Crosswind Parents,
Let me express my appreciation for all that you have done this year for the
boys and girls at Crosswind Elementary. I am extremely proud of the manner in which our teachers have worked to ensure an excellent education for
our students. Parents and the community have worked jointly for the success
of all children.

I want to take a moment to say “Thank You” to our fifth grade parents.
While many of you will be leaving Crosswind this year, some will still have children here for the next
few years. I want the parents and children who are leaving us for the final time to know that each of you May 19
share a special place in my heart, as well as in the heart of the school. I know that when you share something this special you never really leave. Remember, our doors are always open. Please come back and

I am very excited about all the honors and awards that Crosswind received this year and all the activities
that have taken place. Our school motto has always been “Crosswind-- a place where children come

Crosswind started the year off by winning the Summer Reading Program at the Collierville Library (this was our fifth win in a row for this award).
Crosswind is named TN Reward School for 2013. ranking in the top 5% of the stat for Performance.
I encourage you to participate in the many planned end of the year events and activities. Our last day of school is Friday, May 23 (this date may change due to snow days;
the school board will vote on the issue soon). I wish all of you a safe and fun-filled
summer and look forward to seeing you on Registration day, July 29.

Message From The PTA President
CEF Bowling 2014
Eagle Parents,
It is so hard to believe that in 4 weeks we will be out of school
for the summer. Our 5th graders will be moving on to a new experience in middle school and we will welcome a new class of
Kindergarteners. WOW, where did the time go?
In April, we honored a very special group of women and men
who teach and help to raise our children every day. Teacher Appreciation Week we recognized our teachers and staff every day with small
tokens of our appreciation for all they do.
At the end of April until the beginning of May, we will have TCAP testing. If
you haven’t signed up to be a Proctor, please contact our Assistant Principal,
Chanel Sallie, at school to help. This is an important time of testing so please
make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast the next
morning, so that they will be prepared during their testing periods.
After TCAP, things will kick into high gear for the end of our school year.
There will be Summer Blast, End of the Year celebrations and the 5 th grade Luau
to conclude our school year. We still have openings on the PTA board for next
year, so if you are interested, please email me at belle2922@gmail.com.

Happy Birthday, Collierville Food Pantry! Crosswind would like to honor
the Collierville Food Pantry for their 30 year‘s of operation and dedication to
this community. I would like to thank Mrs. Donahue, the Beta Club, Morgan
Cox, and everyone who donated money, items, and their time to the NFL
(Need Food Locally) Food Pantry Drive. Crosswind raised $7,096.91 and
hundreds of canned goods. Way to go, Crosswind!! I am amazed every
month with everyone’s support and generosity. Let’s keep up the great work
by sending in your non-perishable food items or toiletries to help out those
less fortunate in our community.
Thank you for your continued support for Crosswind and your community.
Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!!

Crosswind Elementary Healthy School Team Initiatives
2013-2014
The Wellness Impact is a GENYOUth Foundation report presented in partnership with the American College of Sports
Medicine, the American School Health Association and National Dairy Council. It addresses why school wellness is more
important than ever to our students and our Nation’s future.
The report illuminates the vital importance of improved nutrition and increased physical activity in ensuring a school environment that enhances student’s readiness to learn. If you

Research indicates that cognition is impacted by the quality of
foods kids eat and by physical activity.
At Crosswind Elementary School we are committed to implement programs and provide opportunities for our students to
learn about nutrition, eat healthy foods and participate in
various physical activities.
We have community partners who have helped facilitate and
pay for some of this year’s initiatives.

Whether breakfast is eaten at home, in the cafeteria, in the
classroom or grab ‘n’ go style, students who eat breakfast…..
*are better able to learn;
*achieve higher test scores;
*are less likely to be absent from school; and
*behave better in school.
Helpful hints for parents to arm children (and
their parents) with abduction-prevention tips
and tactics:
Teach your child how to operate a trunk release handle,
found on newer automobiles.
Teach your child about altering a car's exterior for others
to notice (i.e. breaking out rear lights from the trunk).
Show your child how to quickly turn off a car and dispose of the keys.
Show your child every way you can think of to disable a
car.
Teach your child how to trip a fire alarm for help.
Teach your child about leaving a path for detection after
abduction / authorities may be able to track a child's direction.
