The
Jib
From Commodore Ray Dan-Jumbo
I hope that everyone had a great Easter, and to those of you
with children, I hope that they had fun hunting for their Easter
eggs!
For me this Easter was spent out of town and away from the
family. To those that may be unaware, I have taken a new job
working with FEMA in helping to obtain funding for disaster victims – in this case, Hurricane Sandy victims.

PLEASE HELP OUT WITH A PARTY!
YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOUR
ATTENDANCE AND EFFORT
Contact Members of
the Entertainment Committee
Although I will be away a lot, with your help I should be able to
fulfill my duties as Commodore. I would like to thank our Vice
Commodore, Adam Masters for standing in for me as has been
needed. Adam obtained a new entrance/security system for the
club. The old system, while it still worked, was very old and no
longer was able to have been serviced should it break down. The
new system will work with our current fobs so it appears that
bringing it online will be seamless. Had we been required to purchase a new system the cost would have been over $1,600.
I would also like to extend a really BIG thank you to Sue Dobmeier, Lisa McCarthy, Bob Richards, Jill Neuhaus and the rest of the
Entertainment and Banquet Committee for their hard work in
putting together the 2013 Events calendar and the recent
Yahtzee tournament. The idea behind the Yahtzee evening was
to have some fun and for people to get together and volunteer
for the NSC parties. Everyone that was at the Yahtzee tournament had a great time and I even learned a game I’d never
played before. I ask you now to please step up and sign up for
hosting a party. Your club needs you. It really can be rewarding
and fun to get more involved.
The boating season is around the corner. Hearing that the Ice
Boom has been removed is a good sign that it won’t be long before we get our boats in the water.
For those of you who are sailors or may be looking for the opportunity to get into sailing this year, we should have 2, “new to us”,
Shark 24’ sailboats. This will mean that we should be able to
have fun racing amongst ourselves in addition to racing with our
friends down at Sandy Beach Yacht Club on Sunday afternoons.
I don’t know what some of you think, but I would like to have a
day when all of us who have boats take out members who don’t,
for a day on the water and a barbeque at the club afterward.
Maybe we can incorporate it into the Water Scavenger Hunt
scheduled for August. Just a thought….

From the Vice Commodore—Adam Masters
A short recap of this year’s
events to date:
PC Ray Dan-Jumbo was installed as commodore on Jan
5th, 2013. This is Ray’s second time leading the NSC as
commodore, and we look forward to a fun and productive
year with PC Ray. This year
also marks the first time we
hosted the instillation of officers after New Year’s Day,
which proved to be a great
idea judging by the tremendous turn-out and celebration.
Included in the ceremonies
was the tribute to PC Frank
White, with wonderful
speeches from Mary Cooke,
Chuck Meyer Jr., and Jim Holler.
Tony Albano to complete their
terms as members of the
board.
A well-deserved thanks was
given to the retiring Board
members PC John Dickinson
and Ross Kaiser. These gents
have served gallantly on the
board for many years, and to
them, we are all grateful. A
glad welcome to the new
board members Chris Neuhause, and back by popular
demand, John (Ziey) Cownie.
Commodore Ray has filled in
his officer chairs with Steve
Rogers as our Fleet Captain,
and PC Tony Albano as Rear
Commodore.
Welcome
aboard, and welcome back!
Secretary Rick Russo and
Fleet Captain Dan Deboy resigned from the club in late
2012, and the board has appointed Greg Pratt and PC
From RC Tony Albano.
The Spring Work party is
scheduled for April 27th.

This makes for easier accounting of
each item billed. As for chits, you can
pay them any time by mailing the check
to the Club or dropping it off in an envelope in the safe in the room next to the

From FC Steve Rogers.
Hello Boaters / Jet Skiers,
This year, the board approved a change in the bylaws regarding payment for
boat slips which now states
that payment must be received along with proof
of insurance by June 1st
in order to keep your current slip. After June 2nd,
the slips will be assigned
on a first come, first served
basis, so please send in
your boat slip request
along with proof of insurance, and your check as
soon as possible to avoid
any issues. Please keep in
mind that all 3 documents check, request form and
proof of insurance, must
be received to have your
slip considered “reserved.”
ASAP to let me know if you
are intending on retaining
your slip, or if I can make it
available to another member.
Please respond to this
Fleet Captain
Thank You for your prompt
consideration.

A hearty thank you to Laurie
Manuszewski for expertly handling the NSC Jib for the past
nine years. She has kept the
wind in this sail and has been
the driving force of nudging the
officers to put their pens to paper for the needed articles. I
will now be at the helm, and
encourage the officers to
please send me your monthly
articles by the 15th of each
month to be able to get the Jib
up
and
out.
And don’t forget folks,
If you have a Facebook ac-
count, “Like” us (Niagara Sailing
Club Grand Island) and get in
touch with members’ comments, pictures, and party flyers!

From The Chartroom …...
New membership applications
have been accepted by the board
from the following:
- Scott and Elizabeth Boyko
Sponsored by Scott Henderson
and Greg Pratt.
- Cap Cooke
Son of PC Jeff Cooke and Mary
Cooke. Cap expertly sails the
Sharks, Lasers, Sunfish and is
now the proud owner of a new
Hobie Cat.
A hardy “Welcome Back” goes
out to Hank Morgan returning to
the NSC as a full member. Hank is
now also recuperating from back
surgery, so please keep him in
your thoughts!
~ The two events are, I believe,
unrelated.
