A year in which we persevered, beyond the national vicissitudes, in our purpose of making true, day to day, the ideal that the Foundation has hoisted for sixteen years and which is none other than contributing to the improvement of living conditions of the families and persons that coexist and are related to the Jose Cuervo companies. With satisfaction, we can affirm that the efforts carried out in the execution of the diverse programs, projects and activi- JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 ties of the Foundation, in Tequila, La Laja, the Sierra and the agave region, yielded results that encourage us to persist, with decision and hope, on the road we have set out on, the way of our Integral Model of Local Development, to contribute to elevate the quality of life in many communities. We are certain that in this way, we add our contribution to that of many exemplary Mexicans who, in different trenches, fight for a better Mexico. This year we continue to apply support and attention in the areas of health, education, values, culture, etc., covering practically all sectors of the population, from children to seniors. In a special manner we gave a great impulse to programs targeting children and teenagers with the certainty that the care for these sectors, frequently vulnerable to diverse threats, will result in a healthier, addiction-free society. In addition, the support destined to infrastructure improvements for several schools aims to this end. Among other achievements, we are also glad that the human development programs for the family, women and youths had a high demand and assistance this year, as well as the consolidation of several micro-business projects we have been driving and strengthening for several years. / 3 In the country’s current circumstances and in the future, it is imposed that we continue to act with tenacity and hope, with positive vision and with social responsibility, because all Mexicans are indispensable to forge the project of a better country for everyone, especially for the needy, and because we can all contribute our bit for the achievement of said objective. I sincerely thank Casa Cuervo for its unconditional support; our honorable advisors for their sage and constant proximity; to every person and institution that generously collaborated; and the team of the foundation for their commitment and dedication. Thanks to all for making 2014 a year of advances for the Jose Cuervo Foundation benefiting many families and persons. Sra. Doris L. de Beckmann WITH SATISFACTION, WE CAN AFFIRM THAT THE EFFORTS CARRIED OUT YIELDED RESULTS THAT ENCOURAGE US TO PERSIST, WITH DECISION AND HOPE ON THE ROAD WE HAVE SET OUT ON… 4 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 MISSION “ To contribute to elevate the quality of life of the communities where the Jose Cuervo companies are inserted” is the mission assigned to the Jose Cuervo Foundation (JCF) since its creation in the year of 1998. According to its mission, the JCF develops its social work in the communities of the municipalities of Tequila and Zapotlanejo, in its political deputation of La Laja. In both municipalities are located, respectively, the distilleries of “La Rojeña” and “Camichines”, of Casa Cuervo. However, and beyond its territorial focalization, for the JCF the essential content of its mission is definitive: to elevate people’s quality of life. This means to provide the means and conditions for people to achieve the sufficient satisfactors not only in their physical material nature (health, housing, work…), but also in regards to their ethicalsocial area (education, values, family integration, self improvement…). JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 VISION T o be a model institution in social management, aligned to the commitment and demands of the company’s Social Responsibility. For this matter, the JCF has developed its Integral Model of Local Development (IMLD) which allows it to cover all society sectors and promote the material wellness of the communities where it operates, as well as the social development through the promotion of the practice of values that dignify the human being. VALORES H onesty: coherent and sincere behavior in saying and doing. Compromise: work with complete dedication and tenacity. Efficiency: transparent application and optimum management of resources. Generosity: to go beyond the strict duty in service to others. Loyalty: to promote and defend the Institution. Teamwork: to make strength and union by avoiding personal interests. TO CONTRIBUTE TO ELEVATE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE COMMUNITIES WHERE THE JOSE CUERVO COMPANIES ARE INSERTED. / 5 6 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 ACTION AREAS D uring 2014 it was satisfactory for the JCF to answer to multiple demands of the population, both