GOLF Congratulations to the 50 children who represented the Buninyong Primary at the District Golf Championships on Monday. They braved some wintry conditions and play some great golf throughout the day. We wish Emily Giles (3rd), Bridget Angee (2nd), Joel Smith (6th), Riley McCarthy (5th) all the best as they have qualified for the next level. Also a big thank you to all the parents who helped on the day to walk around the course with the children. Mr O’Kelly Mathletics High Achievers! Congratulations Lucy Richardson and Thomas Wardle on receiving “High Achievement” awards on Mathletics. These awards are issued by CEO of Mathletics Tim Power and are for students who demonstrate answering the most questions accurately on ‘Live Mathletics.’ Well done Lucy and Thomas on your efforts! RESPECT OPTIMISM COMMITMENT COMPASSION HONESTY CONCERT Excitement is building with the concert, ‘Come Fly With Me’ is just a week and a half away. Ticket sales for both evening concerts are going very well. As of Tuesday this week there were just 126 tickets left for the Thursday night performance and 49 for the Friday night performance. Please make sure you have purchased the 4 tickets reserved for your family by the end of this week, because on August 18th, parents will be able to go back online and purchase additional tickets. Through this process we will have given all families the opportunity to purchase up to 4 tickets and then will sell what’s left to those who would like more to ensure there is a full house at both concerts. Throughout the day on Thursday (Aug 21) we have a full dress rehearsal which will start at 10:30am. Students will be bussed to the rehearsal in waves starting at 10am and bussed home at around 2:30-3pm. Where possible, we’d certainly like students to attend both evening concerts. If you need help with arrangements to make this possible, talk to your child’s teacher. We understand that some parents will be dropping off and leaving their child/ren at one of the evening concerts. There will be staff members in fluro vests at the roundabout outside the hall entrance ready to meet these children and escort them back stage to join the rest of their class. This means it is very easy for you to drop your child off (without having to find a park) knowing that there will be someone there to take care of them. We also understand there will be situations where parents will want to, or will need to, collect children before the end of one or both concerts. Parents can arrange for this to take place. Just speak to your child’s teacher closer to the concert. Mind you, most children will be enjoying the social occasion and will want to stay, especially since the final act involves all students. We expect the evening concert to finish at around 9:15 - 9:30pm and we will be asking parents to collect their children from their change rooms. The locations of these change rooms will be indicated on a map of Founders Hall which will feature on the concert program. Programs will be available for purchase at the concert. We will also have plenty of signage in the venue foyer to help guests find their way round. Class teachers are preparing a note to go home with details regarding your child’s act and information you need to know…please keep an eye out for that. There will be a DVD of the concert available after the concert. We are having the concert professionally recorded and expect to have a quality product for parents to purchase. We are also planning to have professionally taken group photos that will also be available for purchase. Please keep your eye on the newsletters following the concert for details regarding DVDs and group photos. In next week’s newsletter we will have a plan of Federation University to help parents understand where they can park, where they can drop off students and how to find their way from the car park to the Founders Hall (Caro Convention Centre). RESPECT OPTIMISM COMMITMENT COMPASSION HONESTY SCOTSBURN NEWS Rosemary’s Farewell As has become the tradition at Scotsburn, a large number of families came out last Friday night for Rosemary’s farewell dinner. A great night was had by all, especially Rosemary. Well done to Freya Wallis, Toby Bilston, Alyssa Warner and Claire Plier for doing such a great job wishing Rosemary well on behalf of the students. Thank you also to Gareth Smith for his kind words on behalf of the community. We look forward to Rosemary dropping in from time to time and wish her well in retirement. the upcoming semi-finals. Special thanks to Natasha Adam for volunteering so much of her time to ensure the students are well prepared. Story of Buninyong This week, our Grade 4 students commenced rehearsals for the Story of Buninyong performance that will take place in early term 4. Special thanks to Miranda Donald for her commitment and hard work in preparing the students. No doubt, the performance will again be brilliant. Friendship chair Parent Meeting A parent meeting will be in the old building at 8.15am this Thursday 14th. All welcome. New Garden Bed Last week, the staff and students planted out the garden bed at the front of the Prep/1 classroom. I’m sure you will all agree that it looks great! 2015 Enrolments Don’t forget to get your enrolment forms into the school office as soon as you can. The earlier it is done, the sooner we can begin planning for 2015. Last week, Shane our maintenance man built a new chair for us at Scotsburn. The chair will be a ‘Friendship Chair’ or ‘Buddy Stop’ for any students who are looking for someone to play with. If any parents have some artistic flair and would like to come in and sketch a design for the students to then decorate, please let Shaun know. Thank you again to Shane for doing such a brilliant job. Due to incredible interest and high calibre applicants, another Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) class is opening up at Mount Clear College for Year 7 students in 2015. For 2015 we are offering 4 SEALP scholarships which includes an iPad and tuition fees. The SEAL Program offers places to students with exceptional academic ability. It supports a learning environment that allows students to fulfil their academic and social potential. The SEAL Program provides: An accelerated learning program. Opportunities to work with more complex and more abstract course material. A more challenging learning environment with an emphasis on higher order thinking, independent learning and research skills. Opportunities to work co-operatively with like-minded peers of similar abilities, interests and talents. Language specialisation in Japanese or Chinese that leads to a 6 week international immersion experience, in the 3rd year. A flexible program allowing individual acceleration in each student’s area of strength. Options available for students after the three year SEAL Program include: Completing a three year VCE with extra units. Completing a three year VCE combined with university enhancement courses. Completing a two year VCE. A curriculum program which employs iPad technology to enhance learning. Grade 6 Buninyong PS students who have indicated they are attending Mt Clear College in 2015 will receive a flyer with full details this week. Friendship Seat As a follow up of our successful Bully Stopper Day, International Friendship Day and encouraging our students to look out for each other, the Student Wellbeing team have initiated a Buddy Bus Stop, both at Scotsburn and Buninyong Campuses. The purpose is to encourage students that sometimes may feel left out or lonely at playtimes to use the seat and Buddies would be there to help those children feel happier. It will be the responsibility of the ABC Kids of the Week to keep an eye on this space and befriend those students seated there. The ABC Kid may include the student by striking up a conversation, teaching them a new game, skill or even just including everyone in an existing game. Please talk to your child about how they may be able to befriend others and how this will make them feel as well. It will also be a great central meeting place for students or even parents to collect their children. A big thank you to Mr Shane Pearce who has built the seats and Mrs Noyce’s Art monitors whom are painting the seats to showcase this facility. Keep your eyes open on the progress!
