MUDBUG NEWS - GWRRA Chapter LA M
MUDBUG NEWS Friends for fun, safety And knowledge www.chapterlam.com NOVEMBER 2015 CHAPTER DIRECTORS ROBERT & JOAN PARTIGIANONI Hello Mudbugs, As we now are in the fall season, I can believe that we will have a little better weather for riding. Joan and I just got back from Mississippi District Rally. It was held in Gulfport/Biloxi Mississippi which is right along the Gulf Coast. We got to ride on the Goldwing as the weather was supposed to be beautiful and it was great weather going and coming back plus while we were there. The rally had moved off the beach and was now on Highway 59 going from I-10 to the beach on Highway 90. There were 3 hotels all owned by the same person and he opened them all up to the GWRRA event. He even closed off some parking lots and put a very large 30x100 foot tent up for the main events. The weather as I said was great and even during the daytime there was a nice breeze with about 78 degree temp. The free supper with many events was great and lot of fun and laughs. Then we had a police escorted lights show run for about 10 miles down highway 90 along the beach with lots of people along the beach to see our bikes and lights. Chapter LA-M has several events coming up in the next 3 months. We will be doing our Thanksgiving Dinner, and Christmas Dinner and Christmas Party. Of course there is the Polar Bear Run on New Year’s Day. Our November and December Gatherings will be on the Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner nights and only last about 10 minutes each. Robert and Joan Partigianoni Chapter Directors Chapter LA-M ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS TOM & NEVA REED The Love of Riding Hey guys not much to talk about this month as I have been out sick. But I would like to talk just a little about the love of my Wings. Even while laid up with some bad intestinal infections I had a desire to ride my wings. They have been laid up in the garage for almost 2months now untouched and unloved. The other night I was feeling well enough that I went out and cleaned up Julius for about 30 minutes and you know what my bike not only looks better, but I felt a lot better as well. I rode her to work this morning and again back home this evening. Of course it rained even though both the local weather and the weather channel said there was only about a 10% chance of rain. Well that did not matter because I was riding. I can honestly say that other than my family not much makes me feel better than riding my wings. So what is all of this leading to, well its simple just ride. I am going to make a short ride this Saturday if it is not raining, just to get Julius out of the garage and me off of my duff. I would love to go the Galveston, but I am just not up to a ride that long yet! So think about it if the day is not bad and you have a little time, do them TCLOCKs and take your wing out for a spin both you and your bike will be better from it. CHAPTER EDUCATORS MICKEY&MARY SEARELS Be Alert and Watch for Deer this Fall . We should always be alert and focused on riding. A rider's best response when encountering a deer is to use both brakes for maximum braking and keep their eyes and head up to improve their chances of keeping the bike up. If the crash is imminent, and there is enough space to swerve around the deer without leaving the roadway, use maximum braking and attempt a swerve in the opposite direction the deer is traveling just before impact. Wearing full protective gear, including a DOT-approved helmet, will help prevent injury in a crash. Training is everything. It helps make life-saving maneuvers second nature to riders. Motorcyclists of all skill levels should always take advantage of training courses PLPS. They will become safer and better riders. PLP at the Legion in Deridder is November 14 at 8 AM this will help improve our skills and show us where we are at and get us ready for a riding course in the future and above all it is allot of fun!!! Hope to see you there!! We also have a PLP in Lessville also soon Mickey and Mary Searels La-M Chapter Educators CHAPTER M AND DISTRICT MOTORIST AWARENESS COORDINATORS MICKEY & MARY SEARELS Chapter M MAD MudBugs I want to say thank you all for the great job you all did in the Deridder Fair !! It is not about one person it is all about the team!! From all the reports I got everybody had fun and it was a great success. This was the most material ever given away in MAC history. Also we gave away over 300 Wing Worlds!! Save your Wing Worlds we will be needing them again!! Next year we plan on doing the Lessville Fair as we will switch back and forth because we are so close. Also I want to say thank you to Dr Ardwond for coming from Lake Charles and sitting in, he is a survivor of a very bad accident on his Goldwing which him and his wife survived, he has an amazing story and is involved in The Motorist Awareness Campaign Thank you all for taking over while I was in the Hospital and packing up , bringing my bike home, and all that you did. Remember we-will never know who's life we may have effected, or what motorist that will LOOK TWICE AND SAVE A LIFE. Because of the handout or the chat you had with many of them at the fair. Mickey