We have already completing the summer 2013... Looking behind, we see that has been a very intensive high season for many of our stations... Due to this very loaded period; while saying “Hello” to all; I would like to mention “motivation” on this issue. Regarding to motivation and motivating.... The word “motivation” itself is motivational, isn’t it? Can you, little bit, spend some time on the following questions; What are your tools to motivate, how you behave to feel good? What are your ways to make peace with yourself? Which of your characteristics you like more, do you expect to be recognized by others or you motivate yourself? Each person would probably use one or more motivational tools; but there is one very important commun approach which brings everyone together; Positive thinking... A “just in time” greeting with a sincere smile is really lightning the day...The positive thinking attracts the positive. Most of the times, we probably experienced that when we think positive, we face the positive happenings or positive responses. Could this be a way to motivate ourselves when we motivate others, this probably means; when we motivate others, they think positive about us, and this calls positive for us...so goes on... Please try to greet someone nearby although you don’t know him/her, you would receive probably a greeting in return, this could be the start for a new frinedship, or partnership etc. whatever you think for others, you receive the same by others... If we come back to our professional life; Talk about the awards we won whenever you would find the occasion; Don’t expect to be congratulaed by others, you have already won the award!but think about the fascination of awards, about similar sucesses which will bring the positive thinking. You are a member of an awarded company! New successes are motivating tools for new successes, new awards...There is a saying in Turkish; ”Egg from a chicken or chicken from an egg?” The motivation caused by the glory and award and its irresistible attraction! With my best wishes for further successes; Thank you in advance to meet under “my success” headline in next issue Kind regards, Leyla İrten On behalf of Çelebice Editorial Committee ÇELEBİCE 6 ÇELEBİCE 7 ÇELEBİCE news From the eyes of kids The 7-10 age group children of the Çelebi Holding employees met at the traditional 23 April Painting Contest. ÇELEBİCE 8 ÇELEBİCE 9 ÇELEBİCE LOOK Ikarus will be implemented by Çelebi Austria, following Turkey and India... Website: our extravert face! Skills management The “skills management” process initiated by Çelebi is an important tool that raises awareness for identifying and not losing personnel with high work performance leadership-management potential which we named as skill. The process aims to raise persons for critical positions of the company. IKARUS PERIOD Flight Information and Ground Handling Management system, Ikarus will be implemented by Çelebi Austria, following Turkey and India. Çelebi Austria has started activities in Schwechat Airport, Vienna by taking over Fraport Ground Services in November 2011. With 239 staff, Çelebi Austria gives quality and reliable service to airlines such as British Airways, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Air France, Alitalia, Iberia and Finnair. Sharing information by many systems Ikarus offers possibility of managing flight information and services at more than one station simultaneously by many adaptable definitions such as park positions, airline groups, airlines and delay codes. Application can receive and update SITA flight data online and send SITA messages. At Ataturk Airport, the CDM application of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority can share flight information by TAV’s XI and ROTA (RMS) applications. Besides, it helps provide daily exchange rates to systems of Çelebi Aviation Holding through integration with the Central Bank. Going into production in Mumbai on August 2010, Ikarus was adjusted to conditions in India by joint efforts of Turkish and Mumbai teams. First destination in Europe: Vienna Test environment was installed and needs analysis was completed during the first visit to Vienna location end of 2012 November. Following completion of required arrangements, Vienna location was visited for the second time in the beginning of February and testing started with real life scenarios. Installing Ikarus was advised for situations where automation was inefficient in new locations. In this context, preliminary work has started to install Ikarus in Delhi, the second location in India. Thanks to the possibilities offered by today’s technologies, it will be possible to meet the needs of the business units more efficiently by adapting Ikarus to internet and mobile platforms, developing modules such as resource planning and finance, and integration of more comprehensive flight planning. The skills management process that was initiated this year in Çelebi Aviation Holding and Çelebi Ground Services has the following criteria: All officers and higher positions are included. The candidates should be a Çelebi employee for at least 6 months. He/she