President’s Report
Contents
Greetings, Fellow Goodyear Ski Club Members! Unfortunately, ski
season is pretty much over. Our last trip returned from Banff on
March 12, and we bid farewell to another great year of skiing. I hope
everyone was able to get out and enjoy themselves. I know we didn’t
get the level of snow we’ve been accustomed to in our part of the
U.S., but out West they had a banner year. As I write this, Park City
in particular, is expecting another foot of snow. So, anyone who can
get on a plane and chase the remnants of winter, now’s your chance!
President’s Report . . . . . . . 1
Speaking of the trip to Banff, I can only say … ”Wow”!! I had been
told it was a super place, but I wasn’t expecting it to be that super. I
don’t want to take away from Bill Nappi’s recap later in this
newsletter, but it was a really great trip. The town of Banff has
everything you could ever want within a 15 minute walk (max) from
the Ptarmigan Hotel. The shuttle system to and from the slopes was
extremely well organized and made the rides seem shorter than they
really were: 20 minutes to Sunshine Village and 45 to Lake Louise.
As usual, Bill did a great job organizing the trip. And to my
knowledge, no one got hurt or lost their luggage. Overall, I’d have to
say it was the best trip I’ve ever been on.
As everyone knows, the month of April will bring elections for open
officer positions. President, Secretary, Officer in Charge of Trips, and
Officer in Charge of Marketing will all be available. At the March
meeting, Jim Kovach accepted the nomination for Officer in Charge of
Trips. The other three open positions did not garner any acceptances,
but there are a few people who are taking them under consideration.
We will re-open the nomination process before the general election at
the April 12 meeting. I cannot stress strongly enough how important
it is for Club members to step up and volunteer for these open
positions. In order for the Club to survive, it has to have members
who will help run the day-to-day operations. Please consider helping
out. As I’ve stated before, current or outgoing Board members will
help any novices through the process. It looks entirely more daunting
to be an officer than it really is. We will gladly help with the
transition.

Thanks to Our Volunteers
April is National Volunteer Month, so on behalf of the Board members, I would like to take this opportunity
to thank our wonderful volunteers for all the work they do. Whether you helped with the Swap Shop or the
Open House, or if you led a ski trip or coordinated an event, or if you whipped up a batch of chili for the
cook-off, we want you to know it was very much appreciated. We couldn’t do it without you!
We are always looking for new ideas for events, so if you have a suggestion, please let us know.

TRIPS
 Jan 2017 – Looking at Madonna di Campiglio in the Dolomites of northeastern Italy or perhaps
Chamonix, where you can ski Italy, France, and Switzerland.
 March 2017 – Looking at Telluride; there are very good prices and ground packages—the lowest in
four years. CMSC hasn’t been there in ten years.
 2018 – Japan. Curtis Bell will be meeting with several tour companies that run Japan trips. He is
planning for 2018 to allow enough time to work out all the travel details and to allow participants
plenty of time to prepare for such a trip.
Marketing Report — Rita Tinker
MERCHANDISE
 SALE ITEMS IN STOCK: Ski pole flags $3.50; Skier Pins $4.00
 NOTE: You can have a GSC logo (Freagle $10.00; Skier $7.50) embroidered onto your own item of
clothing. The cost for a larger size logo would be extra; cost is driven by the number of stitches.

A Message from Teresa Gifford
As this year's ski season comes to an end, I just want to thank the Board members for organizing two
fabulous week-long trips to Winter Park and Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine Village. I had the opportunity
to go on both of these excursions, and they were absolutely wonderful. I want to also add that GSC
had a number of members from various other clubs within CMSC who attended the Banff trip, and they
all mentioned what a great time it was and that the members of the Goodyear Ski Club were so
friendly and welcoming to all of them.
The two day trips to Holiday Valley and Holimont were also great fun. I hope that next year's season
will be just as exciting, if not better! Our club, like all clubs, thrives on the members who are dedicated
and take the time to help plan and run fun events and trips. It takes a lot of teamwork and effort to
organize these events, and I just wanted to say thank you. 