and Mary Searels LA-MAD District Directors Red & Brenda Roussel Hello Wingers, Well Rally seasons are over and we had a great time in Oklahoma. The state park was beautiful, the lake was breath taking and Oklahoma District Staff did a great job entertaining everyone, we dressed up for the Halloween Dance and I excited to see all eighteen members for Louisiana to be in costume. I want to thank Chapter D for showing up to represent Louisiana. We took a hay ride and had hotdogs with the other members who attended. Some of the District team also went to Mississippi to enjoy their rally Chapters D, K and O and everyone else who were involved, whether as a training are a participant. As I said last month we need to start focusing on LTP and MEP training to teach chapter skills and involvement of the membership and knowledge of what Chapter Life is really about. Well in November the District Team will be heading to the yearly Region Business Meeting. We’ll be obtaining information coming from National to past on to the Chapters. Until next time continue to have fun, ride and attend training Seminars. Red and Brenda Roussel LA. DD 504-512-1212 Gold Wing Road Riders Association Jack Wagner Region H Trainer By The Book Do I Have to Own a Goldwing? Have you met someone who would be a good fit with your GWRRA Chapter? But they don't ride a Goldwing. Encourage them to join. Did a GWRRA member sell their Goldwing and either quit riding or purchase another brand of motorcycle? Encourage them to stick around. Most of us know there are two categories of GWRRA membership, Full Members and Associate Members. To be a Full Member one must own a Goldwing or Valkyrie motorcycle. Associate Members are those who either own another brand of motorcycle, or maybe no motorcycle at all, but are still interested in being a part of GWRRA because of all we have to offer. It was recently announced that Associate Members no longer pay any more than a Full Member to enjoy all of the benefits of GWRRA membership. So, other than not having a Goldwing, are there other differences between being a Full and Associate Member? The short answer is 'not really'. They can participate equally in any and all activities at all levels with only 2 exceptions – and one of those can be overridden in extreme circumstances. Associate Members are not eligible to become Directors or Assistant Directors (at any level) and they may not participate in the Couple of the Year selection process above the Chapter level. Yes, Associate Members may be honored as your Chapter Couple of the Year – they just cannot participate in the District selection process. Yes, an Associate Member can hold team positions, even the officer positions such as Trainer, Educator, Membership Enhancement Coordinator or Treasurer. The exception I mentioned that might be overridden; in the rare instance of a Chapter facing closure due to no Full Member assuming the Directorship, a qualified Associate Member desiring the position can be considered as an alternative to closing the Chapter. So don't be a Goldwing 'snob'. Embrace Associate Members and encourage others to join and participate as an Associate Member. Who knows, they may realize owning a Goldwing really IS for them! Its a great way to grow your Chapter. For more information on types of memberships, refer to the Officer Handbook and New Member Orientation Guide. The more you know, the better it gets! Securing your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is a must. Protecting your email address from spammers is another thing you should be doing daily. Helping your friends with their PII and their email addresses is a very easy thing to do. This month we will give you some simple steps to help protect your family and friend’s email addresses. Sending Emails When sending emails to multiple people that may not know one other, use the BLIND COPY (BCC). This way, all of your recipients will not see each other’s email addresses. In the event that one of their email accounts gets hacked, no one else’s email addresses are viewable in that email. In the TO portion of the email, insert your email address and in the BCC, insert your friend’s email addresses. This way, you get a copy of the message that was sent out and nobody else sees the other addresses. Replying To Emails When replying to emails, never use the REPLY TO ALL option unless you have to. Sending an email to everybody may result in offending someone that you may not want to. Once an email is sent, it is FOREVER. This could open up a can of worms and start the email wars that may never stop. Also, when replying to an email, delete the information at the top in the body of the email. Info like the FROM, and the TO, and any email addresses listed. The person that sent it, knows who they are and all of email addresses take up space that is not necessary or needed. Forwarding Emails Last but not least, the forwarded email. This feature uses all of the above suggestions and can be the worst of them all. When forwarding an email, useALL of the suggestion above. This way all of your friend’s email addresses are hidden, all of the extra junk is out of the body of the message and everyone gets the information clean and secure.
