukushimanuclearpowerplant,Wild Planetchosetosystematicallytestthefishwepurchasedandprocessed.Inthelast threeyears,we’veaccumulatedover400radiationtestswhoseresultshaveproventhat ourcatchshouldnotbeofconcern. • TheradiationlevelatwhichtheFDAconsiderstobeofconcerntoconsumersis 1,200BQ/kg.In2011and2012,ourtestresultsshowedanaverageof3BQ/kg (BQ,orbecquerelsarethestandardunitofradiationmeasurement). • Assuch,allthefishwehavecannedsinceMarch2011are250to600times lowerthantheFDAlevelofconcern.Thebestdatawehaveshowsthereisno healthconcernatallforNorthPacifictunaorotherfishoutsideoftheimmediate coastalbeachzoneofFukushima.Thecontaminatedwatersthatwerereleased intotheoceaninApril2011havesincebeendispersedbyoceancurrents throughoutthevastPacificOcean. • SinceJanuary2013andthrough2016,wehavehadnodetectibleradiationinany ofourtests. Puttingradiationintocontextasitrelatestofish Inthesummerof2012newsreportsdiscloseddetectableamountsofcesium-137found inaBluefintunacaughtoffthecoastofCalifornia.Accordingtoresearchdoneatthe UniversityofTexas,itwouldrequiretheconsumptionof58poundsofthisBluefintuna toreach0.1microSievert.Toputintoperspective,gettingadentalx-rayprovidesthe sameamountofSievertsaseating2,930poundsofBluefintuna.Theradiation exposurefromamealofthatBluefintunatestedin2012isminisculecomparedtoother doseswecommonlyacceptasreasonableexposuresindailylife. InSummary… WildPlanetproductsaresafetoconsumewithoutfearofexcessiveradiation.Wehave continuedthetestingprotocolthroughout2012,2013,2014,2015andwewillcontinue ourtestingthroughout2016andbeyondinordertoprovideourcustomersand ourselveswiththeassurancethatWildPlanetproductsareabsolutelysafe.
