T h e C ar d i C l ip p er HOT DAY – COOL ACTIVITIES A Message from our President The Cardi club’s summer triple feature was held at the Davidsonville Recreation Center on July 19. Mary Munro supervised the photography contest with an able assist from Angie Tirdil. Photographs were entered in the categories of action, portrait, puppy, comedy, and general. The overall winning photo was a winter scene of a Cardi leaping above the snow drifts. The contest raised $63 for the club. Marsha Stepowany has volunteered to organize the photos for this year’s calendar, which will be available at our Specialty in October. Our feature presentation was an excellent grooming demo from Kim Moshlak. After discussing techniques for ear, eye, and teeth cleaning, she gave an overview of the tools of the grooming trade. In addition to tools for hair removal and nail trimming, the grooming bag should also include peanut butter. Who knew? After a short break two Cardis “volunteered” to have their nails trimmed. For those of us who tend to avoid nail trimming because it is sometimes an ordeal, it was good to learn a few techniques to make the job easier and more pleasant for dog and handler. Contestants hurry in the ball and spoon race. After a brief general meeting and discussion of the low attendance at recent Cardi events, it was time for the Games. Several Cardis and their handlers braved the heat to participate in the tee shirt race and the ball and spoon competition. Spin the Bottle was held indoors, and spectators and owners enjoyed the fun and challenges of putting the dogs through their paces. Shirley Hobbs prepared a delicious lunch which included pulled pork and homemade potato salad, cole slaw, and a dessert cake. Bev and Irv Jackson’s VIXEN rests after winning the T-Shirt race. T h e C ar d i C l ip p er The Board will be meeting on September 12 to plan events for the coming year. This will include a discussion of increasing attendance at future activities. As always, members’ input is sincerely welcomed. Please contact one of us prior to the meeting. Hug Those Cardis!