in Tequila and in La Laja, stemming from diverse areas. This was possible thanks to the territorial focalization of its labor in communities close to the Jose Cuervo companies. In other words, said scheme or reality allowed the JC Foundation to work in greater depth and spaces in favor of said communities. In the following pages we offer an evaluative summary of the achieved goals as well as the benefits obtained in the following areas: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Health Area Education Area Productivity Area Culture Area Values Area JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 40 THOUSAND 697 INHABITANTS IN TEQUILA 2 THOUSAND 845 INHABITANTS IN LA LAJA LA LAJA TEQUILA CHAPALA LAKE GUADALAJARA / 7 8 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 HEALTH AREA A ware of the importance of this factor in society and, particularly, in each person, the JCF kept, in 2014, its contributions to the health of the population, through medical aids granted to persons and families, as well as through economic support to institutions dedicated to health and the provision of services of this nature to the community. 110 BOYS AND GIRLS, BORN WITH HARELIP AND/OR CLEFT PALATE, WERE OPERATED IN 167 SURGICAL PROCEDURES, IN GUADALAJARA. • OPERATION SMILE Faithful to its commitment to society, the JCF continued to provide its support to the Operation Smile Foundation during 2014, thanks to what 2 days were carried out in the capital city of Jalisco, of which the following results came out: 236 boys and girls were evaluated, born with harelip and/or cleft palate; 110 were operated in 167 surgical procedures. Plus, 99 postoperative revisions were made. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 MORE THAN 400 MP CHANNELED/ 79 AIDS 16 FOR MEDICATION/ 5 SURGERIES/12 PROSTHETICS/ 18 MEDICAL TESTS/ 2 FUNERARY EXPENSES/ 39 DIVERSE • INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT Throughout this year, dozens of people came to the JCF demanding help to care for several health needs, some of which were urgent. With satisfaction, we can say that, applying its own resources, the JCF answered punctually most of these demands, as can be seen in the following data: Out of 79 aids, 16 were for medication, 5 for surgeries, 12 for prosthetic devices, 18 for medical tests, 2 for funerary expenses and 39 for diverse dental, viatical, etc., channeling through all of these a total of $402,166.00 pesos. / 9 10 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 EDUCATION AREA T he development of the towns, in general, and of each person, in particular, is based on education, as human history testifies. Without education there is no possibility of progress. Aware of that, during 2014 the JCF continued to contribute in an important manner to the integral formation of children, youths, and adults. In 2014, we continued to grant aids to institutions dedicated to the teachinglearning process and carrying out diverse activities to stimulate learning and for human formation that compliment and enrich the school education. For adults, the human development and value formation programs and events were intensified. • ANNUAL CHILDREN’S AWARDS For the eleventh consecutive year, the JCF carried out this great event whose objective is to stimulate children towards a greater appreciation and dedication to study, with which they will not only be better prepared to move forward through the following stages of their formation, but we also contribute to mitigate the high level of school desertion in the secondary level. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • PREVENTIVE EDUCATION • VALUES EDUCATION In this year we carried out the Addiction Prevention Program, opening it to cover a broader teenage-juvenile problematic but, at the same time, focusing it on boys at risk so, in this way, we can obtain greater efficacy from the program, which changed its name to “Preventive Education Program”. In the four secondary schools in Tequila, focal groups were formed with kids that were detected to be at risk and who received 6 workshops aimed at combating bullying, alcoholism, lack of assertiveness, drug addiction, among others risks that prevented them from continuing with their studies. 