Begin by celebrating the 200th birthday of one of opera’s greatest composers, Giuseppe Verdi, as we present scenes from some of his most passionate and dramatic operas in Viva Verdi! Also, enjoy Broadway and Beyond, a recital featuring arias, songs and duets with veterans of Broadway and Opera. You will be transported next to the French Quarter of Paris for a 90-minute version of Puccini’s most popular opera in La Vie de Bohème, featuring LOV’s sensational Children’s Chorus. Our season culminates with the area premiere of Terrence McNally’s award-winning Broadway play, Master Class, based on the life of one of opera’s most celebrated divas – Maria Callas – and her historic Masterclasses of the 1970s at New York City’s famed Juilliard School of Music. Sincerely, Call for tickets and info · (757) 446-6666 Children’s Opera and Musical Theater Camp June 18-28, 2014 Children ages 8-13 are introduced to the magic of Opera and Broadway through workshops in singing, acting, stage presence and performing. The camp culminates in a public performance of children’s chorus scenes from popular Operas and Broadway Shows. Bel Canto Society Lyric Opera Virginia’s Bel Canto Society provides its members with themed events, parties and educational opportunities scheduled around LOV’s seasonal presentations. Chapters are established in Southside, Williamsburg and Richmond. The annual Membership Fee is $35 per person. From her early days in the U.S. and Greece to her extraordinary career around the world, Callas changed opera forever. In Terrence McNally’s award-winning play Master Class, discover the woman during the backdrop of her historical Master Classes at the Juilliard School of Music in the 70’s. Viva Verdi! is a thrill with scenes from popular titles such as MacBeth, La Forza del Destino, A Masked Ball, Rigoletto and Il Trovatore – all packed in a 90-minute program of spectacular singing and drama!
