Career Services held an informative and engaging assembly on Thursday morning as part of their Career Fest Week. Several Black Executive Exchange Program visiting professors, including Morris College alumni, addressed March 18, 2014 the question, “Are you ready? The question was formed from this year’s Career Fest theme: “Transitions: College to Workforce.” 7 PM The visiting professors provided practical information and guidance on how to make the transition. The Prizes and Awards Night professionals agreed that the key to a successful transition for students is to prepare now by taking advantage of Neal-Jones Auditorium every opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, valuable work experience and support from mentors. A few of the specifics shared were: be prepared for employment assessments; readily volunteer to gain skills and experience; value and guard your reputation, academic performance and your finances; be well-rounded—show March 29, 2014 concern for others through community engagement; be well-read; develop and enhance verbal skills and computer 9 AM skills. State Youth The following BEEP professionals presented at the Career Fest Assembly, Ms. Felicia Kinard, Class of 2001, inventory Convention Planning management specialist, Robbins Air Force Base; Rochelle Wadlington, Class of 2006, logistics management Meeting and specialist, Barksdale Air Force Base; Sammy Harry, Class of 2011, owner of Harry Properties LLC, Atlanta, Ga.; Yarbough Miller, Class of 2008, course instructor trainee with Army Logistics College of Professional and Continuing Youth Pageant Neal-Jones Auditorium Education; Ella DuBose, coordinator for the Office of Administrative Services for the Human Resources Consulting and Services Group; Curtis Odom, director of personnel management for the U.S. Coast Guard; Delvyn DesChamps, Greetings: Class of 2008, logistics management specialist, LaRhonda Anderson Edwards, Class of 2002, aircraft and missiles Luns C. Richardson requirement program manager, Warner Robbins Air Force Base; and Joan Pringle, Class of 2009, supervisory social 11 AM insurance specialist for the Social Security Administration. At the close of the assembly, Career Services honored Sara Sloan, flight chief at Shaw Air Force Base, with the CoEducation Hour op Employer of the Year Award. Following a question and answer period, President Luns C. Richardson commended Florence & Affiliated Margaret Bailey, coordinator of Career Services for her work on what he described as “an excellent program that Counties Baptist Union caused students to listen and think.” Vote for the college to win a campus improvement grant from Home Depot at www.retoolyourschool.com Campus Report Spring Semester- Issue Number 5 Page 2 Bishop Norris to Speak at President’s Lecture Series The Right Reverend Richard Franklin Norris, presiding bishop of the Seventh Episcopal District of AME Church of South Carolina, will speak on Thursday, March 20 at 10 a.m. for the President’s Lecture Series/Who’s Who Convocation . The convocation will honor 79 students named Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities for their academic achievement. The program will be held in the Neal-Jones Auditorium. MARK YOUR CALENDAR March 17, 2014 6 PM SGA Campaign Speeches Neal-Jones Auditorium Prizes and Awards Night Prizes and Awards Night will be held on Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in the Neal-Jones Auditorium. Students will be recognized for their achievements for the 2013-2014 academic year. Scholarship and award recipients will be announced for the 2014-2015 academic year.
