Vic Country Poised for Community
Cup Clash
Country Victoria’s proud history of punching above its
weight when it comes to representative football will be
put to the test next weekend when it goes head-to-head
against a formidable Vic Metro outfit in the 2016 AFL
Victoria Community Cup.
With the ultimate community football bragging rights on
the line, the Vic Country vs. Vic Metro representative clash
will also mark the last hurrah for one of football’s most
revered names.
Hawthorn legend Peter Knights will lead the Vic Country
team for a final time when his side takes on Footscray
great, Brian Royal’s Vic Metro sideat Preston City Oval on
Sunday July 10.
After nearly twenty years at the helm of Victorian country
football at senior and junior level, Knights believes it’s
time for a fresh face.
“It’s time for a new head,” said Knights, “maybe someone
younger with new ideas to do things a bit differently.”
“It’s been a fantastic experience, and it’s a fantastic
opportunity for the best of Vic Country to play against
the best of Vic Metro.”
Keen to rectify the ledger after losing to Vic Metro by
38-points when the sides last met in 2014, Knights
is confident this year’s Vic Country side can reclaim
bragging rights.
“It’s a totally different squad, a totally different game and
totally different circumstances,” said Knights.
“This group will be prepared to give a really good account
of themselves when we take on Vic Metro next Sunday.”
In addition, some of Country Victoria’s best Under 19
talent will showcase their skills in a curtain raiser match,
when they go head-to-head with the Victorian Amateur
Football Association.
Coach Damien Sexton’s preliminary Energy Safe Victoria
Country U19 Squad includes players from fourteen
different leagues, with the Mornington Peninsula FNL (12
players), Geelong FNL and Ovens & Murray FL (9 players)
the best represented.
Final Senior and Under 19 representative squads will be
announced via the AFL Victoria website (www.aflvic.com.

Footy Preview - Round 11
By Toe Punt
Frankston Bombers has an opportunity to grab top
spot on the ladder this afternoon when it tackles Crib
Point in the Split Round 11.
There are only three games today with Tyabb hosting
Rosebud and Devon Meadows making the trek to
Pier St Oval to play Dromana.
The Bombers were smacked back into reality by
Sorrento last week, which from all reports, coach
Beau Muston took at least one positive out of.
It’s hard to imagine Muston seeing positives in the
performance, however, he well may have been
happy about the fact that his team doesn’t get too
far ahead of itself.
It would be easy to start drinking your own bath
water after playing some good footy and sitting on
top of the ladder.
However, if the club is honest with itself, it has lost
now to Hastings, Sorrento and Somerville.
Whilst the Eagles are on struggle street right now,
they did show the Bombers’ up.
In fact, Sorrento coach Nick Jewell watched some of
the footage of Somerville’s demolition on Bombers,
tweaked training slightly and the outcome was a
very convincing win.
Against Somerville, Luke Rowe, Tom Shaw and Ben
Crowe got hold of the Bombers.
Last week against Sorrento, it was Nick Corp and
Scott Lockwood who booted nine between them –
all of them power forwards.
Perhaps the Bombers mids are good at running
forward of the footy but don’t get back to help when
they don’t have it?
Perhaps the Bombers defence is good at attacking
but not so good at defending?
These are questions that I’m convinced the Bombers’
brainstrust will ask in the final six matches of the year.
It’s just so important for the Bombers players, and
supporters for that matter, to understand that they
have a dream draw. They have also lost to three of
the heavyweights.
Don’t get me wrong, the Bombers’ best is good
enough to win it. I truly believe that and have really
enjoyed watching their brand of footy. Perhaps
expectations just need to be lowered until the
business end!
The first challenge for the Bombers is today, against
Crib Point.
The Magpies have been consistently good in the past
few weeks. Their aim now is to build into 2017.
Devon Meadows came home like a steam train last
season, which made them an attractive place for
new recruits in the off-season. It provided optimism
around the whole footy club and community.
The Pies have got to look at the final six games in
exactly the same light.
