Cursillo was brought from Spain to the United States in 1962. The weekend is conducted by a team of laypeople and clergy who deliver organized talks and discussions. What the presenters add to the talks is the witness of their own lives, their struggles and triumphs in Christ. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great music, wonderful meals and so much more. The next men’s Cursillo weekend is being held April 21-24, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT. I was infor med that it has been near ly twenty year s since the walls have been painted. That might be only the most obvious improvement. To address this situation and to hear and welcome other ideas on how we as a parish can continue to improve I am calling a General Parish Meeting on Sunday, May 15 at 1:30 in the church hall. We need to talk together and listen to one another. St. Roch’s is a really good parish but it needs to be the cooperative effort of the whole community for us to continue in this way. Please put an hour aside on that afternoon and join me in this important venture. The worship of God is at the center of who we are. The environment in which this worship happens must be the best we can offer. You also may have noticed that we have taken two half pews out at the divide on the right hand side. This is to accommodate those with wheelchairs and walkers. Of course all are welcome here and this minor alteration will make it much more comfortable for those with mobility challenges. Some of the old tiles had to be replaced but it was impossible to find the nine inch square tiles anywhere. A whole set of new tiles has to be laid down. I wonder how the tiles are throughout the seating area? I daily give thanks to God for our custodian Doug Cadarette who is greatly dedicated to the care of the church and our property. He sees it as much more than a job. “It’s my vocation,” he says. Earl Cote is always right there to help with the knowledge of the history of what’s happened over his twenty plus years here. The kinds of projects that we are talking about are more than they can handle. How good it was to see Marty Stoltz organize his junior high students and their parents and also Robert & Patty Bombard refurbish several of the rooms in the Parish Center. This willingness to roll up your sleeves and make a gift of a few hours and some skill is so much needed if we are to be a community of faith, friends and family that we can all be proud of. We need to see a good turn out for the General Parish Meeting on the 15th of May. Let us continue to love and pray for one another, Fr. Roy 3 The Church of Saint Roch, Oxford, MA THE THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER Thanks to all our parishioners who have made their gift to the 2016 Partners in Charity Appeal. St. Roch is 46% towards our goal of $42,000. If you have not yet made a gift or pledge, please fill out a commitment pledge envelope located in the pews. Or visit www.partners-charity.net. Partners in Charity, formerly known as the Bishop’s Fund, is the Annual Appeal for the Diocese of Worcester, serving 30 charitable, educational, and pastoral ministries. Through your generous support we are able to serve thousands of families and individuals in Worcester County through outreach, formation, evangelization, and worship. Thank you! To Ministry As a parish family we are truly blessed by the work of each member. We are Called to be Church and to respond as did our Mother Mary. “Do Whatever He tells you.” Are you the one who is called to be an altar server? A greeter or usher? A reader? A catechist or aide? Answer today “I will be the one!” Call the rectory office at 508-987-8987. Pro-Life Ministry Chairman Paul Fitzpatrick is looking for new members. Next Meeting: Wednesday, Apr il 20th at 6:30 PM at St. Ann’s Church. You are all invited and needed. We have a significant need for greeters at the 11:00 Sunday Mass. Would you like to answer that call? Our Pro-Life Ministry at St. Roch’s is for everyone— younger and older members join together with St. Ann’s Church in North Oxford. Let’s see how we can help the larger community of Oxford respect life from the moment of conception to natural death. Bible Study The Oxford Ecumenical Food Shelf would like to give A Big Thank You to all the people who helped out with the distribution of food during the five Thursdays of March. That’s a big commitment! The volunteers bring a wonderful spirit to those times. Also, the Food Shelf is looking especially for jelly during the next couple of months. They will continue to give extra peanut butter & jelly and healthy snacks for the Summer Food Program for families with school aged children again this year. Thank you! Wednesday morning Bible Study in the Parish Center 9:30 AM. All are welcome. Year of Mercy Donation Drives During the month of April our thoughts go to those in need. The St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsoring a Mother’s Day Drive to let mothers who are experiencing hard times know that they are not forgotten. We ask that you purchase personal care items for women. These items will be packaged and given to a mother at the Veteran’s Shelter, New Hope Woman’s Shelter, and PIP Shelter. We feel that all mothers should be remembered in a special way. Some personal care items might include shampoo, body sprays, lotions, emery boards, razors, toothpaste, floss, toothbrushes, makeup, powder, etc. Drop off bins will be located by the entrance doors of the church. Festival Meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 26th at 6:00 PM in the Par ish Center . St. Vincent de Paul Society will meet on Tuesday, May 3rd at 7:00 PM in the Chur ch Hall. Jesus, the Divine Mercy Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday, May 18th at 7:00 PM in the r ector y. This week’s quote is from a homily given by the Holy Father Pope Francis: Struggling In Your Marriage? You Are Not Alone! If your marriage is tearing the two of you apart, if there is little or no meaningful communication, if you are considering separation or divorce, we believe Retrouvaille can help. You are NOT alone! Our peer ministry is led by couples who have lived through the honeymoon phase often followed by deep disillusionment before finally finding resurrection in their marriages using the tools taught in this program. Rediscover a loving marriage with a Retrouvaille (pronounced re-trovy) weekend. The upcoming New England Retrouvaille marriage renewal weekends in 2016 will be held on: April 8-10 and Sept. 16-18, 2016. To r egister for the weekend or for more information, call 1-800-470-2230 or visit www.HelpOurMarriage.com. “It is not easy to entrust oneself to God's mercy, because it is an abyss beyond our comprehension. But we must! ... "Oh, I am a great sinner!" "All the better! Go to Jesus: He likes you to tell him these things!" He forgets, He has a very special capacity for forgetting. He forgets, He kisses you, He embraces you and He simply says to you: "Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more" (Jn 8:11). — Homily from March 17, 2013 Recently, I was conducting a wake service prepared to speak about Divine Mercy. And as I entered the funeral home I was greeted with a number of State Police Officers attending this service. I thought to myself “How odd, when I am in great need and must call the police for help, it is justice I demand”. You see it is Jesus who is the just judge, when we pass from this world to the other. Just as in American courts of law we are judged by a jury of our peers, so are we judged in heaven. It is Jesus who judges us, not the father; Jesus, fully human lived a life like most of us. Yet when we stand before this court, is it justice that we will cry out for? Mercy is what I would cry for and I will cry out for mercy for all mankind. It is not easy to see our sin in its’ true form, laid out for all to see, then to trust in our creator to be merciful. Think about the worst thing you have ever done to someone, now times that by 100 and let’s say you did this thing even though you knew it would tear that person apart inside and you did it anyway. Now go ask that person for mercy, for forgiveness. How would that go? That is what Jesus is asking of us: to trust that he loves us so much that his mercy prevails over a just judgment. In our own lives we have the ability to show mercy to those who have hurt us, we might be justified in our actions but don’t we owe it to Jesus to attempt mercy and reconcile the relationship? 334 CLUB WINNERS — Week 19 # 134 Bonnie Luks # 557 Brian Bergeron # 357 Albert Groleau # 278 Clare Cahill CONGRATULATIONS !!!
