Music Studies
From Equinox Publishing
Journal of World
Popular Music
Journal of World Popular Music is
a peer-reviewed academic journal
that provides a forum to explore the
manifestations and impacts of postglobalizing trends, processes, and
dynamics surrounding international
popular musics today. It adopts an
open-minded perspective, including in
its scope any local popularized musics
of the world, commercially available
music of non-Western origin, musics
of ethnic minorities, and contemporary
collaborations of local ‘traditional’
musics with Western pop and rock.
The journal will be published twice per
year, commencing in June 2014.
www.equinoxpub.com/JWPM
Journal of Film Music

from the standpoint of dramatic musical art.
www.equinoxpub.com/JFM
Perfect Beat
Focuses on the popular music of the
“Pacific rim” and includes both historical
and contemporary studies.
www.equinoxpub.com/PB
Jazz Research Journal
Represents a range of disciplinary
perspectives on jazz, and offers a platform
for new thinking.
www.equinoxpub.com/JAZZ
Popular Music History
Challenges established orthodoxies in

Edited by Herbert Schneider
1. Section: Sources for Music Theory
and Historical Reference Works
100 titles, ca. 100.000 pp. with new introductions. E-Books (PDF).
Olms online Musicology makes available
a basic library of musicology, with many
sources for music theory, historical reference works, and editions of important
historical song collections published by
Olms.
In thematic terms, the theory, aesthetics
and psychology of music, alongside dictionaries, periodicals, and catalogues of
works will form the major areas of interest,
on the basis of the publications here initially selected.
Each edition shows the work in its original print image and allows for an unrestricted full-text-search at the same time.
The new introductions include information about the author, the work’s significance and influence in its own time, the
history of its writing and publication, its
reception and its influence in other countries, for example through translation.

The Story of Opera explores the centuries-old tradition of
opera through the stories it tells—from ancient myths
to ordinary people caught up in great events. From the

and enduring appeal, from the sixteenth century to the present.

I. Introduction to Contemporary Performance Practice
June 9–13, 2014
II. Introduction to Gregorian Semiology and the
New Science of Gregorian Modality June 16–20, 2014
“Fr. Stephen’s passion for the subject is contagious, and through an
engaging teaching style, he was quickly able to help my 21st century students
appreciate the craft, beauty and relevance of these ancient chants.”
Dr. Christopher Kiver, Director of Choral Activities, Penn State University
“The Workshop (2011) provided me with a new perspective into text and melodic
interpretation based on newer research utilizing original chant notation.”
Dr. Michael Bray, Director of Choral Activities, Thiel College
“Fr. Stephen is a wonderful, knowledgeable teacher, and the course content
of his Chant Workshop (2012) had just the right combination of the
academic and the aesthetic. I highly recommend it.”
Dr. Regina Gordon, Director of Vocal Ensembles, Immaculata University
“Fr. Concordia’s mastery of and love for the subject was evident from the first
session (2013), as was his first-rate teaching style, which enabled both amateur
and professional to remain engaged and challenged throughout the week. The dual
emphasis on scholarship and practical application is, in my opinion, the perfect
way to teach Gregorian Chant.”
