Explore the history of the field and the socio-political context of its formation. Examine the structure, functions, and processes of the executive branch agencies of national, state, and local governments, and of the non-profit sector. Analyze the size and scope of the non-profit sector, and explore the similarities and differences between the non-profit and public sectors. Survey organizational and management practices, and apply efficiency and accountability concepts to public and non-profit administration. Learn to effectively write, analyze, and evaluate policies and programs. Develop communication skills, including the effective use of technology. Develop the ability to manage organizational processes ethically and responsibly. Examine public budgeting and finance, including performance-laden budget reforms, governmental accounting, debt management, and financial reporting.