490 youths-teenagers were treated per week in the workshops, apart from having provided them with 372 personal orientations, per week. This is the distinctive character or sign of the JCF. Indeed, we consider values education as important as the material welfare of people. With this vision, our human development programs are oriented to promoting the practice of positive values in all the sectors of the population and, this way, making true the mission of integrally improving the quality of life of people and families. That is why the JCF carried out multiple activities during 2014, such as: massive events, Anspac personal growth workshops, conferences, child “missions” and youth counseling workshops. AIDS WERE GRANTED TO INSTITUTIONS DEDICATED TO THE PROCESS OF 6 WORKSHOPS/ 490 YOUTHSTEENAGERS TREATED/ 372 ORIENTATIONS PER WEEK TEACHING-LEARNING AND STIMULI TO STUDYING AND HUMAN FORMATION. / 11 12 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 PRODUCTIVITY AREA O ne primordial task of the JCF has been and is, without a doubt, the encouragement and promotion of diverse actions that facilitate and contribute to the economical improvement of the region and, specifically, of the families. Given the high demand for decently-paid employment and jobs in the country, the JCF has been encouraging diverse projects aimed at said purpose, such as, among others, opening spaces for artisan micro-entrepreneurs and, above all, establishing important alliances with other instances that are added to the achievement of the same objective, especially the alliance with IBM de Mexico and the Tequila Route. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 THE PREVENTION MODEL DESIGNED ALONG IBM WILL BE THE GREAT MILESTONE IN JALISCO AND MEXICO FOR A MUNICIPALITY LIKE TEQUILA TO BE DEVELOPED AS A SMART CITY. • TEQUILA SMART CITY – IBM AND JCF The year 2014 marked a historic milestone in the work of the Jose Cuervo Foundation since, along with the Council for the Integral Development of Tequila (CODIT, in Spanish) and IBM de Mexico they anticipated the foundations for making Tequila a Smart City by 2020. The three bodies, forming a powerful strategic alliance, announced the development of a unique and custom-made program that will identify the priority requirements of the municipality of Tequila and will allow to lay the groundwork for a preventive model aimed towards becoming a smart city by 2020. “The prevention model designed along with IBM will be the great milestone in Jalisco and Mexico, for a municipality like Tequila to be developed as a Smart City, to improve the quality of life of its population and provide tourists an exceptional experience. Likewise, it will show that the highly complex approximations at the beginning, can yield results of incalculable qualitative and quantitative value touristically, in the vitality of an economy, the respect for the environment, transparency and development of a country”, indicated Héctor Fernández Rousselon, Corporate Director of the JB Group. / 13 14 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • TEQUILA ROUTE Since five years ago, the strategic alliance made up by the JCF, the Interamerican Development Bank (Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, in Spanish) and the Regulating Council of Tequila has remained on the rise to make the Tequila Route the motor that drives tourism in the agave corridor through the conjunction and strengthening of MSMEs associated to the tourist sector. With respect to 2014, the Tequila Route obtained achievements superior to those of previous years, among them: an economic spillover in the region superior to 550 million pesos, after receiving 945,000 visitors and a private inversion of more than 850 million pesos. In addition to the above, it should be noted that it obtained international projection establishing cooperative alliances with tourist agencies in Columbia and Honduras. 550 MP OF ECONOMICAL SPILLOVER 945 THOUSAND VISITORS 850 MP OF PRIVATE INVESTMENT JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 350 MEMBERS COOPERATIVE EL OLVODO/ 4 MP IN SOCIAL CAPITAL • EL OLVIDO COOPERATIVE The El Olvido Cooperative, created eleven years ago with contributions of the JCF and the SEDER, has become the tip of the development spear of the small communities of the Sierra. Originated by the JCF, thanks to its soft loans it benefits dozens of families in diverse productive projects. In 2014, the number of members ascended to 350 and its social capital ascended to 4 million pesos. / 15 16 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • ARTISAN PRODUCTION During 2014, the JCF continued providing advice and support to diverse regional artisans with the purpose of encouraging them towards their consolidation as self-sustaining MSMEs. The advice on packaging and brand design for the following products is noteworthy: agave jam, woven agave fiber, agave cookies and agave quiote crafts. This year, the participation of artisans from Tequila in commercial spaces, opened by the JCF for them, stands out: the Festival del Tequila 2014 (Tequila Festival), and the Bazar Navideño Oracle 2014 (Christmas Bazaar). JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 150 STUDENT FROM CECAT IN TWO YEARS • CECAT With the intention of providing micro-entrepreneurs with the necessary digital tools for the best commercialization of their products, the Centro de Capacitación Tecnológica de Tequila (Tequila’s