The diocese seeks to develop initiatives that will lead our young people to further encounters with Christ including formation, spirituality and service. Our goals for ministry with youth will reflect those of the greater Church such as: Empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today; Draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community; and Foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. PARISHIONER BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT FOR SEPTEMBER: Life Expressions Chiropractic / Dr. Denise Smaglinski, D.C. 417‐413‐3232 or dcdenise86@gmail.com 5 Liturgy 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time: The first reading encourages us to keep our minds on God, not on worldly concerns. In the second reading, Paul sends Onesimus back to his owner Philemon, with the hope that Philemon will take him back not as a slave but as a brother. Today’s Gospel reminds us that faithful discipleship requires taking up our cross each day and following Jesus. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord… Bishop Rice’s Intentions for September 2016 As we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Sept. 14), may each member of our diocese see in the setbacks and sorrows of life, an opportunity to "glory in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, in whom is our salvation, life, and resurrection." And as we celebrate the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul (Sept. 27), may the fire of charity burn bright as we minister to the spiritually and materially poor and suffering of our diocese. Please remember to pray for and visit our shut‐ins and nursing home residents: Jenny Ham, Carmen Ascenio, John DeSano, Merlyn Haag, Michael Leggins, and Jane McMillen. Please pray for the sick: Richard Sabonis, Fr. Bob Landewe (stroke), Clyde Gourley (surgery), Deacon Mike Steele, Jerry Cox (surgery), Roger Prai (surgery). St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. New to the area? Moved recently?
