We will cover how to manage risks in assuring the plan executes as was intended. Students will have the opportunity to have a plan drawn up for them in an optional planning consultation meeting, which is included in the course fee. This consultation is private. Come join this class as we will be preparing a light soup with seafood in a tomato broth base; Tarragon-Lemon Chicken on a bed of tender greens, served with Pita Crisps; Asparagus and Mushroom Pasta tossed with White Wine Sauce; sautéed young vegetables with shallots and mint; and a refreshingly simple Lemon Meringue Tart. Would you like to BBQ like a pro in your own backyard? Now you can! Real BBQ Pit Master, Terrie D’Amato will teach you how to BBQ low and slow like the guys competing on TV. Students will be guided through the preparation, cooking and serving of pulled pork, chicken, ribs, and baked beans in the true Southern BBQ style. Terrie will also demonstrate how to make a BBQ rub and homemade BBQ sauce. Students will learn the techniques to master the Q and be the envy of all! After the demonstration, students will feast on everything that is cooked, so bring your appetite! This will be a full day of learning, participating, and eating! Muffins are the ultimate comfort food, and they are too delicious to resist with your favorite coffee. Learn how to make a variety of yummy muffins from scratch, with just a bowl and a wooden spoon! These muffins can be made in all sizes to create the perfect homemade gift baskets for all of those special occasions; This will be a demonstration class and students can bring a plastic bag to take home the leftovers, if there are any! CY009 Central York High School, Culinary Lab, Room 403 Instructor – Manju Gupta 1 Session – Thursday, March 27 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. $65/person Wheel Thrown Pottery You will learn the basics of wheel thrown pottery and accomplish the creation of various forms and decoration techniques. All work will be fired on site. Class suitable for beginners or those with experience. Sign up quickly, class limited to 10 students. You will make various tattoo designs on your palm, leg or anywhere on your body using paste made of natural herbs, (Henna). It is used to decorate our bodies for special festive occasions and it also gives a relaxing feeling. You will learn to make your own paste from leaves or henna powder, make your own creative designs or select one from a print, and learn curing techniques to achieve the best results in easy steps. CY013 Sinking Springs Elementary School, Art Room Instructor – Manju Gupta 3 Sessions – March 3, 4, 5 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. $65/person Tai Chi Chih, Joy Through Movement T’ai Chi Chih (pronounced Tie Chee Chuh) is a contemporary Qigong set, and can be considered a moving meditation. According to Chinese medicine, “chi” is the vital life force or life energy flowing through all living things. It is believed if the chi is not flowing freely and in a balanced way, then disease may occur in the body. Regular practice brings far-reaching benefits: improved circulation, balance, coordination and flexibility, increased energy, mental clarity, relaxation and reduction of stress. Participants will receive alignmentbased instruction in key yoga poses and learn breathing and centering techniques, enhancing wellness on all levels. Please bring a yoga mat, and dress comfortably. A block and strap may be beneficial. It is derived from ju-jitsu and uses techniques of evasion, redirection and immobilization to avoid an attack and then control the attacker. Physical strength is not required so Aikido is well suited for all people regardless of age or gender. You will learn a variety of fundamental Aikido techniques, along with energy building and relaxation exercises. Aikido requires a moderate level of physical activity and participation. Maybe you recently received a Kindle, iPad, or other device as a gift and aren’t sure how to get started. This interactive class will introduce you to eBooks and what the hype’s all about. Learn about the most popular e-reading devices and how to choose one that fits you. Live demonstrations and hands-on time will give you experience obtaining and using eBooks. This hands on class will cover applying formats such as currency, dates, bolding, font color to one cell or the entire workbook. Time saving techniques such as auto fill and copy/paste will also be covered. An introduction to charts is included in this level I class. Manual included. Why are Barre classes so popular? Because they work! Barre classes use ballet and dance conditioning techniques to sculpt the lean figure you have always wanted. All levels are welcome to join this class, as modifications will be shown. Come prepared to work hard! Please bring a mat for reclining exercises and 2 -4 pound weights. DA009 Leaders Heights Elementary School Gym Instructor – Tammy Talarico, E-RYT, NSCA-CPT 8 Sessions – Thursdays, March 6 – April 24 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. $65/person Beginning Traditional Fencing Learn the classical French school of fencing. It is a traditional fencing process that goes back over three hundred and fifty years. It is very precise and methodical, and produces a style of fencing that is applicable to a wide range of physical types. With the French school, since it is a strategy-driven fencing process, you don’t have to be the strongest, the fastest, or the most aggressive. With the French school, you learn to out-think your opponent. This approach makes fencing a very flexible game. This class is for persons with little to no fencing experience. All necessary equipment will be provided. Students should wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Class is limited to 10 students. DA010 Leaders Heights Elementary Gym Instructor – Sharon Reynolds 10 Sessions – Wednesdays, March 5 – May 21 (No class 3/26, 4/30) 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. $37/person Intermediate Fencing New! This class is for fencers who have completed my Beginning Traditional Fencing class and for those who have moderate fencing experience. The purpose of this class is to foster appreciation and participation in the art and science of foil fencing in the traditional French style. The French School of Fencing is a very old and traditional style going back for a couple hundred years. This is not the fencing you see at the Olympics nor what you see in the movies, it’s not flashy, it’s like physical chess. This class will be divided into 2 sessions, one devoted to lessons and drills and the remainder of the time will be for open bouting. All fencers must provide their own equipment and it must be in good repair. We will create many different clusters and you may bring your own items to cluster. Also we will show you how to make Barks which are simple and great to take to Summer Parties.
