President’s
Message
by Stephanie Tyler
We had a hugely successful Business and Consumer Expo on October 23rd. Once again, there was
a sell-out of vendors who did a
remarkable job representing their
businesses to numerous potential
clients in attendance. A thank you
goes out to our Gold, Silver and
Bronze sponsors, food donors and
door prize donors. Your contributions were instrumental in ensuring
the success of this year’s Expo.
A special thanks to our Executive
Director, Christine Albrecht, and the
Expo committee for putting together
another wonderful event. Your hours
of hard work and planning are appreciated. Can’t wait for next year!
November 20 is our last meeting of
the year. This is the meeting where
we recognize veterans and their
service. It’s a wonderful tribute not
to be missed. I hope each of you
can attend.
Finally, please put this year’s Chamber holiday party on your calendar,
Thursday, December 4. It’s a fun
night and it’s also when we award
the winners of the Chamber’s Business Person of Year, Most Improved
Property and Citizen of the Year.
This is the last newsletter of the year
and it also wraps up my first year
as the Chamber’s president. I want
to say it’s been a privilege to serve
this amazing organization. It’s been
a pleasure getting to know each of
you and working with a wonderful
board of directors.
Next Meeting…

Dennis L. Woeltje of Cape Girardeau, was elected as the Missouri Department Commander during the 2015 American Legion Department of Missouri Convention held in Jefferson City at the
Capitol Plaza Hotel.
A Navy veteran of the Vietnam era, he attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Traning Center
near Chicago. During his 32 year military career as a Navy Seabee Reservist he served with
various Seabee Units including NMCB 28, CBMU 302, RNCF SU4, NMCB 15 and RNCB 25.
Following his years in the Navy, he worked at Proctor and Gamble Paper Products for 25 years
as a line operator/mechanic. Mr. Woeltje has lived all his life in Cape Girardeau County. After
graduating from Jackson Sr. High in 1967 he attended South East MO College for 3 semesters
before he joined the navy.
He has been a member of Louis K. Juden American Legion Post 63 at Cape Girardeau since
2003. Mr. Woeltje has served as Post 63 Commander, District 14 Commander, and Zone 4 Vice
Commander representing the Southeast Missouri area.
Since Mr. Woeltje has been involved with the Legion he has served and chaired on several
committees including the Commander’s Sub-committee, Insurance Committee, Leadership Committee, Education and Scholarship Committee, and Chair of the Legion Riders Committee. He
also served as the Liaison Officer between the American Legion Dept. of MO. and the American
Legion Riders Dept of MO. He is a 40&8 member at the Voiture 1321, Sons of the American
Legion Detachment 63, American Legion Rider Chapter 158, and also a member of ANIVICUS
(Army, Navy, & Air Force Veterans in Canada).
He has much pride and admiration for the many posts and legionnaires across Missouri as they
assist our veterans and youth. Veterans serving veterans – It’s what we do!
Dennis’s wife Sheryl Smith is also very active in the American Legion, having just finished 2 successful years as District 14’s Commander. Sheryl is also actively campaigning for Zone 4 Vice
Commander. By their former marriages Sheryl and Dennis have three sons. So far they have a
total of four grandchildren, three granddaughters and a grandson. All three sons are members

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS – EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS SIGN-UP
As part of the City of Brentwood’s ongoing Emergency Preparedness activities we
want to help our residents, businesses, schools and civic organizations be prepared
for fire, weather and other contingencies.
Brentwood is a thriving business and residential area. Therefore, to ensure public safety, our fire, police
and EMS professionals plan and train for a wide variety of emergencies. Situations
can often develop rapidly and often unexpectedly, and we will be here to respond and to manage situations
as they unfold.
Taking time to review your own emergency plans and being ready to receive and distribute communication to
your family, employees and visitors in case of an emergency greatly expands our capabilities and effectiveness
in an emergency. Please visit the City’s web site at www.brentwoodmo.org to obtain links and documents
related to Emergency Preparedness. The direct link to this information is www.brentwoodmo.org/prepare
to assist you with planning and response when you need to be prepared during an emergency.
We also encourage our citizens and businesses to sign up for the CodeRED Notification System. This system
provides the City the ability to quickly and efficiently inform residents and businesses in an affected area of an
impending or current emergency via a phone call, email or text message. To sign up on line, go to the City’s
website www.brentwoodmo.org and select the CodeRED button on the home page. If you do not have
access to the internet, please call 314-963-8691, leave your name, phone number, and address and we will
call you back as soon as possible.
As always, we maintain an open line of communication between City officials and the community.
Any questions, comments or for further information, contact us at 314.962.4800.
Sincerely,
Bola Akande, City Administrator
