SURVEY AND MAPPING SERVICES
Key staff members of McGoodwin Williams & Yates have conducted and managed, a wide variety of both
engineering and land surveying projects over the life of the firm, including engineering field surveys, site
surveys, GPS, existing facility surveys and all aspects necessary to complete the project.
Rights-Of-Way and Easements - MWY has extensive experience in determining project right-of-way
requirements and preparing legal descriptions for all types of municipal improvements. We have
managed right-of-way acquisition on numerous major projects in Northwest Arkansas and throughout the
state.
Equipment – MWY utilizes both Global Positioning and conventional “total station” electronic surveying
equipment complete with field data recorders. Data collected in the field can be entered directly into
computer software within minutes so analysis, design, and generation of CAD drawings can begin
immediately without manual processing of field data.
Our surveyors are trained in the use of the State Plane Coordinate System and are equipped with "AstroRhomb" software for quick, accurate determination of azimuth from solar observations. They are skilled in
the use of global positioning equipment for topographic, route and control surveys for mapping projects.
They are equipped with Trimble R8GNSS units, Trimble Pro XRS Mapping Grade GPS Unit, a trimble S6
RRobotic Total Station, a Sokkia Set 3 total station, Sokkia Optical Level, laptop computers for field use
and an Olympus Camedia D580 digital camera.
Digital Base Mapping - MWY maintains digital based zoning maps for several municipalities. These
maps are easily updated or rescaled using computer aided drafting software and ArcView G.I.S.
Software.
EXAMPLES:
City of Batesville, Existing Sewer Manhole Mapping - In 2009 our survey team mapped all existing
sewer manholes in the city of Batesville using our Trimble Pro XRS Mapping Grade GPS unit. The total
number of manholes was approximately 2700.
City of Batesville, GPS Control Network - In 2001, our survey team established a GPS Control Network
that covers the entire city of Batesville, Arkansas. NGS monuments were utilized in establishing the
control network. Since 2001 all surveying for projects in Batesville have been on one coordinate system,
which enables all projects to be referenced to each other in real-world positions. This control network
covers approximately 40 square miles; and has been used for various types of projects including new
water and sewer lines, water and sewer treatment plant improvements, and utility relocation projects.

The school originally was separated into a north campus and
south campus by Emma Street. This project required the
closing of Emma Street to allow for an addition that connected
the two campuses.
The street closure included numerous utility relocations in close
proximity of the existing structures on the site. The utility
relocations included but were not limited to water, sanitary
sewer and storm drainage.
The storm drainage relocation required special consideration
due to the unique challenges that were present with the
existing topography and the locations of the new addition.

Construction Bid: $4,562,000
Final Construction Cost: $4,471,818
Stormwater management for the new 10-acre Beaver Water District
site focused on the recycling and conservation of water and
landscape. As such, MWY incorporated both innovative and timetested techniques to create a showcase for stormwater management
and sustainable design. The overall approach/goal was to slow water
down as it drained and reduce concentrated flows to a minimum.
COMPLETED: June 2009
Infiltration/Bioretention basins are the key component of this design.
Five basins were constructed into which heavy volumes of
stormwater runoff is directed and can be stored for up to three days
before being discharged into the receiving stream.

The infiltration basin is typically formed by digging a large hole and
constructing a small perforated discharge pipe that will allow for
drainage. These pipes are generally six inches in diameter. The use
of small diameter piping represents significant savings over the use
of large diameter concrete stormwater piping. Above and below the
perforated pipe, crushed stone is placed to allow for water to both
enter the discharge piping and infiltrate as much water as possible
into the soils.
By maximizing the infiltration, every chance possible is provided to
replenish groundwater supplies and maintain soil moisture. An
additional benefit occurs in the layer of gravel as the water is filtered.
Pervious concrete parking and walkways also allows for water to
enter the system and eliminates direct runoff during rain events.

As an extension of the design of the Fayetteville, Arkansas
Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant completed by
McGoodwin, Williams, and Yates, MWY also provided site
planning and design services for the 28-acre Woolsey Wetland
Sanctuary mitigation project. Environmental aspects of this
project were completed by Environmental Consulting
Operations, Inc. of Benton, Arkansas.
MWY completed land surveys to develop drawings with sixinch contour lines; mitigation site layout and hydrological
engineering design features, including the installation of water
level control structures; and development of a hydrobudget
model.
Hydrological modifications were made by construction of
earthen berms using spoils generated from construction of the
wastewater plant to create a mix of habitats such as wet
meadow wetlands, marsh and open water habitat, and forested
wetlands.
The wetlands area has since been expanded to encompass 46
acres and has since been recognized by the National Wildlife
Federation as a certified national wildlife habitat.

HAR-BER MEADOWS COMMUNITY SITE DEVELOPMENT
MWY PROVIDES MULTIPLE SERVICES FOR 450-ACRE SITE
Har-Ber Meadows encompasses approximately 450 acres west of Springdale, Arkansas. The goal was to
create a "village type" community, including residential units and also commercial establishments as well
as neighborhood parks, bike paths, and small lakes.
Parcels for other types of community uses such as a church, an elementary school, a daycare center and
a community center were also reserved.
MWY was responsible for professional engineering advice and overall coordination of the project; design
of water, sewer, street and drainage facilities; platting of the phases of the development; coordination of
photogrammetry and geotechnical engineering services; boundary and topographic surveys, and other
assistance as requested by the owner.

JONES CENTER FOR FAMILIES
SITE DESIGN FOR 34-ACREA MULTI-USE FACILITY
MWY provided site planning for the Jones Center Complex in Springdale, situated on a 34-acrea campuslike setting. (MWY did not design the building in this instance.)
The project required the planning and design of the typical infrastructure improvements of access drives,
parking areas, water and wastewater facilities, storm drainage, area lighting and sidewalks all integrated
into a non-typical intensely landscaped setting.
Site planning involved creating a pleasant outside environment among access and parking facilities for
over 750 vehicles. All design elements were arranged in spaces with sufficient allocation to allow for
heavy landscaping to minimize the impact of both parked and moving vehicles on the site. A stormwater
drainage system was designed to improve the safety and comfort of pedestrians during periods of rainfall.
