The Legendary Lotus is Among Hundreds of Cars Taking Part in Inaugural Barber Historics Event Special tickets, parking and track access available for purchase now Birmingham, Ala. (Apr 1) – When a museum hits the race track, the result is the inaugural Barber Historics event, to be held May 15-‐17 at Barber Motorsports Park. This Historic Motor Sports Association event will feature more than 250 museum quality race cars – from the earliest days of the sport through the 1980s – competing in a variety of classes based on engine size, car type and age. The event will include cars that competed in Formula One, Can Am and Trans Am events, with an emphasis on the Lotus race car. The legendary British manufacturer has been producing high-‐performance vehicles since 1952. The company states that its cars combine lightness, strength and simplicity. This marks the 50th anniversary of George Follmer driving the Lotus 23B to victory in the U.S. Road Racing Championship over the favored Chaparral team. Follmer will serve as the Grand Marshal of the Barber Historics event. There are several viewing, parking and participation options available for fans attending the event. The Motorsports Passport package costs $100 and includes a general admission ticket for all three days, onsite parking, Paddock access, a three-‐day pass to the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, a parade lap around the BMP track and a commemorative souvenir ticket. Parade-‐lap access also can be purchased on individual days for $30 each. The parade laps will be held after on-‐track activities conclude each day, with staging taking place through Gate 5 of the Paddock. Motorcycles that participate in the parade lap must be a minimum of 125 cc. For fans who are driving their own sports car to BMP, special parking is available in the Car Corral, located in Lot E. This lot is convenient to a tram stop, the Fan Zone and several prime viewing areas. Car Corral parking is $10 per day or $25 for a three-‐day pass.