Technical Training Center) has kept its doors open. Two years after its opening, this year it has 150 students who graduated from basic, intermediate and advanced computer courses. / 17 18 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 CULTURE AREA E ach year, the JCF works on this area in order to encourage and promote culture in all its manifestations, especially Mexican culture, linked in great measure to the traditions and symbols of Jalisco and Mexico, such as tequila, mariachi and charrería. With this work, the JCF is adding itself with all its potential –and with concrete actions and events– to the effort that Casa Cuervo has been doing to turn Tequila into a world-class cultural-touristic center. • X TEQUILA CULTURAL FESTIVAL During the days of the 4th, 5th and 6th of April of this year, the X Edition of the Tequila Cultural Festival took place, as a space created to promote the best of the artistic creation of Mexico and the world. It begun on Friday the 4th with the opera representation of Mozart’s the Magic Flute, with the Guadalajara Philharmonic Orchestra and the participation of world-class singers accompanied by the choir of the JCF. In the following days the musical presentations of Zofi Zaro and Fandango occurred, with a total capacity of 3 thousand people who enjoyed, in the Foro Cuervo, this grand international event, which as as a purpose to promote culture and the fine arts. MORE THAN 3 THOUSAND PEOPLE ENJOYED THE X TEQUILA CULTURAL FESTIVAL. • JOSE CUERVO FOUNDATION CHOIR • MUSIC SCHOOL With six years of trajectory and 35 members, the choir of the Jose Cuervo Foundation is today a reality that is ever more consolidated and promising. In this year 2014 it had diverse participations, being the most successful one, without a doubt, during the representation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute opera in the opening of the Tequila Cultural Festival 2014. In addition, it had several presentations in different localities such as Guadalajara and Zapopan and, of course, Tequila. In 2014, the JCF continued to offer the communities of Tequila and adjacent municipalities its Music School as a cultural space where youths and children can be professionally formed in the art and discipline of music to, later on, be projected in an even more professional manner in other instances and musical levels. At present, 248 students study music in its classrooms. • VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS In the massive events of human development such as the Family Forum, the Week of Youth and others, dedicated to youths and children, women, family and seniors, shows were incorporated that constitute a way of cultural promotion and diffusion: concerts, representation, theater plays, musicals, visual arts contests, etc. It is, without a doubt, a permanent effort with clear formative effects for the population. To each of these events we grant its space in their corresponding section. 20 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 7 HUMAN IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS VALUES AREA I t is an inalienable commitment of the JCF to promote the encouragement and practice of values that dignify the human being. Without this fundamental contribution to our communities, our labor would be cut short, incomplete. With the experience we’ve had, we are convinced that the wellbeing of people is equally or more important than their material well-fare. That is why, during 2014 we carried out diverse activities and events, oriented to all social sectors and people with the purpose of offering conductual knowledge and tools that would motivate them to value their dignity as persons, the integrity of their family and the need to provide values to society in order to build a social coexistence that is ever more healthy and favorable to their integral development. IN TEQUILA AND LA LAJA • ANNUAL PROGRAMS As each year, and with the purpose of promoting the practice of values, in 2014 we also continued to carry out the 7 programs of human development or self improvement, addressed to all social sectors both in Tequila and La Laja. In the space dedicated to each sector, the information of each particular program is broadened. IT IS AN INALIENABLE COMMITMENT OF THE JOSE CUERVO FOUNDATION TO PROMOTE THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND PRACTICE OF VALUES THAT DIGNIFY THE HUMAN BEING. