2 day sale - Mulberry Bank Auctions
2 day sale Fine Antiques and Collectables Friday 7th and Saturday 8th March Our March sale of Antiques and Collectables certainly has a lot to live up to after our very impressive Oakhurst sale in January, and we are confident that the truly eclectic mix of items will not disappoint. With our largest sale to date, there really is something for everyone. The sale contains a real assortment of treasures from closer to home, stretching across mainland Europe and reaching to the Far East. The jewellery section of the sale boasts some impressive pieces including diamonds, rubies, tanzanites, emeralds and a host of other attractive stones. Also not to be missed are the array of pocket watches including lot 29 an eighteen carat gold pocket watch… the perfect accessory for the man about town. Day one of the sale also incorporates an interesting selection of silver from around the globe. From Norway we have lot 138, an unusual pair of silver condiments by Magnus Aase in the form of drinking horns. From further afield, there is a signed Japanese lady’s compact and a Middle Eastern silver card case. In addition there are some beautiful pieces from our very own shores from a George III sugar sifter spoon to a cased Art Deco dressing table set. Day two of the sale begins with ceramics and France and Germany have given us two of the star lots of the sale. Lot 298 is a possibly a unique 18th century Sevres porcelain charger. It features portraits of the some of the most important female members of the French aristocracy from the time, including Madame Lamballe who was not only the super-intendant of the Royal Household from 1774 until the revolution, but was one of the closest friends of Marie Antoinette herself. Lot 301 hails from the Meissen porcelain factory, considered by many to be the finest of all porcelain manufacturers. It is an exceptional porcelain casket dating from around 1860, with detailed mythological relief decoration to all sides. The collectables not only span the globe but also the centuries. More recent times are represented by a good selection of designer pieces from the likes of Alessi and Philippe Starck. From further back in time there is an unusual selection of relics, some dating back as far as the 19th century. They are believed to include Luke the Evangelist, a piece of The Last Supper Table and Saint Anthony of Padova to name but a few. East Asia is well represented, most notable by lot 531, an exceptionally fine signed Shibayama inlaid Mille-fleurs lacquered box. There are also other fine pieces from the region in various media including Jade, porcelain and cloisonne. Hopefully this will whet your appetite and we look forward to welcoming you at the sale.