It’s been a waste of a year until now. However, what
have been the positives? Where do we want the
club to be next season? How do we repay our hard
working volunteers and sponsors in the final third
of the year? Finals aren’t in the equation by gee the
Magpies can dictate who gets there and who doesn’t.
They can start with a big upset over Frankston
Bombers today.
DROMANA is starting to look threatening, although
it is out of the finals race. Today the Tigers tackle
DEVON MEADOWS.
Like Crib Point, these two clubs will be looking to
finish the year strongly.
The Panthers have been hit by injuries to key players
and haven’t been able to get continuity in their team.

They are a hard body team who like contested footy,
however, they do get hurt on the outside.
The Tigers are good in this area (winning outside
ball). They have got to play a lot of kids this season,
on the back of them getting a taste for it the week
before.
The Tigers’ form suggests that they are finding more
consistency and Rikki Johnston as a first year coach is
probably managing things a lot better also.
There’s a lot to like about these two teams and it will
be a fascinating match.
TYABB host ROSEBUD, on the back of pushing Rye to
the line.
The Yabbies’ best is very competitive, however, they
just can’t sustain it for long enough to grab that
elusive victory.
Rosebud answered the doubters wonderfully well
last week against Somerville.
The Buds have the wood over the Eagles and have
won eight straight against them, however, it’s the
way they went about it that was more impressive.
A few players who lowered their colours the week
before came out and played solid games.
That’s the sign of a good footy team with a lot of
pride – that’s what Rosebud has.
They are still a few short of their best line-up and
a win here would really set them nicely with five
rounds to go.

Tyabb Yabbies
Seniors last week V Rye – We set about earning back
some respect from our members and supporters after
our disappointing effort the previous week. After our
review Tuesday night, the players are well aware of
what is required to take the game up to our visitors this
week,Rosebud. Congrats to our social committee and
helpers on a very successful Mid Season Ball. The club
really values your effort and hard work in organising these
events. We look forward to what you have in store for the
rest of the year.
Reserves: with injuries and unavailability hitting the club
this week,it was a different looking side that ran out with
some old faces returning to help out. The side tackled
hard and showed real endeavour but just couldn’t hit the
scoreboard with all the play that we did. Unfortunately a
poor last quarter marred what was a good effort from the
guys. With the players that suited up this week for the first
time now making a greater commitment,we should look
stronger in the coming weeks.
Great win by the Under 19s – was good to see a team
effort with only 15 players. Good to see Day and Boer kick
multiple goals for the first time and both Regan’s kicking
goals to finishing off good work from the ground. Big
challenge today v Rosebud. We are looking forward to it.
Frankston Bombers
Although the footy wasn’t great last week there is
plenty to be excited about at Bomber HQ following the
announcement that Beau will be at the helm again next
year with Assistant Coach Nathan Lonie also committing
to 2017. In addition a large group of senior players have
also signed on to be part of the Red & Black success that
is rapidly building. We should all be proud that our club
has built a culture that current players want to belong to
& others outside desire to be part of. Welcome to Luke
James who will add to our talent and awesome to see club
royalty in Brian O’Carroll back on the track. Club leaders
have been working behind the scenes with Frankston
Rovers to create a solid pathway to our under 19’s for next
year to groom the next generation of Bombers. We look
forward to welcoming them for 2017.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the details for the
Businessmans Lunch on Friday 5th August. Each year the
entertainment gets bigger with more laughs & taller tales
from the speakers and this years version will be a ripper.
Start networking with your colleagues to put together a
table for the lunch which is usually a sell out.
Go Bombers.