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • MONTHLY CONFERENCES An optimal resource for the promotion of values is, without a doubt, the conference. Which is why some of our programs are based on periodic, monthly, conferences that we openly offer to parents, women and youths-teenagers. This modality, given the flexibility it offers, allows us to organize a consecutive thematic structure or else, should the need arise, develop a punctual and convenient subject for the community. / 21 22 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • MASSIVE EVENTS These events are characterized by their duration of three or more days, as well as for the balanced combination of humanistic, musical, artistic and festive contents with which they are developed. This way, participants not only enjoy and learn, but they also partake and participate, which creates a sense of solidarity and communion among the population. Such events have as an objective to give an honorable closure to the 5 main programs of human development. • WEEKLY WORKSHOPS Without vainglory we can affirm that the JCF promotes more than three thousand workshops of various kinds each year, as in fact it promoted during 2014: workshops for productivity, for the promotion of women dignity, against addictions, etc. It is worth noting that most of these workshops were carried out each week, especially the ANSPAC (the National Association in pro of Self Improvement) workshops for women. 24 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 COMMUNITY IMPACT BY SECTOR O ur Integral Model of Local Development (IMLD) guides the steps of the JCF and marks the path of its social work on behalf of the communities located in the vicinity of the companies of Casa Cuervo. By means of their application, the JCF seeks to positively influence not only in diverse areas of society (education, health…), but also to reach the different community sectors: children, youths, women, family and seniors, thus materializing its characteristic of integrality. The following pages account for the effects achieved in each of the following community sectors: • • • • • Family Sector Women Sector Youth Sector Children Sector Senior Sector JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 / 25 26 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 FAMILY SECTOR A ware of the national reality and of the several factors that attempt and provoque family disintegration, at the JCF we maintained, during 2014, our attention focus in the family, the basic cell of society, in whose bosom are forged, for good or for evil, the citizens of the future. The importance of safekeeping this fundamental social institution from disintegration is evident. That is why we continue to promote several actions, oriented to strengthening families. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • “KNOW TO GROW” PROGRAM, IN TEQUILA • “KNOW TO GROW” PROGRAM, IN LA LAJA The JCF offered parents, both in Tequila and in La Laja, the annual monthly conference cycle called “Know to Grow”. In Tequila 11 conferences were given with subjects such as rejection between parents and children, love manifested differently, etc. 5,100 persons were benefited from this program. Also in La Laja, a small community in the municipality of Zapotlanejo, replicating the program developed in Tequila, 11 conferences were given, benefiting 1,400 parents with them. / 27 28 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • X FAMILY FORUM These events are characterized by their duration of three or more days, as well as for the balanced combination of humanistic, musical, artistic and festive contents with which they are developed. This way, participants not only enjoy and learn, but they also partake and participate, which creates a sense of solidarity and communion among the population. Such events have as an objective to give an honorable closure to the 5 main programs of human development. THE THERAPISTS OF THE BATESON INSTITUTE, IN GUADALAJARA, TREATED A MONTHLY AVERAGE OF 110 FAMILIES. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • CETIF Through the Center for Comprehensive Family Therapy (CETIF, for its Spanish initials) hundreds of inhabitants, especially couples and marriages from Tequila and La Laja, were benefited from the magnificent labor developed by this center during the year. It is gratifying for the JCF to have created this institution that every day makes the purpose for which it was created possible: repair difficult and complex family problematics. In 2014, the therapists of the Bateson Institute in Guadalajara treated a monthly average of 110 families in nearly 2,000 hours of therapy and the same number of sessions. Specifically, 2,373 persons in Tequila and 252 persons in La Laja were treated. • CEINJURE-INTEGRAL CENTER OF REGIONAL JUSTICE Just like previous years, this penitentiary center continued to have the support of the JCF with the purpose of contributing to the labor of social reinsertion of interns. Specifically, in 2014, the aids consisted in 3 punctual conferences, requested by the Board for the inmates, as well as the donation of electronic devices and the coating of the dome, necessary for the better performance of the center. / 29 30 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 WOMEN SECTOR S ince its creation, the JCF has maintained its commitment to the advancement of women in its different life roles: as a mother, wife, educator, professional, worker, etc. Women, as it is known, make up a vital sector of and in society. That is why in the JCF we seek, through conference cycles, workshops and events, that each woman becomes aware of her great personal dignity and her important role as former of generations. 