It’s Winter, Don’t Take a Powder, Keep in Touch
What to do with our sailing deprived selves during
winter? That is the question for early December. For the
Harland clan, we will do some skiing. The amount of daydreaming I do about warm summer days spent sailing at the
lake during the winter tends to vary inversely with the skiing conditions at Mt. Ashland. We have learned that there
are several other members of the club who are also powder
hounds and with whom we now like to share a good powder
day.
We have found that doing things with club members
during the winter is one of the best ways to build relationships. For example, last winter we strategized the Laser
class development at an occasional meeting over a less occasional beer. It was relaxed and fun. Several of us met
Jesse Repp for the first time at one of these planning sessions at 4-Daughters. This summer he was a really active
new member, but one that several of us had already gotten
to know over the winter.
In order to build relationships over the winter, club
members need to be able to get in touch with each other.
The club transitioned to an on-line roster format last season.
This was done to avoid printing costs and production hassle.
It was also done so that contact information is current because the individual members control their own data. If you
have rejoined this year or plan to, please take a few minutes
and review your contact information. If you are having
trouble logging into the member’s area of the website,
please e-mail Derek Budd or myself and we will get it
sorted out.
If your data isn’t current you could miss out on all
kinds of things this winter. What if John Wigen has a new
brew and needs you to be a taste tester? What if someone
gets the flu and can’t use their non-refundable charter in the
Caribbean? What if you need a couple extra hands to pull
the keel on your boat for repairs? RYC is a social club and
current contact information is the best way to assure social
connections can grow and strengthen.

Seventeen people renewed their memberships at the
Commodore's Dessert in November. The club really benefits
from people paying their annual dues as early as possible,
since it is easier to plan budgets for the upcoming months. If
you haven't paid your dues for the 2012-2013 year, please
send a check for $75 to the club's PO Box 723 in Medford,
97501 when you are able. Dues go up $5 after February.
Thanks for your support of our yacht club.

Commodore’s Dessert, A Good Evening for All
The annual celebration of the sailing season, the
Commodore’s Dessert and Awards Banquet, was held November 3rd at the Rogue Regency Inn. When sailors get together they always find a way to have a good time and take
care of business, too. The desserts were good, awards and
trophies were given out and the new board of directors was
officially installed.