Rosebud Buds
For most of the year the Buds have been energetically
making Olympic Park the end to aspirations for visiting
clubs. Our sponsors, present for their special function last
week must have been very pleased with the wonderful
talent being developed by our club, beneficiaries of their
highly valued contributions. Well done to the Committee
organisers on a wonderfully presented day. A big thank
you also to special guest speaker Stan Alves shared some
insightful stories on life and football. Full marks must also
go to our coaches who are really bringing out this talent,
providing opportunity for our evergreen committed,
veteran champions and the audacious talent of our
emerging stars. With some very big home games to come
(Hastings Rd 12, Sorrento Rd 14 and Devon Rd 16) this
confidence at home could well be a very important factor
as the 2016 season plays out. There is a plethora of games
between the top sides to come and our consistency,
especially at home will be significant. Somerville teams
were not able to get close last Saturday. For the first time
this season the seniors took control from the first bounce,
with Big Time setting the pattern for his and the teams
day. He was wonderfully supported by 21 others but
especially Dewie, Sean, GB, Jack and Schulzy. “Farrelly’s
Formidables” are now clearly the team to beat. The big
three down from the ones Kurtis, Jonesey and Robbie
impressed along with Kano, Adrian and Glenny P. The
Unders were on top when the game was unfortunately
closed down during the third quarter after a Somerville
player sustained a serious leg injury with Hep, Tanner,
Izaac, W. Elliott, Adam and Bronson in control. Look out
Yabbies. Go Buds!

Devon Meadows Panthers
We head back down the Peninsula to visit the Dromana
footy and netball club today. A reasonably tough day at
the office last week at the hands of Red Hill, so we are
on the rebound and ready to launch into this challenge
- and with a week off coming up there’s no excuse not to
give 110% out there today. The senior side fell just short
against one of the best outfits in the comp, and were
arguably the better side on the day albeit without putting
it on the scoreboard. The seconds are copping the brunt
of our club’s unfortunate run with injuries and I reckon
if there was a past players day held next week, half the
blokes in attendance would have to pull on the boots.
Everyone who has stepped up to fill holes for all sides
has done their job with aplomb, and we’ve seen some
glimpses into the great future of our club on display the
last 2 weeks. The 3rds just need to keep chipping away
and know the wins will come with experience, I can see
a big 2017 coming up for the lads. Aside from the footy I
just want to send a big shoutout to a couple of clubmen
going through tough times at the moment – Obviously
everyones thoughts are still with Beauy and his family as
he continues his treatment, we are all 100% positive there
is some good news just around the corner. Our thoughts
also turn to Al Cotton who is currently in hospital
undergoing a battle of his own. A terrific clubman and an
all-round great bloke – we hope to see Al back at the footy
club for a visit once he gets through his current situation.
Upcoming Functions - Saturday 16th July (Home Game Vs
Rye) IPOD / Onesie Night - $10 per song with the last song
played on the night winning a great prize. Get in quick
with your favourite song. Songs will be on sale at training
on a Thursday night. Saturday 1st October 14th Annual
Devon Meadows Grand Final Breakfast. Secure your tables
(of 10) fast. This is always a sell-out. $100 a ticket gets you
a continental or hot breakfast, unlimited beer, wine, OJ &
soft drink, Giveaways such as Wine, stubbie holders, mugs
etc and of course a great entertaining way to kick of your
GF day celebrations.
Come on Meadows!!
Lack of numbers are really hurting our chances in the
U19s with the coaches unable to interchange players and
tiredness in the last quarter not helping the cause.
MAJOR RAFFLE
Club’s Major Raffle Tickets are on sale. 300 tickets only
$100 each.
Vouchers of your choice to the Prize value of: 1St $6000,
2nd $2000 & 3rd $1000
GO TIGERS!!!!!
Crib Point Magpies
CPFNC ventured down to Dromana with some must win
games.
The girls netball are flying and all recorded great wins
to consolidate their seasons in all grades and all have
excellent finals chances.
After a slow start our U19’s finally ground it out for a solid
win. The boys welcomed back Joe ‘The Enforcer’ Smith
who played a great game.
The reserves were out to atone for their effort the week
before and came out blazing. Unfortunately, as coach
Thompson pointed out. 10 minutes of non application
can be costly. There were plenty of chances to still put
it away in the last but some game sense decisions in the
end helped to decide a narrow and disappointing loss.
