I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this
bread will live forever.
— John 6:51
BETWEEN OURSELVES
From Fr. Cyprian
I will anticipate nothing about the parking lot: the time
table, the cost etc. Not out of despair but trust, trusting
that everything happens “in His time and His manner”.
Our calculations have been terribly off and anyone who is
involved in construction or makeover projects knows
what I am talking about. It is my hope that when you
come in this weekend the sight will be much less of a
‘hassle’ compared to last weekend. On a consoling note
my fears and hesitations have been completely blown off
by the understanding and accommodation that the
parishioners have been showing. It is a need long
overdue and a accomplishment certainly worth waiting
for. So let us walk in His speed and under His
governance.
Even more consoling and encouraging is the
enthusiasm being manifested by those working on the
parking lot sale, the donors (in kind and cash) and
volunteers. Names later, but on the part of several
people there is almost a ‘stubbornness’ saying “we will
see that this is done”. So they are going all out to prepare
and set up for the various events. It is only your
participation and cooperation that will make all these
efforts worthwhile and fruitful. The financial part of the
project did seem to be a major worry at one point; it does
not seem so any more. Your generosity has been
surprising but not unexpected.
I want to welcome Fr. Dejus who will be with us for a
month. After 12 years of teaching assignment in the
Radio and Television Institute belonging to be Bishops’
Conference of India, he is taking a well-deserved break.
Some of his qualifications and experiences include, video
photography, computer animations etc. I am proud of my
former student and wish him a happy and relaxed stay
with us. He chose to run away from the confusion and
crowds of the Olympics in London where he has been
doing parish ministry for the last one month.
Once again it is time to evangelize by helping people to
accept or to return to sacraments. The date for the first
RCIA session is Sept. 11th (!). Already around 20 have
expressed the desire to join the process. Hopefully in the
Lord’s vineyard it will once again be another bountiful
harvest. “The Lord has no hands or feet except yours.”
So look around, go out, invite.
Finally, we welcome our school faculty, the students,
especially the new admissions, to another school year.
Once again it is soon going to be smiles, bright faces,
activity and another year on the path of formation and
education. We are proud of our school which is growing
in leaps and bounds thanks to the staff under the
leadership of the Principal, Chris Benner. Your constant
financial support to the school has always eased the
situation.
Hoping you and your families had a restful as well as
productive summer, let us accept this another year as
one of God’s gifts and move forward in faith, worship and
service. God bless you and your families.
I would love to hear from you.

WHOLE COMMUNITY CATECHESIS
Reflection: In our first reading Elijah has grown weary
from his journey in the desert and lays down to die. Yet,
encouraged by the angel of God to drink and eat, he
does so and completes his journey to the mountain of
God. In the Gospel, Jesus is at great pains to teach the
Jews that he is the bread of life from heaven and those
that believe in him do so through his Father. He refers
both to Isaiah (54:13) and Jeremiah (31:33-34) when he
quotes the prophets, “They shall all be taught by God.”
Question of the Week: What is the bread of life which
Jesus offers? Do you accept Jesus as the bread of life?
Resolution: God offers his people abundant life, but we
can miss it. The bread of life is first of all the life of God
himself -- life which sustains us not only now in this age
but also in the age to come. The Rabbis said that “the
generation in the wilderness will have no part in the
life to come.” In the Book of Numbers it is recorded that
the people who refused to brave the dangers of the
“promised land” were condemned to wander in the
wilderness until they died. The Rabbis believed that the
father who missed the “promised land” also missed the
life to come. When Jesus offers us real life he brings us
into a new relationship with God, a relationship of trust,
love, and obedience. And he offers us real life which
lasts forever, a life of love, fellowship, communion, and
union with the One who made us in love to be his
forever. To refuse Jesus is to refuse eternal life,
unending life with the Heavenly Father. To accept Jesus
as the bread of heaven is not only life and spiritual
nourishment for this world but glory in the world to come.

From Fr. Bill
When I was a kid there were two things that could start a
fight. You could talk trash about me, but a rude comment
about my mother or my sisters, then I felt obligated to
make them “take it back” even if they were older and
bigger than me. Your friends knew that was a line you
didn’t cross, and if you did, you weren’t a friend.
Fathers, uncles, grandfathers, godfathers and brothers
who love the females in your life, they need your loving
assistance… and I will with pleasure “take back” what I am
about to write about some of them. Additionally, I do
apologize to everyone for writing about this because it feels
awkward and immodest for me to address this, yet like the
children’s story “The Emperor’s New Clothes” I need to say
that some of our daughters are proudly parading about
seemingly unaware that they are leaving nothing to the
imagination.
We tend to blame the women for how they dress, but I
think in doing so we ignore the responsibility of the males.
Dads, you need to be more jealous of your women. Be
responsible and attentive to how your children dress. We
as males know when someone is dressed in a way to
arouse “lust” rather than respect. And if we allow our
daughters to leave the house dressed in such a manner,
we show them a lack of respect in failing to teach them that
certain dress or undress should be reserved to marriage
and the privacy of one’s home, not put out on display as a
free “peep-show.” I don’t know what is in mother’s minds
when they help their daughters pick out their clothing..
maybe they have surrendered to their daughter’s need to
“dress like everyone else,” but dads need to show some
courage, and man-up for your women.
Parents need to take the time and ask several questions.
Only if and when you know that “all the bases are covered”
should your daughter be allowed to go out. If you can’t tell
by an initial inspection, ask her to: sit down, cross her legs,
uncross them, stand up again, and bend over. If these
can’t be done modestly, this clothing should be retired. Our
women need to know that they are beautiful and precious
for who they are, and not for the lust and envy they can
create.
Remember, how we allow our daughters to dress
reveals how we respect them, and teach them. Modesty
and self-control are fruits of the Holy Spirit, however these
qualities require education and formation… and not by our
non-Christian, perhaps anti-Christian culture, but by the
people who love and care for them, wanting for them both
holiness and happiness.
Sadly, at last April’s Confirmation Mass, one of the
“sponsors” had great difficulty in sitting down. I am
confounded by adults who dress up like they are “meat on
sale,” rather than present to “meet the Lord.” No teacher or
preacher can undo the teaching a child’s adult’s poor
example that has been consistently modeled.
We need to dress modestly, not just in church, but
wherever we go. Also, please do complement appropriate
dress, both to child and parent, as we all need
encouragement in the face of the battle with the flesh.
I am sorry for talking trash, but if it applies to your
daughter, niece, or granddaughter… or even wife… do
something to make me “take it back.”
Sr. Margaret Mary

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Every Friday
Friday 9 a.m. — Saturday 8:30 a.m.
On August 19, 1917 Our Lady of Fatima said that there
are more souls going to Hell because there is no one to
pray and make sacrifices for them. The value of your
sacrifice is expressed in the Reparation Prayer of Fatima: “
My God, I believe, I adore, I trust, and I love Thee. I beg
pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not
trust, and do not love Thee.”
~Fr. Martin Lucia- Perpetual Adoration
We need your sacrifice on Friday at 8PM for this month.
Can you commit? Please call Rachel 659-3785.

A MESSAGE FROM ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
In this Gospel we find that for Jesus, the cost is the
cross. The love that Jesus reveals through the symbol of
the cross is: self-giving, sacrificial, healing, forgiving, in
solidarity with the weak, confident in the power of God.
Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul your heart becomes a “listening heart” to the
hungry, the homeless and the struggling poor.
