Why we’re here:
To obtain approval in principle, at a preliminary stage, on the
proposal for additional height allowance necessary to create
an addition to the 22nd floor of the Westin Hotel.

Recommendation
That additional height be approved for an addition to the 22nd floor of the Westin
Hotel such that the new top of parapet height will be +131.400 m above sea level,
with top of associated stair roof parapet at +134.100 m, be approved in principle
subject to a more detailed plan, and:
• That NCC staff continue to work with the Westin to refine the design of the
addition in order to bring it forward for final federal approval
• That the Westin engage NCC review and approval on any future revision to their
exterior building signage
• That the Westin work with lessees of existing and future rooftop equipment to
mitigate visual impact on the core of the National Capital
• That the final design will require approval by the NCC Board of Directors.
• That the NCC will notify the City of Ottawa that it does not object to the Official
Plan Zoning By-law amendment, but requests that the zoning be issued with a
Holding Provision under the Planning Act of Ontario which requires the final
approval of the NCC Board of Directors.