The firsts were hoping to replicate their efforts from the
previous week when the Cribby of old emerged with
better tempo control, decision making and application.
The fans were not let down. A couple of quick goals by
Dromana could have resulted in hung heads but to our
credit we continued the application and were unlucky
not to overrun Dromana with some critical momentum
decisions going against Crib.
Music in the rooms tonight so hang around and only a
week to get your tickets booked for the gala ‘Black and
White Ball’ so see Holly or jump online to get your spot.
Let’s continue the application of the last few weeks to
record a well deserved win. Flap Flap Swoop Swoop.
Dromana Tigers
The sponsors for today’s Round 11 game against Devon
Meadows are Lawnlayer Victoria and Maw Civil Group.
Last Saturday the club held its President’s Luncheon with
guest speaker Essendon Legend Terry Daniher and a
room fully of sponsors and invited guests.
Terry after regaling his audience with tales in his country
lad style also auctioned a framed print of the four Daniher
brothers who played VFL/AFL as a fund raiser to finding a
cure for Motor Neurone Disease and our sponsors were
most generous in their bidding.
On field the Senior team regained the Edgerton Shield
with an all the way win over Crib Point. Rory Gregg
received the Best on Ground award from the family.
The Reserves team also produced a great two point win
after splitting the honours at half time.

The Power of Football – White Ribbon Round
Football is not just a little Saturday afternoon trot on
the park. To many it means so much more. It’s a second
home. A sense of freedom. A different world.
The stresses of “real” life can be temporarily wiped from
the mind for that couple of hours. For around 2 hours
every Saturday sweat pours from foreheads dripping
of pain, anguish, sadness and grief. All built up frustrations are allowed out with a simple burst down the wing,
a goal saving sprint to smother or a rhino like attack on
the footy.
So for many football provides that world away from the
world. A place of enjoyment and freedom. But behind all
of that football also provides a place of guidance and a
place of influence.
It is with this in mind that the community dedicates this
round to supporting White Ribbon, Australia’s only national, male led campaign to end men’s violence against
women. While their mission is all about “making women’s
safety a man’s issue too” it’s about more than that. It’s
about making EVERYONE’S safety EVERYONE’S business.
Once considered a place for the boys the power of football in raising awareness is immense. Football provides a
place of guidance for more young men than anywhere
else. Young men look to those who guide them into
the on field battle week-in week-out. Their off field behavioural habits are also guided by these same people.
The natures of the football world provide great influence
over time on an individual’s “real” world. This is the place
where things can change.
The numbers are damning. The results are tragic. The
long terms effect saddening and irreversible. But it
doesn’t have to be that way.
This is not a campaign to encourage male power. Rather,
it is a campaign to encourage men to speak out and challenge the attitudes and behaviour of other men. Every
woman is a daughter. Maybe a sister. A girlfriend. One
day a wife. Could be a mother. They are though most
definitely a friend.
We all have the power to make a difference.
Two More Young Guns Make The Grade
The future is fast arriving as two more young guns step
up to announce themselves on the state wide stage. Next
Saturday (July 10) field umpire Alex Murray and boundary runner Zac Gunn-Cameron will be taking the field in
the Vic Country versus Vic Metro representative matches.
Alex will be one of three field umpires adjudicating the
U19 match between AFL Vic Country and VAFA. Zac will
be one of 4 boundaries running the AFL Vic Country v
AFL Vic Metro Senior Match.
This is a fantastic opportunity for both guys and underlines their potential for bigger and better things in umpiring.
The SUA wishes to congratulate both Alex and Zac on
their wonderful appointments and is sure they will both
represent themselves and the association to the highest
standard. This will not be the last you hear of either boy.
Get Involved
SUA are always on the lookout for those crazy individuals who want to become umpires. It takes a certain type
of person to want to umpire, but those people who take
the brave step, often benefit greatly from all umpiring offers. If you love the game and you want to keep fit, learn
life skills, meet new friends and earn some money then
umpiring is for you.

