Mixing Stations
Mixing Stations Volumetric and gravimetric Mixing Stations Range of application and functions PLASTICOLOR proportioning units and mixing stations are designed for dosing granular, free flowing and non-sticky materials. The ranges of application are all common manufacturing processes of the plastics industry, such as extrusion, injection moulding etc. Standard mixing stations consist of 2 to 8 PLASTICOLOR units, mounted on a common neckpiece. Special mixing stations for more than 8 components can be designed and supplied. In a PLASTICOLOR mixing station every individual component including the main material is dosed by a PLASTICOLOR unit into the neckpiece and thus into the production machine. The special neckpiece shape and the integrated mixing insert ensure an optimum material distribution of all individual components in the right mixing ratio, immediately on the extruder. The flow channel is designed to avoid any kind of separation. The modular design of the systems facilitates the easy and inexpensive extension of existing mixing stations or conversion from volumetric into gravimetric operati on. Setting and controlling the dosed output The mixing station is adjusted in a way to yield a total output that exceeds the maximum consumption of the production machine. This results into a continuous filling process in the neckpiece, irrespective of the material consumption of the production machine. Two sensors, mounted in the neckpiece, switch all units on and off at the same time, according to the actual material level obtained. Any fluctuations in the consumption of the production machine only affect the switching frequency, not the percentages of the total compound mix. The hoppers can optionally be equipped with a low level alarm to generate an alarm signal if one of the units is running empty. · High dosing precision by state of the art electronics and mechanics (approx. + 0.5% or better) · Extremely few premixed material residuals during sudden production changes · Material changes and tests without stopping production · No separation · Extreme mixing rations possible, e. g. 1 : 2,000 · A very good reproducibility · Recipe storage · Extensive monitoring functions, e. g. level alarm, monitoring of throughputs, an informative alarm system · High reliability, even under the toughest conditions · Field-tested and practicable options for many applications · Complete listing of all operational data and faults · Exact recording of all consumption data and production processes · All standard mixing stations and spares immediately available from stock PLASTICOLOR Mixing Station design PLASTICOLOR-Mixing Station neckpiece The optimized design of the neckpieces suits the production process in a perfect way. The perfect material flow channel is designed to avoid any kind of material separation. Different upper sections for 2- to 8-component systems are standard available. These can each be used in combination with neckpiece tubes in different sizes, depending on the output of the station. Different mixing inserts are available for many different applications. • The neckpiece adapter is designed to fit the feed opening of the according production machine. • The neckpiece tubes and the upper neckpiece sections can be turned in 15 steps, to be able to position the individual PLASTICOLOR units and the sight glass in any desired way. • Cleaning and maintenance can be done in a quick and effective way by easy-to-open sight glass ports. • The modular design permits an exchange of neckpiece tubes, upper sections, mixing inserts and adapters at any time in the case of changes of production requirements. The PLASTICOLOR Dosing Units are mounted to the common mixing station neckpiece. For this, a wide range of different PLASTICOLOR units, that can be used both as individual dosing units as well as forming a part of mixing stations, is available. Each individual unit may dose 0.15 - 2,400 kg/h, thus obtaining a high throughput versatility. For further details, please refer to our brochure „Dosing Units“. Screws and hoppers Rapid discharge devices Vacuum pumps Ionization system Magnetic separators Shut-off slides PLASTICOLOR Mixing Station with PLASTICOLOR material separators for a central, separately mounted pump and accessories for a wide range of applications Gravimetric Mixing Stations Volumetric Mixing Station with PLASTICOLOR hopper loaders (for more details, please refer to our separate brochure “Hopper loaders”) Gravimetric Mixing Station with hose connection for the direct connecting to larger containers The basic design of a gravimetric Mixing Station is identical to the one of a volumetric Mixing Station (left picture). In addition, each PLASTICOLOR unit is provided with a weigh hopper assembly (right picture). Different standard weigh hoppers for outputs between 300 and 2,800 l/h are available. Either - PLASTICOLOR hopper loaders - PLASTICOLOR material cyclones - PLASTICOLOR feed hoppers or - hose connections can be used above the weigh hopper assemblies. Function of gravimetric Mixing Stations PLASTICOLOR Gravimetric Mixing Stations work according to the “loss-in-weight” principle. The weight of each individual material component is recorded by an integrated electronic load cell. Each component is permanently and simultaneously controlled according to the required portion in % of the total mix. This system is far superior to and much more accurate than systems in which the single components are dosed one after another and only the total quantity is weighed (= gain-in-weight systems). Gravimetric Mixing Station with feed hoppers • Extremely high metering accuracy • Permanent automatic weight recording and readjustment of every individual component • No dependence on the bulk density of the material anymore • Fully automated processing • High speed stability • Easy operation of the control system • No output tests required • Considerable saving of additive materials Mounting possibilities of PLASTICOLOR Mixing Stations PLASTICOLOR Mixing Stations have the highest possible versatility, e. g… ... mounted directly on the machine feed opening Generally, a mixing station is mounted directly on the feed opening of the production machine. Adapters to fit the neckpiece are manufactured by us. ... as a central mixing station If several production machines are supplied by the PLASTICOLOR Mixing Station with the same compound, a larger material container is mounted under the neckpiece. ... next to the production machine If only one production machine is supplied with the mixture, no material container will be required. Mixing Station control – PPM system • Easy handling with only few entries required • Complete listing of all operational data and faults • exact recording of the consumption data and production processes • No output test required for volumetric Mixing Stations when using standard materials • Integrated extruder and take-off control, also for coextrusion lines • Operation also possible by means of visualization software, either on the PC or via a choice of different field bus systems (ProfiBus DP etc.).
