In each newsletter we will be promoting and sharing different ideas and thoughts from our PTA committee. In the final week we will send home a short questionnaire seeking some feedback to help our PTA re-invent itself. A special big Banks Avenue School welcome to Zak (Rm 8) and his family who joined our school community this week. PTA Events Disco At this time of year we have many children who are away with colds, coughs and the flu. Some classes have ¼ of their students away. This causes a lot of extra work in the office area if parents have not let us know that their child is away. Please ring or text in the morning if your child is absent. Our processes then allow for us to enter that information onto the digital class roll so the teacher then also becomes aware. When we haven’t heard from parents we contact them to check that their child is actually home and that they haven’t gone missing on the way to school. Some mornings we have not finished ringing those parents who have not contacted us until 10:30 – this is way too late if there has been an incident on the way to school. School contact details are at the top of each newsletter. As I have mentioned in previous newsletters our PTA is struggling to find new members and is at risk of stopping completely therefore this is the month of This Friday 12 June. Get your form/ticket & $3.00 back to the office asap. Parent helpers please ring: 021 222 6867 Family Portraits - 5 July - $10. More detailed information will come home in next week’s newsletter. This will be a great opportunity to get a gorgeous family portrait at a reasonable cost plus the PTA earns money to donate back to school activities. Jen, our PTA Chairperson, ran hip hop lessons in the last school holidays and she has offered to do so again. This is a great opportunity for both boys and girls to get some great dance lessons that in turn may just ignite a passion. Ring Jen on 022 681 5545 to book your child / children in. Food for thought We have a few children who we know are watching inappropriate videos or games–Grand Theft Auto (R18) which seems to be very popular. These games or videos often give children inappropriate ideas, language or actions. Please monitor and use discretion with children’s viewing habits. Senior Module Learning Experience Fee Students in Team Miro pay $15.00 per term and this gives them a variety of learning activities, e.g., a trip to the symphony orchestra. Families are asked to pay this fee each term. Those students who are now behind by two terms will not be participating in any other activities that have a cost associated with them until previous activities have been paid for. The Red Cross and the Warehouse We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Warehouse who gave us a great discount for the thermals we were able to buy for the children in the Junior Module. We were able to do this with some of the remaining funds from the Red Cross. We really appreciate their support of our school. School Website Next PTA meeting: Monday 29 June at 7:00pm in the staffroom All welcome Mufti Day This Friday 12 June Gold Coin Donation Theme – visa-versa This theme can be interpreted in many ways so think outside the box, e.g., clothes inside out, colour blocking, white verses black or what a young person wears verses an older person. The proceeds of this mufti day will help pay for next year’s student leaders to attend NYLD 2016. Next Tuesday we will be ready to launch our new, updated school website. This will be accessible through our old domain name - www.banksave.school.nz. This website is now fully updated and reflects our current school and students. There are many photos of children participating in a range of activities and events throughout the school. You can even leave a message on the website that will come through to the office if your child is going to be absent for the day. Log in and have a look - you'll be impressed! A big thank you to Ms Mora for all of your efforts in preparing this! Kapa haka Poi Children A reminder to the children learning the poi (boys year 5-6 and years girls 3-6) that we have a practice this Sunday 14 June from 1pm3pm in the library. We also have one coming up on Sunday 12 July from 1pm-3pm. Parent library Trip & Activity Payments We have quite a wide range of books in our parent library that parents and caregivers are able to borrow, e.g., we have a number of books about parenting and bringing up boys. Over the last two years we have added a selection of books about anxiety and developing social skills too. Some of these books have been purchased with funds from the Red Cross. We hope that you come to browse our collection of books for parents. Please see the office or Mrs Meikle in The Rae McDonald Library Information Centre (our library) for more information about how to borrow these books. Throughout the year there are a number of trips and activities that require a payment and sometimes a permission slip from parents. If you have set up an automatic payment for your family account we ask that you still complete the payment slip indicating this. Thank you. ‘HOT SHOT’ LEARNERS Lunch On-line Remember lunch on-line every Thursday. Orders must be in by 8:30am. Go to: http://www.lunchonline.co.nz/ to place your order.