Nepean Netball Preview – Round 11
Crib Point v Frankston
Week one of Round 11 as it has been
split into 2 weeks to give players and
volunteers a week of to relax and
maybe go and get some sun in a
warmer climate…or to just relax by
the fire and do nothing. Either way we still have 3 games
on this weekend so let’s take a look.
Is it too early to engrave the Premiership Cup? Cribby
have been fantastic all season and continued their
form last weekend with a victory over Dromana by 30
points. This week their opponents will be Frankston. The
Bombshells season has been up and down, and they will
certainly look to challenge the Magpies but just won’t be
able to match it with the leagues current inform side.
Dromana v Devon Meadows
Tyabb v Rosebud
The Tigers are just hanging onto the final aspirations for
season 2016. With 6 games left and just sitting out of the
top four Dromana will have to get the whips cracking
with a few upsets, and this could all start this weekend
against Devon Meadows. The Panthers in the last 3 weeks
have lost both Somerville and Red Hill, and this game
against Dromana will be one they want to win to keep
in touch with the top four. This game will be a fantastic
contest and Devon will get the tip to rebound back after
last week.
Tyabb is just motoring along currently and will look
to really make their impact come final time in 6 weeks.
Defending their title the Yabbies are in prime position
to go back to back. Rosebud seem to have fallen off the
perch the last few weeks. The Buds haven’t won since
round 5 and the closet thing since has been a draw
with Frankston. Let’s hope that Rosebud finds their
groove again as they were fearless at the start of the
season. Tyabb will win this game but there is a feeling
that Rosebud will bounce back and could steal a finals
position.

Devon Meadows Panthers
Last weeks games where chilling and looked lovely with
the girls tans for the ball! In U17’s there still needs to be
a more confident start from the team but it was a better
effort today.
The second quarter was the main problem with the
team lacking direction and throwing passes away.In
the second half the girls put in a much better effort and
focussed on the job to be done. There was some really
good passages of play in the last quarter which was
pleasing to see.The team lost by 7 goals to RH 28 to DM
21. BOC Sharni S.he C grade girls came out firing in the
first, unfortunately they didn’t keep up the pressure or
stick to our team game & Red Hill outplayed us in the last
3 quarters. We came away with the win but now need
to refocus and tackle being complacent with 4 strong
quarters against Dromana. BOC Capt Cokes. A great
night was had at the ball, thanks to the girls who made
this happen. Ball BOC Faith. In B grade, We started solidly
with some great defensive work all over the court giving
us some great scoring opportunities to lead 25 to 9 at
half time. Stepping it up in the second half saw Devon
Meadows consolidate and draw further ahead finishing
58 to 18 as the final score. BOC - Nat & Shan. In A grade
the girls played 3 of 4 quarters really well, however that
one unstable quarter cost us the win & potentially finals.
The girls really need to work on
playing consistant quarters because when they do they
are as good as the top 3 sides! BOC Zo +Luce.
Tyabb Yabbies
Keira works to find the best on court combinations. After
the bye and a few weeks off training there was obvious
rustiness but also real positives between Jess & H in goals.
Today we travel to Rosebud & are looking for a solid hit
out before the bye round next weekend.
NIP! NIP!
Crib Point Magpies
We were all happy to be playing indoors against Dromana
while the wind was blowing outside! Our Under 17’S
kicked off the day and the girls showed pockets of
good play, particularly out of the centre of the court but
struggled to maintain momentum across the court. The
girls continue to improve, especially in the gaoling end.
Best on court went to Tomeisha Serong after an excellent
game, playing out of position.
The C Grade girls provided a steady effort to take the win.
Jess Scarlett shot accurately all game in a best on court
performance. Special mention to Meg Romeril after a
great game in WA.
Positivity and communication between B Grade provided
extra pressure and caused multiple turnovers which
led to a great team win. Combinations and versatility
worked well and Holly Dobson was a standout providing
accuracy and strong leads in the goal ring.
