be necessary to complete this requirement.
Attendance Policy
• No student will receive course credit for a full year
course after having been absent from that course
for more than 20 class periods (excused or
unexcused) during the school year for reasons other
than school sponsored activities (i.e. field trips). The
total number of absences will be pro-rated for less
than full year courses and for courses which meet
other than five times per week.
• If a student is more than 15 minutes late for class,
other than because of a school-sanctioned event,
he or she will be considered absent for class

Let’s Talk About GPA
• Calculated at the end
of each year
• Rank end of junior year
Add/Drop Courses
• The first three days of the new semester, students
can see their counselor about adding/dropping a
course.
• After those first three days, students must make an
appointment with their counselor to talk about the
schedule change & pick up a form (which must be
completed prior to a decision being made)
• If a class is dropped after the first three weeks,
students will receive a ‘W’ on their transcript
Course Levels
• Advanced Placement/Early College Experience
(ECE): college level and extremely rigorous; may
earn college credit depending on how they score
on the AP exam or course (no test for UCONN –
earn a C or better to get credit) (junior/senior year)
• Honors: rigorous courses and intended for students
who are in the top 20% of their class
• Academic: for students committed to a
challenging program that will prepare them for
college
•
Please note, some courses offer sections for students who work at a
different pace, with more focus on building essential skills needed to find
success in the class. The content of the course will not change and
these courses are deemed necessary by administration.
Override
• Parental override: teachers recommend students for
courses, but final decision remains with the parent
and student
• If the override is granted, it will be reviewed at the
end of the first month of school, and students who
are struggling may be recommended by a
classroom teacher to change the level based on
the original recommendation (based on availability)
• Some courses have a maximum capacity; in these
cases, students may not be allowed to override into
the course, but put on a waitlist instead
