Mowgli was the young boy, frightened
from his family by Shere Khan, who
took refuge with, and was raised by
Mother Wolf. Mother Wolf called him
Mowgli (Little Frog)

The Bandar-Logs were shiftless, witless and
cowardly monkeys. They chattered and talked instead
of working, remembered nothing and had no respect
for Jungle Law.

Akela was the great grey lone Wolf
who led the Pack by strength and
cunning. He sat on the Council Rock
where all the other wolves gathered
round to listen to him
Chil was a kite who had keen eyes and was
a good hunter. Chil saw Mowgli being
kidnapped by the Bander-log and carried a
message back to Baloo and Bagheera.
They were then able to rescue him.

Baloo was the big, sleepy but wise
brown bear, who taught Mowgli the
laws of the jungle, and was a good and
trusted friend.

Raksha was the Mother who accepted
Mowgli when he was a baby and reared
him with her Wolf Cubs.

Shere Khan was the great bullying Tiger.
All stripes and teeth and claws, Shere Khan
was the enemy of the free people because he
often killed cattle, thereby bringing man into
the Jungle. He lived near the Waingunga
River.

Bagheera was the great black Panther,
who taught Mowgli the laws of hunting in
the jungle. He also was a friend to Mowgli
and helped when he was in trouble.

Kaa was the Rock Python – a good natured,
slow, great serpent. Kaa was not a poisonous
snake, his strength lay in his hug. He helped
Baloo and Bagheera to rescue Mowgli from
the Bandar-log’s lost city by attacking some
of the monkeys.
Hathi was the kindly, wise and strong
elephant. He is the Master of the
Jungle and reprimanded Shere Khan for
killing a man which brought fear to the
Jungle.