should be a permanent full time employee and officials should be at least high school graduate and should speak intermediate level English. The next phase requires undergoing an occupational personality questionnaire by those who fulfil these criteria. The proficiency (*) based results revealed by the answers of the individuals and the performance evaluation results are compared, and in the process, the views of the department managers are taken on the related personnel. A process cycle can be seen above, and the proficiency used in computation below. We can call the website as a personal/corporate bulletin board on internet, the media of our era. As we all know, it is possible to share information to promote our company to larger masses (all over the world) most economically thanks to the internet and website. introduced before the end of summer 2013, the “aviation” sector website under Çelebi Holding will be updated. When updating the existing Çelebi websites was in question, it had been decided to start a pilot application. Following efforts by a “website team” set up for the project initiated under the coordination of Institutional Communication Department and which belonged to Cargo Services and Warehouse Operations and Global Sales/Marketing, the preliminary work made for Frankfurt Cargo was completed on December 2012 and introduced on 25 January 2013. After the required permissions were obtained, simultaneous efforts were started for the websites of other cargo units in February. Cargo Web Pages’ Team Members: ›› Çelebi Cargo Frankfurt: Sanlı Şekercioğlu and Sevda Girgin. ›› Çelebi Cargo Hungary: Osman Yılmaz, Laszlo Trifan and Ballint Kenderes. ›› Çelebi Cargo Delhi: Rajesh Goel and Manish Mishra. ›› Çelebi Cargo İstanbul: Semih Altuğ, Murat Baş and Meryem Albayrak. Our aviation website: A similar preparation process was initiated for the Çelebi Ground Handling website together with the demo websites of the cargo services, and preparations on the individual websites of the units continue with related authorities assigned by the units themselves. Aviation Web Pages’ Team Members: ›› ÇGH Hungary: Laszlo Jakab and Balint Kendres. ›› ÇGH Delhi: Sharad Trijoriya and Imtiyaz Hussain. ›› ÇGH Istanbul: Hayri Güntel, Sedef Pakyürek and Sevinç Karagöz ›› ÇGH Vienna: Martina Loparis. ›› ÇGH Mumbai: Tansu Ciğeroğlu and Sapna Bhandari. Following the renewal of our “ground handling” website scheduled to be Business processes are standardised in Çelebi Çelebi Process Standardisation Programme which covers İstanbul Ataturk, Sabiha Gökçen, Antalya and Delhi cargo and particularly the general directorate, will later be used by all stations in Turkey and globally, and other group companies.Rapidly growing and representing Turkish Aviation Sector successfully with international investments and activities, Çelebi continues to take big and confident steps on the path to become a significant actor of the global economy in its field of activity. This rapid growth is possible with the growth of company’s institutional identity at the same pace and company’s moving further from the point it stands, and management of existing systems and business processes more efficiently, productively and systematically. “Çelebi Process Standardisation Programme” aims to better operational and administrative processes of Çelebi Aviation Holding and make this standardisation logic a part of the company culture. By full support of the senior management, nearly 120 employees were given process standardisation training. Because those who know the processes are the ones who recently fulfil them, the efforts were initiated with 85 process champions from the general directorate. Despite the fact that a process standardisation work was carried out and process standardisation drawings were made for the first time in Çelebi, the work with our champions yielded very successful results. Outlining business processes and drawing work flow diagram are very important steps for Çelebi. Because a company’s internal processes should be known very well to have information about the functioning of the company. As a result, the defective points in the company processes can be fixed by our personnel who do the job and external point of view of experts through efforts to standardise the processes. Consequently, it will make our personnel, not only employees who do the job, but also who develop the job. ÇELEBİCE 10 11 ÇELEBİCE ÇELEBİCE LOOK Shailesh Sharma, has joined Çelebi as the Operation Director recently. He knows the expectations of the airlines thanks to his 20 years of experience in airline companies and aims to increase Çelebi’s service quality further under the final target of providing customer happiness. "We have set out with the responsibility of being the first" Justified pride of pioneering consolidated with success ÇGH Hungary Country Director Osman Yılmaz set their target as “we have set out with the responsibility of being the first and we want to be Europe’s best ground handling point.” We have listened about the ÇGH Hungary, which is the first international investment of Çelebi Family, contributing