A PRIL 1, 2015
Dear Parents,
“One of you will betray me….
The cock will not crow before you will deny me three times.” John 13: 21, 38
I hope you are having a Blessed Holy Week. As we approach Good Friday, we consider the relationship that
each of the Disciples had with Jesus as he approached his crucifixion. Judas berated him, Peter denied him
and John remained a true believer and loyal follower in Christ.
As members of this Catholic community, we spend this week continuing to work in our classrooms, on our
homework and on all of the demands that are very real for us in our lives. We also look forward with great
anticipation towards Spring Break. Spring Break will be a time to refresh and recharge our batteries for the
final stretch of the school year.
However, let us remember as our Lenten journey comes to a close that Christ’s suffering and eventual death
on the cross is because of our sinfulness. Let us reflect on the times we are Judas the betrayer and Peter,
choosing not believe. It is John, who we strive to be every day in our lives. The true follower of Christ.
Have a Blessed last few days of Lent and a joyous Easter as we celebrate the rising of our Savior.
God bless,
Mr. Krienke

Snow Days, Heat Index Days and Early Closure
In the event that schools are closed for the day due to
weather conditions, every effort will be made to contact parents/guardians personally. This is one reason
why it is important to inform the school immediately of
any changes in phone numbers, emergency contacts,
etc. Parents/guardians are encouraged to listen to
local radio and television stations for weather related
announcement or check online for postings. Closing
school due to severe weather conditions is coordinated
with the MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.
Catholic East Elementary School will follow the
directives on closing of the Milwaukee Public
School District (the stations/web pages will indicate “Milwaukee Public and Private Schools”) for
school closings due to extreme weather conditions.
However, Catholic East will also be published online,
as well. Stay tuned to the following radio /TV stations or go online for school closing updates:

Wellness Walk & Community Potluck Lunch
Saturday, April 18, 2015
As parents, we are always looking for fun ways to keep our kids active. With that in mind, we hope your
family will join us at this year’s Wellness Walk and Potluck Lunch on Saturday, April 18 where we can all
have fun being active with our school community.
Registration begins at 10 am at the CEE Holy Rosary Campus and the walk kicks off at 10:30 am. The walk is about
2.5 miles long. We’ll begin at the HR Campus and follow the Oak Leaf Trail to the Urban Ecology Center, then head
back to school for lunch.
As part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, our gym teacher Ms. Green will offer each scholar who participates in the
Wellness Walk a ticket for the end-of-year drawing for the autographed Green Bay Packer Eddie Lacey helmet.
We are going to continue the fun after the walk with the Community Potluck Lunch in the Holy Rosary Church Hall.
Here are the potluck assignments:
If your child is in Grades K3, 1st, 3rd or 6th, please bring a main dish
If your child is in Grades K4, 2nd, 4th or 7th please bring a side dish or salad
If your child is in Grades K5, 5th or 8th, please bring a healthy dessert
Please see the enclosed flyer for more details. You can sign-up online here to let us know you plan to attend or register at the event.
If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact Jenny Mendenhall at 414-324-1546 or
mendenall1996@gmail.com.
Thank you so much to everyone who placed orders with Market Day in March. We didn’t come close to reaching
our goal with the desserts this year, but thank you to everyone who helped by placing an order! Your April order
guide will come home this week. This month Market Day is offering a FREE bag of California Blend Veggies with
a $40 purchase, and if you order online, spend $90 and enter the online bonus code: APRBONUS you will also qualify for a FREE
bag of Chicken Gems! Plus log on to www.marketday.com to check out some super web only deals! Our pick up this month will
be on Wednesday, April 22nd from 4:15-5:15 at Holy Rosary Hall. If you find the time is a conflict but you really want to try Market Day, please let me know and we can make arrangements for a later pick up, especially those of you who use the Kids Campus
until 6:00. I am happy to deliver your order to Holy Rosary so you can get it from there. However, in order to do this your order must
be pre-paid by credit card, and you’ll have to let me know ahead of time. You may either return the paper order form to school no
later than, Thursday April 16th, or log on to www.marketday.com and place your order by 11 PM on Friday April 17th. We prefer you
use a credit card to prepay when you order online but will take checks the day of the sale (NO CASH). Some specials and clearance
items are only available online as well. Did you know that you can also purchase select Market Day products at GFS Marketplace
stores? Just give them Catholic East’s code: 5942 and we will get credit for your purchase. If you have any questions about Market
Day, please call Kathleen Galvan at 414-202-4952.
The spring concert will take place on Monday, May 11th, 2015. All students are expected to participate in the
concert, which will take place at St. Casimir Church, 2600 N. Bremen St., Milwaukee, (SAME LOCATION AS
THE CHRISTMAS CONCERT) AT 6:30 P.M. THERE WILL BE NO AFTER SCHOOL KIDS CAMPUS ON THAT
DAY AT EITHER CAMPUS! This will give our scholars time to go home, have something to eat and take a
short rest before the evening performance.
Parents/Guardians will need to bring their scholars to St. Casimir Church for the 6:30 P.M. evening performance on May 11 th. Children will report to their teachers in church, who will have assigned seating and attendance will be taken. Children will need to be in
the church at 6:15 P.M. Doors will not open until 6:00 P.M. You may drop off your child at the church entrance and then proceed to
park your car after the drop off or you may park first and bring your child in with you. There will be teachers at the front door of the
church making sure that children get into the church safely if you choose to drop off first and then park. Carpooling is encouraged as
parking is always a challenge!
Dress for the Concert: Since the theme is Vacation Bible School! We are asking that scholars wear dress up clothing.
Any color skirt, jumper or dress that is to the top of the knee. No low cut tops or dresses.
Pants may be any solid color. No sweatpants, cargo pants, jeans or shorts.

The Last 2015 Catholic East Lenten Fish Fry
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers that made our final week of the 2015 Fish Fry season
a huge success. 366 dinners were served to end our season. A huge shout out to some of our
community sponsors this year: Lakefront Brewery, Pepsico, Champions Pub and Colectivo Coffee Roasters made generous donations to our Fish Fry this year! Please consider patronizing
these places and products as a sign of our Thank You for their generosity. I'll be back after break with details on the funds raised through this fundraiser but always remember more than a fundraiser, the Catholic
East Fish Fry is a fun-raiser and a community builder that we are very proud of. May you and your family
enjoy a blessed Easter season!

CELEBRATING CATHOLIC EAST ELEMENTARY GALA
The Celebrating Catholic East Gala on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Our volunteer committee and Catholic
East staff are getting the details in place for a wonderful event. All proceeds from the event will benefit
Catholic East Elementary and our children. We invite our school families to support this event and our
school through these opportunities:

a restaurant owner willing to donate, please consider contributing to our restaurant raffle at the event.
Make a Donation to Classroom Auction Baskets
If you haven’t already contributed to the auction basket that your student’s classroom is putting together, please
do so this week. As mentioned earlier, each classroom is putting together a themed basket to be included in the
silent auction at the event.
Make a Donation to the Silent Auction
Are you a business owner, manager or employed at a business that might be interested in donating to our auction?
We’d greatly appreciate a contribution.
