We wanted to collect all the information one would need to decide the most valuable off-roading trail that are in their state – to make an educated decision and prevent any surprises. Bluff Creek ATV Park (Combo) (Eddyville, IA) (641-969-4214) This abandoned strip mine consists of about 20 miles of trails, steep hill climbs, deep pits and four motocross tracks. One track is for beginners and novices and one very challenging track is known as "Gravity Cavity”. The park is open year round but will close temporarily during and after bad weather. Riding is allowed from dawn to dusk and primitive camping is permitted. The campground has 13 sites and amenities includes two water spigots, Permit Required? Trails are well maintained and marked with some cool bridge crossings, thanks to the Bluff Creek Riders Association and the Iowa OHV Association. Cambridge OHV Park (Cambridge, IA) (515- 299-0508) This 30 acre OHV park is open to ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles. The park features a kids area, and MX area, Permit Required? A current DNR registration sticker and club membership is required Gypsum City OHV Park (Fort Dodge, IA) (515-281-8385) Once an old mining area, this property is now open to ATVs and dirt bikes. The park has about 15 miles of woods trails, several motocross tracks including a 1.5 mile main track, a safety training area, beginners area and ample parking. The park is roughly 300 acres however there are plans to expand to 1500 acres. Overnight parking is currently not permitted but there are plans to add a campground which should be completed by Spring 2015. Permit Required? Climate Type Miles Long Dates Open Entry Fee? Other amenities that will be added are restroom and shower facilities, dump station and a park office.The trails are generally open daily year-round but may close temporarily during and after bad weather, so call before heading out or check the Iowa DNR park status page Lakeview OHV Park (Combo) (Solon, IA) (515-281-8385) Open to ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles daily, this area offers miles of woods and sand trails, hill climbs, mud bogs and ravines along with two motocross tracks. There is no fee to ride this area however a current Iowa registration sticker is required and DNR officers regularly patrol the. Permit Required? Yes Other Vehicles? Be sure to thank the Lakeview Off Road Riders for maintaining this park Nicholson-Ford OHV Park (Marshalltown, IA) (641-751-5246) This offroad park offers 120 acres of tight woods and river bottom trails, small hills and dry creek beds to explore. The property has a large and flat staging area with a vault toilet and signage marking the trails. The trails are open year-round but can get very muddy during and after wet weather, and make take a few days to dry out. Permit Required? Climate Type Miles Long Dates Open Entry Fee? The trails consist mainly of dirt and rock and wind with the flow of the land through the trees and along the shores of Rathbun Lake. Park amenities include a vault toilet, two shelters with picnic tables, an unloading/loading dock, and a water faucet that is available April through November. Permit Required? For current park status check the Iowa DNR Web page River Ridge Trails (Spragueville, IA) (563-357-3784) Located at the beautiful Whispering Meadows Resort, this brand new park has about 10 miles of woods trails that border the scenic Maquoketa River with future plans to include adding more ATV trails. The property also offers cabin rentals, electric hookups for RVs, mountain bike and hiking trails and fishing holes River Valley OHV Park (Council Bluffs, IA) (402-478-8701) Open daily from 7am to dusk, this 300 acre park sits on the banks of the Missouri River. Terrain mainly consists of loose dirt and sandy ATV trails with some whoops and several small sand hills.