to the country’s economy significantly with a total of 600 employees, from the Country Director Osman Yılmaz: Could you brief us on ÇGH Hungary? Our station can meet all expectations of the customers with ramp and passenger services, load control, ticket sale, VIP services, lounge service, warehousing and general aviation services. ÇGH Hungary has not lowered its market share below 50 percent despite the economic crises in previous years and the fact that there are four ground handling firms in the market. ÇGH Hungary displays a dynamic stance with continuous betterment projects and increases productivity to ensure sustainable profitability. In 2012, services were provided for 27,148 flights and 70,525 tons of cargo services were given. Recently, service is provided for nearly 35 cargo flights a week, and 8 of these flights are “freighter” (Cargolux/ Turkish/Qatar) flights. And other 14 of these flights are “integrator” (TNT,UPS, FedEx) flights. Çelebi Hungary Cargo’s airport and external warehouses giving road feeder services (RFS) have reached a total of 12,000 square-metres. Are there any plans that come to the fore concerning ÇGH Hungary? We stepped up efforts as a team for restructuring and rising productivity initiated by Atilla Korkmazoğlu, the first General Director of the Company. Within this scope, “real time” module of “Inform Groundstar” was introduced successfully as of the beginning of 2013. Every kind of support is given to our Vienna branch (the distance between two stations is nearly 260 km.) which joined our family in the end of 2011, and we targeted to ensure productivity and optimisation of the general directorate by rendering some activities of the units at the general directorate as joint action. And also, the need for equipment was optimised and 3 passenger buses and 2 VIP passenger buses were transferred from Budapest to our Vienna station. Hungary’s largest ÇGH Hungary Cargo Department which provides service to 97 percent of the country exerts immense efforts to protect its position and develop it further As ÇGH Hungary Cargo Department, we provide services with 3 directors, 4 ‘lead agents’ and a total of 200 employees. We have started serious efforts to renew our equipment together particularly with the external warehouse unit that we put to service in previous years. We are working for customer satisfaction! Çelebi Ground Handling Delhi comes to the forefront as the company’s third initiative after Budapest and Mumbai. ÇHS had won the contract put out to tender by Delhi İndira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) manager Delhi International Airport Private Ltd. (DIAL) for airport ground handling services for 10 years on 18 November 2013. Çelebi Ground Handling Delhi received its safety permission on 8 May 2010 and initiated services as of 2 June 2010. International Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport is the eight biggest airport of the world. Çelebi recently provides services to nearly 500 flights a month. It has nearly 900 employees working at passenger services/ramp and operation services. How is business of Çelebi Ground Handling Delhi in India? We have encountered a fierce competition since the first day we entered ground handling market in Delhi as the fourth and the last company. In such an environment, you have to create a difference to be successful. Yet, thanks to Çelebi being a world-wide known brand, we are not unfamiliar to many airlines in Delhi. By uninterrupted investments in quality, stable operational productivity, an efficient and customer-oriented management understanding, and policy of investing in latest technology instruments, and trained efficient personnel in nice and elegant uniforms, Çelebi succeeded to have nearly 22 percent share in the market by signing contracts with leading airlines. What are the plans of the company for the future and what are the recent advances? In the near future, we desire to scale up by starting general aviation, reception, and maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) services. Yet, when we look at from a general perspective, our main target is to go beyond “customer satisfaction” and create “customer happiness”: we are working to make that happen! This will be our turning point in Delhi. ISAGO Çelebi draws attention because it is the sole ground handling company in Delhi which managed to receive ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and BS OHSAS 18001:2007 certificates only in two years after it commenced operations. ISAGO certificate will be a very important milestone in Çelebi’s history in Delhi. ‘What are your plans to increase service quality to reach the target of Customer Happiness? As a well-known brand, with its professional approach, being the only ground handling company which uses newest and highest technology instruments, and having stylish and beautiful uniforms, Çelebi already has created a difference in Delhi, and brought Delhi airport a breath of fresh air. A company’s success depends on its cadres. That’s why, we started to focus more on personnel development. Besides, we try to motivate the personnel