79 GROUPS BOTH IN TEQUILA AND LA LAJA 1,117 PARTNERS IN THE WEEKLY WORKSHOPS • ANSPAC PROGRAM With this program, created and structured for women, comprehensive improvement of the person is sought, based in the conviction that only those who continuously develop all of their human potential can be builders in their family and community of a new and better world. Their weekly workshop methodology makes possible the cascading formation from the board members, group coordinators and cheerleaders that teach the shop to their neighborhood group with topics of personal growth (self-esteem, personal appearance, emotional intelligence, etc.). In 2014, the number of groups both in Tequila and La Laja increased to 79, with a total of 1,117 members or participants in the weekly workshops. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 326 MOTHERS IN TEQUILA HAVE THE TIME AND OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS A PRODUCTIVE AND REMUNERATIVE JOB. • DAYCARE CENTERS • IX TEQUILA EXPO-WOMAN The efforts made by the JCF during the past years reached their full success in 2014, upon realization of the eighth Daycare Center, located in the El Salvador community, in the Sierra of Tequila. There are then 8 Daycare Centers programmed, which are already fully operating in the municipality of Tequila, to which the JCF continues to provide economic and advisory support for their excellent operation. This way, 326 mothers in Tequila have the time and opportunity to access a productive and remunerative job. The natural evolution of societies imposes, sometimes, new strategies and ways into chores. In 2014, facing the advancement of medical services in the city of Tequila, the JCF imprinted a new modality into its traditional annual event of the Tequila ExpoWoman. A total of 10 stands were set up with articles of interest to women, in the Jose Cuervo forum, which housed more than 1,500 women, who received a welcome cocktail, a conference given by Adriana Corona under the subject “How to be a complete woman?”, and a music concert with the great mexican singer Dina Buendía. • GUIDE MOMS Much work was carried out during the year by the Mamás Guías (Guide Moms), whose number increased both in Tequila and in La Laja. Granting a valuable part of their time free of charge, they make it possible for the more than 320 boys and girls of the Cuervo Kids Club (see its section) to delve each month in a value such as friendship, respect, responsibility, honesty, etc., through several dynamics such as social missions and games. / 31 32 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 YOUTH SECTOR B eing the youths-teenagers sector the bearer of the future of the country, it worries, but even more so, it occupies the JCF with their healthy development. We are acutely aware that their present does not cease to be complex and even threatened by destructive factors, that come both from technology and deflective groups. Due to the above, our programs and initiatives towards this sector seek to open the vast horizons of their potentials to youths-teenagers, and to strengthen in them the habits of a healthy behavior by offering them tools of self improvement, leadership and life project. A HIGHLY FORMATIVE SPACE FOR THE MORE THAN 5,000 YOUTHS THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE DIVERSE ACTIVITIES. • X YOUTH WEEK Carried out during the days from the 21st to the 24th of October, this great traditional event for youths of 16-28 years of age culminated with great success and impact in its tenth edition with directed values conferences, testimonials of life that are an example in the social, academic or sports areas, as well as shows and concerts. The JCF spared no efforts to offer a highly formative space for the more than 5,000 attendees who participated in the diverse activities, with the following program: Testimonial of Dr. José Villela Vizcaya: “A life lesson before adversity”; Conference by Fernando Córdova with the subject of “Professional joy”; Conference by the P. Alejandro Ortega Trillo with the subject of “Vices and virtues”. As for shows, Mariana Bo with violin performance, Niko hypnotist, “Zero X cent” theater play, a journey through the mirror, and the Intercollegiate Dance Competition. A special note should be made for the workshops and the presence of car accident simulators as part of the preventive campaign lead by the JCF with the youths. 