Banff, Alberta
March 5-12, 2016
The trip was a great success with no luggage or ski equipment missing our connections. Thanks to Greg
Dyer for bird-dogging one of the split flights. The return was much simpler with only one flight. The only
complication was the presence of four stowaways on our charter bus to the airport.
Danny, Bernice, Dave, and Daina at Wild Bill’s
Tuesday at the Balkan
On our first night in Banff, we enjoyed a
welcome party at our hotel, the Ptarmigan
Inn. The hotel restaurant had prepared
pizza, wings, cheese and cracker trays and
adult beverages. We were greeted by
representatives from Ski Big 3 who gave
presentations, took the time to answer all of
our questions and handed out prizes: John
Vorhies and Daina Worcester won cowboy
hats, Suzanne Nappi won a Banff Christmas
ornament, Judy Ripple and Lisa Scheetz won
Banff T-shirts. The table of Chris and Teresa
Gifford, Lisa and Deborah Scheetz, Karen
Trace, Mike Houska and Danny Cole received
free passes to Wild Bill’s Legendary Saloon,
where they celebrated into the wee hours of
the night.
Warren dancing with Hala Jamal
The Balkan Restaurant features belly dancing along with Greek dancing and plate smashing as
entertainment on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Ripples, Bekes, Wises and Nappis were very entertained
on Tuesday evening, as Warren was a good sport and participated in the dancing.
Karen Trace was very concerned about her lost driver license. Herta Schwaiger told her that “miracles can
happen”, and within moments, Karen found her license — right where she had looked numerous times.
8
Mike Houska and Danny Cole had their own version
of three-legged X-Games skiing when they dropped
one ski and one pole from the chair lift. Kim Vorhies
often played the role of sweeper just in case of
miscues on the slopes. Much appreciated, Kim!
John & Kim
Our mid-week party was at the Old Spaghetti Factory
on Wednesday. Everyone got to select an entree
from the all-inclusive menu and two adult beverages.
Thanks to Randy Grether for putting together a Banff
DVD from the Club’s 1995 trip. We couldn’t view the
DVD on the bus since Canadian DVD players use a
different format. However, Randy’s efforts were on
auto replay at the mid-week party using Norbert’s
laptop. Great visual effects and sound tracks!! It is
apparent from the signage and chair lifts that there
have been several upgrades over the past 20 years.
This year there was only one deer sighted walking
down a side street in town, but no rams.
Gary and Pat Robinson, Frank and Linda Yelinek, Ken
Neff and Rita Tinker showed they were big fans of
the St. James’s Gate Olde Irish Pub through frequent
dining. They highly recommend a happy ending of
“Warm Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake”.
The Banff Upper Hot Springs was a popular place to
visit après ski or on a day off. Those so inclined
include Dave Gross, Bernice Poduch, Rick Beagle,
Nobert Majerus and Greg Dyer. Kim Price, Allie
Zabrosky, Rick Beagle and Doug Bush made frequent
use of the hot tub at our hotel to relax their ski
muscles.
Gary & Pat, Ken & Rita, Linda & Frank
Sandra Colombi, Barb Tackas, Mary Bailin, Doug
Bush and Allie Zabrosky traveled to Lake Louise on
March 9. While Sandra, Barb and Mary toured the
Fairmont Chateau, Doug and Allie snowshoed Mt.
Baldwin. On his day off, Greg Dyer joined with five
Stark County skiers to ski at Kicking Horse.
Lothar and Helga Beke and Les and Betty Wise spent
their last day of skiing suspended on a Lake Louise
chair lift for 45 minutes during a power outage. At
least Helga cashed in on a “free” ski top from the
ordeal.
There were a few of us who remained in our rooms
for a couple of days due to the 24 hour cold/flu. The
good news is that there were no injuries!!