In A Grade a hard working defence end gave many
opportunities to our goalers. Kahlia McHugh had an
amazing game, hardly missing a shot and Dionne took
intercept after intercept! We showed our flexibility with
the inclusion of some B Graders stepping up positively
into the team. Best on Court went to Tessa Moncrieff.
U/17s managed to get their 2nd win against Rye. Amelia’s
defensive effort in the midcourt was vital in giving the
girls plenty of opportunities & Georgia.
B put lots of pressure over the Rye shooters, restricting
their influence on the scoreboard. The girls are working
on producing a consistent effort across the 4 quarters as
the lapses are letting them down at times.
In C grade, Jaye continues to master her role as GS with
greater confidence each week. In defence Morgan gave
her opponent no space and worked hard to treasure the
ball the whole way down the court. Coming on in the
second half
Jayde injected some oomph into the midcourt, always
contesting hard for the first ball.
There have been some changes to the B grade structure
with Millie & Bec teaming up in defence with great
success. In an inconsistent match we were happy to take
a strong win but have highlighted some areas requiring
real attention before our re-matches against Devon, Crib
and Somie.
The A grade match was played in good spirits. Our
defensive end continued to strengthen their connections
& team work resulting in great difficulty for the Rye
goalers. In attack there were many changes as coach

Last Saturday saw us up against an inform Crib Point the
only highlight for the day was the awesome win by our
U17’s team who are getting stronger and stronger even
with a couple of players out they stuck strong and played
a tight game winning by 39 in the end credit to the Crib
Point girls for sticking in there. Awards went to Olivia
Guerts and Kaitlyn Novetny We knew we had a tough
middle of the season and Cribby was always going to
be a tough day well played to all 3 sides there is always
next week. C Grade Awards went to Amy Ridgeway and
Belinda Ingram. B Awards went to Alycia Escudero and
Rivvy Walter and A Awards went to Georgie May and Kristi
Brinksma.
Today we have another tough one up against Devon
Meadows if we stick together we can do it.
Today also sees Georgie May play her 100th game for
the Club, Georgie came to us in 2010 from a basketball
background and made the transition relatively easy, She
can play either end of the court but prefers the defensive
end and would be one of the top defenders in the league
with her explosive leap and smart positioning, when under
pressure Georgie rises to the challenge.which is one of the
reasons she loves coming up against the top teams like
Crib Point and Tyabb.Over the years Georgie has been part
of our leadership group and has instilled her knowledge
in our new talent.Georgie has won 3 Best and fairest for
the club an ANZAC day medal and last year turned her
hand to coaching, Georgie has been an integral part of
our netball community and couldn’t be prouder standing
by her while reaching her 100 games. Georgie’s favorite
time at Dromana has been making life long friends and
her favorite memory would be her first ever Netty Trip so
much fun......Well done Georgie we wish you all the best
for today and the rest of the season. Everybody get around
her and enjoy the Midseason Ball tonight GO TIGERS!!

A-Grade – We were missing Whitey & Darci again last week.
Thanks again to Jess Smith #1 (B-grade) and Shannon
Young (U17s) for stepping up. The final score wasn’t an
accurate reflection of the way the girls played. Best on –
Tracey Snooks & Bethany Leach. More training as a team
is required.
B-Grade – The B-Grade girls showed some really good
intensity in their game against Somerville. They started
hard and continued until the very end. The scoreboard
stayed quite even during the first half of the game and
there was some great plays by us, getting the ball down
smoothly to our shooters which was our main focus at
training. Our best players were Indi in GK and Amy in C but
also well done to our shooters Jess & Lil.
C-Grade – The girls went out and all had a great game.
Thanks to Casey Raphael (U17s) playing with us. Somerville
just got a lead from the start and we tried hard to catch
them but couldn’t. Best on was Ebonie Eastham great in
defence and shooting and Ali Raphael in mid court.
