This mass setting is included in the resource Lift Up Your Hearts: Music for the Order of Mass,
a collection of ten mass settings published by Liturgical Press. Information about this resource is
available on our web site: www.TheRomanMissal.org
The people’s edition of Lift Up Your Hearts contains the Order of Mass—including the ICEL
chants—plus the ten mass settings. The people’s edition is small (104 pages at 4 ¼ x 6 ¾) and sold
in packs of 10 books. An affordable resource, bulk pricing is as low as $1.49 per copy when you
order 210 or more copies.
The accompaniment edition of Lift Up Your Hearts (8 ½ x 11, spiral bound) includes the ten mass
settings plus Fr. Anthony Ruff ’s accompaniment for the ICEL chants.
Lift Up Your Hearts contains everything an assembly needs to transition from the current Roman
Missal to the third edition.
Each of the mass settings in Lift Up Your Hearts, plus the accompaniment for the ICEL chants,
will also be sold individually as PDF documents that can be download and copied. A link to each
mass setting is provided online at: www.TheRomanMissal.org
Please feel free to forward this electronic PDF review copy to other musicians and pastoral
ministers in your diocese. If you have any questions, please contact me:

Performance Notes
This acclamation works best a cappella. Keyboard and guitar accompaniments are provided for use when
necessary. The first refrain should always be sung in unison without accompaniment.
The refrain may be sung first by a cantor or choir, with all repeating, or all may join in immediately.
For the verses, either: (a) the tone and alleluias overlap slightly; (b) there is no overlap, but the verse is still
divided into two parts within the Alleluias; or (c) the cantor sings the verse alone without the assembly singing
the Alleluias surrounding the verse. In this case, the cantor could still sing the final two alleluia measures
following the verse, leading back into the refrain.
R
For the final refrain, the voices may use the same SATB harmonies as for the interpolations in the verses.
Any verse from the Lectionary for Mass (Leccionario or Lectionarium) may be used with this setting.

Performance Notes
For a short acclamation, sing once through. For a more extended gospel procession, use ‘invocations’ 2 and 3 of the
refrain in addition, or substitute other texts ad libitum.
Percussion will be of great help in establishing the rhythm of this 7/8 piece.

* For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

Performance Notes
To broaden this multilingual setting of the Agnus Dei, the Cantor and/or choir could include other languages, as
desired, with the congregation responding miserére nobis (dona nobis pacem).
“The supplication Agnus Dei, is, as a rule, sung by the choir or cantor with the congregation responding; or it is, at least,
recited aloud. This invocation accompanies the fraction and, for this reason, may be repeated as many times as necessary
until the rite has reached its conclusion, the last time ending with the words dona nobis pacem (grant us peace).”
