State issued Photo ID is required for entrance into the CDC. Passport is required for international students. The CDC is a working government agency; the Museum is the only part of the agency open to visitors. The tour will last 1 ½ including walking time. While there are many more housing options than included here, this is a select list of popular apartment communities and neighborhoods near Emory University to help you make an informed decision regarding your own housing in Atlanta. Please note that the rent prices included in this guide are subject to change and should be used only as an estimate. If you are interested in subletting from a current student, please contact that person directly using the information provided at the end of this guide. Contents: Map and descriptions of select Atlanta neighborhoods Popular student apartment communities Housing statistics from 2013-2014 students Favorite things about Atlanta Neighborhoods Near Rollins School of Public Health Atlanta is comprised of different neighborhoods, each with a unique atmosphere and culture. The map below highlights a few. This map is available through ProMove (http://blog.promove.com/atlanta/atlanta-neighborhood/) Druid Hills (5-10 minutes from campus): Emory is located in the Druid Hills neighborhood. This area is mainly residential with several large gated apartment complexes and some duplexes in which students live. Decatur (10-15 minutes from campus): This “small town” is located 10-15 minutes away from Emory. Downtown Decatur has restaurants, bars, and boutiques that Emory students frequent. Most students who live in Decatur rent duplexes or houses. Neighborhoods Near Rollins School of Public Health (continued) Morningside/Virginia-Highland (10-15 minutes from campus): At the center of the Morningside/Virginia-Highland neighborhoods is North Highland Ave, a trendy street with a lot of bars and restaurants. Many young people live in this area in one of a few large apartment complexes, small older apartment buildings, or in duplexes and houses for rent. Candler Park/Inman Park (10-15 minutes from campus): These artsy neighborhoods have houses and small apartments for rent. Located between these two neighborhoods is the Little Five Points district, with restaurants, hipster bars, and secondhand shops. Midtown (20 minutes from campus): Midtown consists of mostly high-rise living or duplexes near Piedmont Park - a large park located close to downtown with biking and walking trails and a lot of open green space. The main drag in Atlanta, Peachtree Road, runs through Midtown, and there are bars and clubs along both Peachtree Street and nearby Crescent Avenue. Buckhead (20-25 minutes from campus): Buckhead is Atlanta’s main shopping district and most ritzy neighborhood. Many new college graduates live in one of the many large apartment complexes near Lenox or Phipps Malls. Campus Crossings Campus Crossings is located in the Emory area along Briarcliff Road, approximately one mile from RSPH. The complex offers fully furnished apartments, roommate matching, mostly graduate student residents, and a Kroger grocery store 0.2 miles away. Campus Crossings is located along Cliff Shuttle route B. “Campus Crossings is a good place for your first year when you are getting used to things and if you want be close to campus. It's not the cheapest, but you pay for the convenience to campus and it's fully furnished.” Amenities: clubhouse, swimming pool, recreational areas, fitness facilities, washer and dryer in every apartment, secure access community Rent: Available in 1bed/1bath, 2bed/2bath, 3bed/3bath -- $635 - $1,120 (by the bed leasing) - Rent includes: high speed internet, water & trash Contact Information: P: 888-572-4079 Website: http://www.campusapts.com/briarcliff/ Post Briarcliff Post Briarcliff is located on LaVista Road in the Druid Hills neighborhood, 2.2 miles away from RSPH, and is on the Cliff Shuttle line. Graduate student friendly, close to Rollins, and less than 1 mile from Toco Hills and Whole Foods. “I lived in Post Briarcliff last year and loved it. This complex is on the Cliff Shuttle line, 1.3 miles from RSPH, and walking distance from Publix supermarket, as well as several restaurants/coffee shops. President Park offers furnished rooms available for extra charge. "I love living at President Park because of its convenience and price. It is close to campus, grocery stores, coffee shops and restaurants. The management is great. RSPH is within walking distance, and there are shuttles to main campus and grocery stores. The complex is also close to Lullwater Park and Toco Hills. “Highland Lake Apartments is a good place for first year graduate students when you don’t have a car and want to be close to campus. Atlanta Housing & Living Survey Current Rollins students were surveyed to find out about their housing experiences. Over 250 students responded. Questions were asked about everything from their number of roommates to how much they paid for rent. Their responses were used to create the following charts and provide YOU with more insight about living in Atlanta. What type of housing do Rollins students live in? Atlanta offers several housing style options. The majority of Rollins students stay in apartments but some also live in rented homes, townhouses, and condos. 3 roommates, 4.81% 2 roommates, 17.41% 1 roommate, 47.41% Duplex, 3.70% Other, 6.67% House , 18.52% Apartment, 71.11% 4 or more, 2.59% Do Rollins students live with roommates? None, 27.78% Why yes they do! While most Rollins students have at least one roommate, some also choose to stay alone. Other, 3.33% How much do Rollins students pay for rent? Rent prices in Atlanta vary based on the location and type of housing. Majority of students at Rollins pay $501-$600 or $601-700 for rent per month. "I find my rent affordable." Yes they do! Most students agreed that their rent was affordable and only a small number of students thought they could not afford their current rent price. How do Rollins students find housing? Besides this fabulous housing guide, there are plenty of ways to start the housing search. No matter where you choose to stay, you want to make sure you can get to the most important place in Atlanta…Rollins! Many students utilize the (free!) Emory Cliff Shuttle students, and many drive to school. Some students use Atlanta’s public transportation system, MARTA.
