Here’s is the schedule for 2016 FEBRUARY 7th MARCH 6th APRIL 3rd MAY 1st “The family that prays together, stays together.” JANUARY 31, 2016 4 PASTOR’S CORNER…... WORLD DAY FOR CONSECRATED LIFE In 1997, Pope St. John Paul II called for consecrated life to be promoted. He declared February 2nd, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, to be observed as World Day for Consecrated Life. This annual observance invites the Church to reflect on the role of consecrated life within the Christian community. Those who choose to live a consecrated life do so in a number of ways. (1) Some women and men profess public vows and dedicate their lives to prayer and service, living in community as religious sisters, nuns, brothers, priests and monks. (2) Single lay people may choose to profess private vows as consecrated virgins, living out their vocation in various walks of life. (3) Secular institutes are another form of living the consecrated life as single people without formal vows. Those who live out their Christianity through a consecrated life bless the life of the Church in many ways. Our own Parish has witnessed that blessing. For example, our Parish was founded and staffed for most of its l00 years by the Augustinian Friars whose order was founded some 800 years ago. Their dedication, wisdom, holiness and good humor are still fondly remembered by many in the Parish. The Sisters of Charity of Halifax have also had a lasting influence on the life of the Parish as they formed and educated many generations of children who passed through the doors of St. Nicholas of Tolentine School or who were part of the Religious Education Program. We continue to be blessed by consecrated lives through three Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood who live in the convent and worship with us. One of them, Sr. Karen, is a Pastoral Associate of the Parish. Let it be our prayer that many others will hear the call to consecrated life and respond generously. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + ++ + + + PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Holy God, with gratitude in our hearts, We praise you for your love and fidelity. You have shown us the way to holiness through Mary and Jesus and many faithful witnesses. You continue to call women and men to dedicate their lives through the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Give them courage to respond generously to your call with “Here I am. Send me!” Blessed by your Spirit, may we always proclaim your love with our lives. Amen! Reprinted with permission from Prepare the Word (©2015), PrepareTheWord.com.
