NOTICE OF TRIP POLICY CHANGE Starting in 2016 we are implementing a new policy on trips. This deposit will be non-refundable in cases of cancellation. The remaining balance will be due 2 weeks following initial signup. We have had to cancel several trips due to members canceling their reservation at the last minute! We had all the trips slated for the 2015 year, to try to avoid these issues. Trips will be transferrable, in the event that you are able to find someone to buy your ticket. The staff apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause. Please watch for more information on the upcoming policy. WHAT DID THE GINGERBREAD MAN PUT ON HIS BED ? see below for answer. December…Holiday Show trip, Christmas party ($1.00 gift giveaway), Grandparent’s Day, New Years Eve Celebration All of this, plus a few center closings due to holidays & possible weather, will make for a hectic season. Please help us stay on track by lending a helping hand to the staff during busy activities and to other members in this fast paced season, wherever the need may arise. Also, prepare yourself and your home for the colder weather. Information on this topic is available at the center, and Rep. Stan Saylor’s office has information on the weatherization program. A MUST READ……..PREPARE FOR THE WINTER Avoid Slipping on Ice - Make sure to wear shoes with good traction and non-skid soles, and stay inside until the roads are clear. Replace a worn cane tip to making walking easier. Take off shoes as soon as you return indoors because often snow and ice attach to the soles and, once melted, can lead to slippery conditions inside. Dress for Warmth - Wear warm socks, a heavy coat, a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. In very cold temperatures, cover all exposed skin. Use a scarf to cover your mouth and protect your lungs. Your body temperature should never dip below 95 degrees -- if it does get medical assistance immediately. Fight Wintertime Depression - To help avoid feelings of isolation and loneliness, family members can check in on seniors as often as possible; even a short, daily phone call can make a big difference. Seniors can also arrange a check-in system with neighbors and friends, where each person looks in on one or two others daily. Check the Car - Get your car serviced before wintertime hits -- or ask a family member to bring it to a garage for you. Checking things like the oil, tires, battery and wipers can make a big difference on winter roads. Also make sure your car club membership is up-to-date in case of emergencies. Prepare for Power Outages - Make sure you have easy access to flashlights and a battery-powered radio in case the power goes out. Stockpile warm blankets. Longer power outages can spoil the food in your refrigerator and freezer so keep a supply of non-perishable foods that can be eaten cold on hand. If the power goes out, wear several layers of clothing, including a hat. Move around a lot to raise your body temperature. Prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning - Using a fireplace, gas heater or lanterns can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. Ensure your safety by checking the batteries on your carbon monoxide detector and buying an updated one if you need to. T’ai Chi Chih Classes Starting On the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month, there will be T’ai Chi Chih classes at the center. Barb Hines will be the instructor. There will be a donation request for each class. What is T’ai Chi Chih??? T’ai Chi Chih is the series of simple, graceful, non-strenuous movements that circulate and balance the intrinsic energy that flows within us. T’ai Chi Chih is made up of 19 different movements that can be done sitting or standing. Anyone can learn, regardless of age or physical ability. Classes will be held from 10:30 until 11:30. CAKE MIX COOKIES From the Board….. The Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every member for your support in 2015. We are fortunate to have a fabulous staff. Trena, Tracy and Jean are the BEST always placing the needs of the members before their own. To everyone who has volunteered their time to assist in any form from delivering meals, helping in the kitchen, helping with a fundraiser or event, cleaning or putting the salt and pepper shakers away as well as many other tasks, we THANK YOU. We truly appreciate all that YOU have done for the center. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas! 1 (18 1/4 ounce) box chocolate cake mix 1 ⁄2 cup vegetable oil 2 eggs 2 cups chocolate chips or 2 cups butterscotch chips or 2 cups peanut butter chips 1 ⁄2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Combine cake mix, oil and eggs in a bowl and mix well.
