FIRM
®
Accredited Management Organization®
AUGUST 2013
MAKE THE LEAP FROM GREAT TO ELITE WITH
THE AMO® DESIGNATION
The Accredited Management Organization accreditation is the
only recognition of excellence given to real estate management firms,
and the requirements are now more relevant than ever to real estate
managers, their clients, and the assets they manage. To earn the AMO®
accreditation, real estate management firms must now meet even more
standards and abide by a new AMO® Code of Professional Ethics - all
based on Best Practices: Real Estate Management Service. These best
practices provide a reasonable framework for the professional delivery of
real estate management services meaning AMO® Firms can demonstrate
to investors and clients that they don’t just meet the industry standards...
they set them.
Join the 537 AMO® firms, with more than 1,100 offices worldwide, that
hold this distinguished accreditation. Being an AMO® now means more
than ever.

AUGUST 2013
IREM Michigan Chapter 5 SPECIAL Incentive Program for 2013
The Institute of Real Estate Management, Michigan Chapter 5, is once
again launching their Industry Partner Referral Progam. This program is
another way to help recognize and promote the exceptional services of
our Industry Partners.
Members who support the chapter’s Industry Partners (IP) through
requests for bids, quotes or actual work on their properties will be entered
into a drawing. The up-to-date Industry Partner Directory is located on
pages 11-13 of this newsletter as well as on the chapter website at www.
iremmi5.org. Industry Partners must notify the chapter of their contact
with the member and for the service(s) requested by emailing info@
iremmi5.org. A random drawing will take place at the Chapter’s Annual
Inaugural on December 6, 2013 and the winner will be awarded the Grand Prize of a $500 Gift Card. The
more entries you have the better chance of winning!
Your IREM chapter continually encourages members to call on all of the Industry Partners when they
need a quote for services.
UPCOMING WEBINARS FROM IREM:
YOUR CAREER PARTNER
The third in a series on leadership, this webinar
will explain how property managers can become
effective communicators and better leaders. Join
Ron Gjerde, IREM Vice President, Knowledge
Center, as he discusses:
• The three basic rules for making any
communication more effective
• How to craft the message to achieve your
communication objectives
• Communication barriers to avoid
AUGUST 2013
As a result, the same message can have a different
meaning to different people. Have you ever sat in
a meeting and then talked to someone afterwards
who had an entirely different interpretation of
what happened in the same meeting?
The average building in the United States is
over forty years old and is less than 50,000
square feet. While many newer, larger,
upscale buildings have made recent strides
to improve efficiency in recent years, the
biggest opportunities lie in smaller buildings.

Leadership Development - Effective
Communication
Date: Wednesday, August 14, 2013
Time: 3:00 p.m. ET
Duration: 60 minutes
Price: Free to members; $35 non-members
Property Types: All
The most common competency listed for virtually
all job descriptions is good communication. It’s
not surprising, then, to find that is was ranked
the second most important competency for real
estate management professionals. While the
ability to effectively communicate with others
is critically important, it is one of the toughest
skills to master—especially since the meaning of
any communication is determined by the person
receiving it and not the person giving it.
Greening Smaller Buildings
Date: Tuesday, August 20, 2013
Time: 3:00 p.m. ET
Duration: 60 minutes
Price: Free to members; $35 non-members