4 DAYS/ 5 THOUSAND YOUTHS TEENAGERS/ CONFERENCES/ TESTIMONIALS/ SHOWS 34 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 21 NARRATORS • CONGRESCUELAS They consist of mobile mini-congresses, carried out in secondary and high school campuses, with duration of one day, whose objective is to offer youths an opportunity to reflect, debate and broadly share ideas and subjects that are of interest to them. During May of this year of 2014, we carried out 7 Congrescuelas in 6 secondary and 2 high schools in Tequila. Upon express request of the principals of the schools, we aligned the Congrescuelas to a requirement of vital importance in these stages of formation: reading and reading comprehension. Thus, and with prior notice, 21 narrators of the 8 campuses concurred, who exposed in a very professional and experiential way the contents of their readings. It was a fascinating experience for all of the schoolchildren and for the principals and teachers. 3,290 youths lived the congress brought to their school. The Congrescuelas closed with a flourish with the conference “You are the magic” about life projects, delivered by a subject specialist. CONCURRED, WHO EXPOSED, VERY PROFESSIONALLY, THE CONTENTS OF THEIR READINGS. JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 • PROGRAM: “I AM PEPE EXCURSIONIST” This new program has as an objective to ensure that teenagers acquire creative experiences with human, social and ecological sense, with progressive self-knowledge and complementary of the family and school, in a responsible fashion. Mainly, youths of focal groups (youths at risk) of all the secondary schools in Tequila were invited, and weekly activities were made on Saturdays from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Unidad Deportiva 24 de Enero, closing, every two months, with an excursion to the hill of Tequila. The results have been very encouraging: the youths that participate in the project present immediate behavior changes, which is reflected in their relationship with their classmates and teachers. Currently, 120 youths looked after every Saturday, and the project grows every week with applications from youths-teenagers that wish to enter the program. 120 YOUTHSTEENAGERS/ LOOKED AFTER EVERY SATURDAY FOR TWO MONTHS / 35 36 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 CHILDREN SECTOR C hildhood being a key stage in the development and formation of every person, the JCF intensified, during 2014, its efforts for children, not only by working for the integrity of their families, but also working closely with schools and parents, involving them in the integral and harmonious development of their boys and girls. Specifically, the program Club Infantil Cuervo (CLIC) (Cuervo Kids Club) had an important expansion both in Tequila and La Laja, having as a target to reach as soon as possible all the boys and girls of the mentioned communities. THE CUERVO KIDS CLUB INCREASED THE NUMBER OF ITS MEMBERS TO 345, ADDING UP TEQUILA AND LA LAJA. • CUERVO KIDS CLUB (CLIC)–TEQUILA With a duration of six years, this program has as a specific objective the values education for boys and girls. In the present year, the club had a notable increase reaching a record number of 350 children that are currently part of it. Likewise, the achievement of having almost duplicated the number of Guide Moms ought to be highlighted, (voluntary coordinators of the club’s activities), upon going from 24 to 42. • CUERVO KIDS CLUB (CLIC)-LA LAJA • XI ANNUAL CHILDREN’S AWARDS Meanwhile, the CLIC in La Laja managed to increase the number of its members by going from 145 to 250, while the number of Guide Moms came up to 28, seven more than last year. Just like in Tequila, we carried out the traditional “missions”, the weekly workshops and several complementary activities. With the purpose of motivating boys and girls towards love and full dedication to studying, the JCF conducted, for the eleventh consecutive year, this great event for boys and girls in which it recognized and awarded the best school grades of all primary schools of the Municipality of Tequila, La Laja and the Sierra. Those who were celebrated received a personalized award, accompanied by a gift backpack and enjoyed a magic show. 1,184 were awarded in Tequila, 460 in La Laja, and 232 in the Sierra. 1,184 AWARDS IN TEQUILA 460 AWARDS IN LA LAJA 232 AWARDS IN THE SIERRA 38 / JOSE CUERVO FUNDATION / ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2014 SENIOR SECTOR T o acknowledge, see to and take care of our seniors must be a permanent attitude of every society. Aware of it, the JCF has been attentive since its creation to look for this social sector that deserves, additionally, all of our respect and gratitude. Such are the criteria that have guided the several initiatives that the JCF has undertaken in favor of this sector.