by appreciating them more and through organisation of social activities. Also, we have started “employee of the month” practice and some similar activities to encourage a healthy competition between the personnel. Our efforts on personal coaching continue to make them gain a vision concerning their future. This will be a practice that will automatically increase their feelings of responsibility toward their job and company. I started fishing when I was an eight years old primary school student. Then, we used to fish at the old dam in Adana. Do you remember the first fish you caught? Of course I do. It was a fresh-water fish called silver bream. Which type of fish do you like to catch and eat? I like both fishing and eating trout. I grill them. İsmail Erdoğan, a driver working at Çelebi Ground Handling Adana Station, has told about key points of fishing, which he started when he was eight years old. Çelebi Ground Handling Erzurum station passenger services chief Gökhan Demirdöken’s adventure as a referee has started in 2010. At that period, Demirdöken who was a student at Hacettepe University was not thinking being a referee at all. Demirdöken has applied to the Turkish Football Federation upon his brother’s advice. After he received a positive answer to his application, he took a training course organised by the Turkish Football Federation in Ankara. Completing the course with success, he started his career as a referee. Noting that he left behind two and a half years as a football referee, Demirdöken said, “When I look behind, I feel happiness and joy of not losing the excitement of my first day as a referee.” Demirdöken is also interested in futsal; that is, hall football, which is recently becoming popular in our country, and also acts as a referee for futsal games. ''Big Dreams'' Çelebi Ground Handling Sabiha Gökçen station passenger services official Barış Karavit shared with us how he started music and his dreams for the future. young, and he made me take guitar lessons by reducing kitchen expenses despite the fact that their financial situation was bad. My father’s great effort which lead me to make radio programme, teach guitar, and made me look more naively to the world in time, is very sacred for me. I left the radio during the last economic crisis and right after that, I started working for Çelebi… I wanted to play guitar when I was a little kid. I never forget. My father was very pleased because he also played guitar when he was Demo records, and a few concerts have never satisfied me. A project with friends from Çelebi, regardless of their playing an instrument or not, to make blues in Turkish with a blend of contemporary sounds after I completed my military service, excites me very much. I have written scenarios for a TV series and 5 full length movies, and a theatre play. These texts also wait for me to remove the dust over them after I came back from the military service. As poet Nazım [Hikmet] said, men’s wings are in their hearts. I am waiting for the right time to give spirit to those wings. We are our dreams…” Do you have a principle in fishing? Yes, showing patience and caring for my fishing gear lead these principles. Do you have a funny memory? One day, I was fishing together with friends at Seyhan dam. Everywhere was very dark because there was no moon. A naughty friend secretly tied a string to the fishing bell which we tied to our fishing hooks and kept pulling the string every 10 minutes. I spooled the fishing line may be for 15 times by thinking that a fish bit the bait, but saw nothing. Finally he could not continue any longer and showed me the string. He told me that he was joking with me. Is there anything else you want to say? I advise fishing to anyone because it prevents stress most effectively and teaches patience to men. "Bağlama (a stringed musical instrument) is in my bloods, it is not possible for me to leave it.” Sezai Seçen, a ÇGH Sabiha Gökçen passenger services (lost and found) counter personnel, whose interest in bağlama continued for a long time, took bağlama lessons when he was at high school. By the advice of his friends, he decided to take stage as he was successfully continuing to take bağlama lessons because of his love for music. He has received negative reactions in several places because of his lack of required background and sufficient repertoire. Underlining that every negative experience encouraged him further because he loved music so much, he said he has finally received the reward for his efforts and determination. He started to play bağlama in many places, and joined the bands playing for leading singers. Noting that “this had been a great opportunity for proving myself,” Seçen said, “I have found the taste, happiness and love in music.” Underlining that he speaks with his bağlama when he stays alone, Seçen said, “whenever I feel the need to express myself, I either sing a song or play bağlama. This is something innate. It is in my blood. Is it not possible for me to leave it.” 14 AWARDED QUESTIONS Capital - 1 May 2013 Press Releases January- July 2013” We expect more press releases from Çelebi abroad.
