With harvesting practices 100% compliant with the Best Choices for Sustainability recommendations of Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, all of Wild Planet’s tuna products are sustainably caught using pole and line or troll caught fishing methods. Wild Planet is grateful to be recognized in the Greenpeace ranking as a “go-‐to eco-‐brand, topping the ranks for its dedication to ensuring its tuna products are sustainable and responsible.” In accepting this recognition, Wild Planet pledges to continue providing high-‐quality, sustainable tuna while raising industry awareness and educating consumers about sustainable practices. “When I read that many popular tuna brands have made the promise to go sustainable sometime in the future, I wonder why wait?” said Bill Carvalho, founder of Wild Planet Foods. “We’ve been using sustainable fishing methods since our inception in 2001— always have, always will. I am known for saying: it’s an ocean planet, as the oceans go, so goes the planet. Our oceans and their diverse life forms cannot and should not have to wait for brands to decide to do the right thing. Wild Planet would like to use this opportunity to implore brands like Bumble Bee, StarKist and Chicken of the Sea to get on board and switch to sustainable fishing methods.” To read the full Greenpeace ‘Tuna Shopping Guide’ study click HERE.
