Experience the Hunt of Years Gone By... June 7th & 8th, 2014 Genesee Country Village Museum 1410 Flint Hill Road, Mumford, NY 14482 The Mission ...of the Derby at the Country Village & Museum is to use a high quality, charitable equestrian event to showcase Upstate New York’s rich equine tradition; the express purpose being to raise funds for select charities in the Buffalo, Rochester and Finger Lakes area and to nurture growth and vitality within the equine community. Our Cause We have chosen the Rochester Women’s Giving Circle (RWGC) as our featured charity for the inaugural Derby set for June 2014. Since 2007, the RWGC has grown from five founding members to currently 121 members who each donate at least $1000 per year. In its six-year history, this group of philanthropic citizens has combined their financial strength to make annual grants to programs and organizations in Monroe County that help women and girls achieve their goals and take control of their lives by becoming economically independent. A Model of Efficiency RWGC is unique with its “money-in, money-out” philosophy. There is virtually no overhead, almost 100 percent of the dollars donated from members go directly to the not-for-profit organizations it supports. To date, the RWGC has granted over $460,000. These dollars have directly benefitted over 3000 women and girls through training, education and/or direct services. Worthy of Praise During this year’s grant breakfast, the RWGC granted $132,000 to 11 agencies supporting economic stability for women and girls. During the breakfast, Rochester Mayor Tom Ryan, County Executive Maggie Brooks and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter shared delightfully surprising comments about their experiences working with the Giving Circle. “Remarkable,” “beacon of light,” along with acknowledgement and praise on how it is “…so important to make every dollar count,” were just a few highlights. The Derby at the Country Village & Museum is excited to help this amazing group of philanthropists because they impact so many different groups in such a diversity of ways year after year. We feel that we can leverage the RWGC’s standards of efficiency and excellence in due diligence to be most impactful with our sponsor’s dollars. We encourage you to learn more by visiting the RWGC website at www.therwgc.org. June 7th & 8th, 2014 Genesee Country Village Museum 1410 Flint Hill Road, Mumford, NY 14482 The Event For lovers of horses, history, philanthropy and fun: We invite you to join us on June 7th and 8th, 2014 for the inaugural charity Hunter Derby at the Genesee Country Village & Museum. Come join us for a day of unforgettable excitement, exceptional elegance and wonderful food as we watch the highest caliber of equine athletes and their riders compete for $35,000 over a challenging vintage hunt course. Why a Derby? Fox hunting is the hunter discipline’s true origins. In a fox hunt, horses must be athletic, sure-footed and brave to help their riders navigate the challenges of natural obstacles and irregular terrain. Today, the hunter ring rewards horses with a calm demeanor and precise, fluid movements over fences on manicured footing over a course with predictable patterns. A Hunter Derby is designed to bring the hunter discipline closer to its true origins. Courses are larger and built to encourage daring, bravery and athleticism from horse and rider: qualities that are needed in a hunt field. Location Staged in the Great Meadow at the Genesee Country Village & Museum in the gorgeous Finger Lakes region of Western New York, this derby is designed to showcase the spirit of a traditional hunt field. Your attendance and support benefits the Museum and the Rochester Women’s Giving Circle and keeps our region’s long and proud equine tradition fresh and alive for future generations to enjoy. Spectator Amenities The Derby at the Genesee Country Village & Museum will feature both National and International Derbies with the highest caliber of riders.
